Discussion Mikasa and Levi's future role

I'm a little dissapointed with this 2 being injured. It was kind of predictable that levi was going to be totally o partially handicapped, because he's an estatic character, he's not going to evolve, he did in his past. But mikasa is a dynamic character and a co-protagonist. I always thought her natural evolution was going to be get emotionally emancipated from eren and finding his own identity and sense of self, but still loving eren, all this through her amazing talent as a soldier. I thought she was going to be the new Levi (with levi as a mentor) but now she's very injured and we don't know if she will recover. So what will happen?

This makes me sad too

But my best guess in this happening, is that something great is coming near. Perhaps they will be facing a greater adversary that the author did not want to show Mikasa or Levi losing to, or defeating so easily. I feel like Hajime Isayama did this because the next enemy will have to be defeated without two using it's two strongest warriors. Which would make for a more desperate situation for humanity, seeing as how Eren has gained what seems to be the strongest power of all at the moment.
Perhaps Mikasa will gain development as you said, only she will learn her own self identity from being separated from him.(assuming she can't really follow him around and protect him the same as before)
My biggest concern at this point is will they both ever be able to fight at the same level as before after these injuries? I would cry if I found out Levi won't be as badass as he was before, but I doubt Isayama will do that to his fans...

I agree, Mikasa more so than any other character desperately needs some character development. The most recent chapter didn't deviate from her current role in anyway despite her being injured. I'm hoping Isayama has plans for her.
