Never though I'd see Gildarts as overrated. That makes no sense but whatever.

From the FT guys it's Gray 100%, from the Girls it's Erza 100%. The difference between those two is that Erza is a top tier but overuses PoF. Gray is not a top tier but people act like he is.

Non-FT members it's Brandish.

Wrong....
Almost all of the enemy characters in Alvarez had a lot of hype around them

They also don't need feats ???!!!!
In the same way!!!!!
FT enemies =\= FT member.

Villains needs feats to not be considered jokes. Gildarts has better hype than he has feats and yet he’s still considered the strongest.

Natsu takes out dragons and ft members still think of Gildarts of when they think of the strongest ft member.

To be honest, I think this panel shows that members think Natsu is stronger than em. I could be wrong though.

You literally compared Natsu vs Bluenote which happened a year and a half after Tenrou to Gildarts vs Bluenote and tried to use that to downplay Gildarts. Then used that to justify Gildarts not being able to solo the GOI (which he could 100%).

Looking back at it, this is a good thing though. If he was around all the time, Phantom Lord would've been one chapter, BoFT wouldn't have happened. GMG and Tartaros wouldn't have been more than a couple chapters.

Him being there would've made most arc either not happen or be very quick.

This means that Gildarts in Tenroujima was weak
Weaker than base Natsu in Alvarez....good

My comparison is normal
Gildarts is a middle-aged man....He's supposed to be stronger in Tenroujima than base Natsu in Alvarez....

So? People get stronger over time-skips. Proves literally nothing. As tenrou Gildarts made Natsu cry just from releasing his MP.

No he isn't. That makes no sense.

You're trying too hard to downplay Gildarts to boost God Serena but what you're saying makes no sense.

I guess since people want to exaggerate the statements made about God Serena, all 5 Dragon Gods are above Acnologia.

I already have. You are comparing 2 characters 1 and a half year apart. Compare both of the same arc. That's how it works.

Just calm down..
I am. Don't worry :hip

The Five Dragon is stronger than him, I don't care...xd
Cool and Gildarts is still stronger than God Serena

This means that Gildarts in Tenroujima was weak
How did you come to this conclusion? :ohaielmo

I understand your logic man, and it makes no sense that Gildarts had such a big powerup in an year, after he's in his late 30s or early 40s. Logically, this has to mean that Gildarts in Alverez arc is around the same power level as Gildarts in Tenrou arc.

BUT
You forget that it's Hiro Mashima that's writing the manga. Shit doesn't make sense. Gildarts is the strongest (apart from DF Natsu of course) just for the basic reason that he's the ace of FT.
Powerscaling makes zero sense in FT, if Mashima wants characters to be relative to each other just to preserve some portrayals, he will make it happen, irrespective of whether it makes sense or not. There are several examples of this throughout the series, I can list them if you'd like.

You do know people in their early 40's can still train right?

I mean, Gildarts (tenrou) is weaker than Alvarez Natsu
According to the battle against blounote
That's it
I'm not saying that Gildarts is weak

Yea, and? You've already reach your peak by that age, it only goes downhill from there.

If you disagree with above statement, lets assume, for the sake of argument, that this logic doesn't apply to FT world.
Let's assume Gildarts started being a mage by around 18-20 years (if it's earlier, it just emphasize by point more). He's around 38-45 by Tenrou. Arc. This means, him training for 20+ years resulted in him being at a level which can mid diff Bluenote and Jura tiers.

Now, suddenly in 1 year training, he jumped up several tiers? I find that hard to believe logically. I just accept it, because it's the reality in FT. Relevant characters, whether they train or not, and/or whether their growth makes sense or not, WILL get buffed enough to be relative to other characters. Just because Mashima wants to keep his character portrayals.
Gildarts is just one example of this. there are quite a few more like this in FT

Let me make it crystal clear. I believe Gildarts is still the strongest FT member, bar when Natsu gets DF. I have zero doubt in my mind about it.
All I'm saying it it doesn't make logical sense to me. It's the way it is, because Mashima desires so.

You're using real world logic on this. We have people who live into their hundreds and still dominate fight.

What's the problem with that? You need to train to get stronger.

Peak age doesn't matter in FT lol.

I know it's a very real possibility, which is why I gave you my second argument as well.

Gildarts reached Blutenote/Jura + tier in 20 years, but suddenly reached Serena + tier in 1 year? This jump doesn't make sense to me, but lots of things don't make sense lol. So, whatever. I'm just saying it's illogical writing just for the sake of preserving portrayals.

Logically - Gildarts should be irrelevant now, considering the jump Natsu made, if he was Bluetnote + in Tenrou (due to reason listed above); Mira should be irrelevant since she's 3+ years behind Erza; Jellol (and Ultear as well) should be several tiers above any relevant characters since they're 7 years ahead. etc. But none of these are the case because Mashima doesn't write logically. That's all

What does Serena+ tier even mean? Gildarts had a little fight with Bluenote and then ended things quickly once he got his magic back. He was always a tier above Jura and Bluenote.

We don't know how strong GS was since we know Wizard Saint was a political position. For all we know, he could've been Bluenote tier too.

That's just the way things are.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Actually, we know God Serena went to Alvarez specifically to get stronger.

Nah, as @aymen24 pointed out with panels, Gildarts couldn't just finish off Bluenote as he pleased. They were fighting off screen for quite a while, it was a drawn out fight until Azuma did what he did. In the end, Bluenote used his strongest attack, Gildarts countered it, and Gildarts used his 2nd strongest attack (strongest attack shown at the time) on Bluenote to finish him off. It was, by no means, a stomp. It would've been a mid diff, which got turned into an extreme diff by Azuma.

We know that all the GOI are several tiers above x791 Jura (we don't know where x792 Jura stands), from GMG arc. And Serena is several tiers above the 2nd strongest GOI. God Serena >>> Hyperion >>> Bluenote/Jura

God Serena went to Alverez because the empire's aim coincided with his aim, which was Acnologia.

I mean, I agree that's the way things are. After all Mashima is writing. Like I said before, I don't even contest the power levels of the relevant characters, I'm just saying it makes no sense logically
