More importantly, though, I'm kind of confused as to how this M0 path he's on is going to lead to a gold plate at the end. Was it stated somewhere that you could directly upgrade your M0 plate to a gold plate?

Right after the first exam, when Kuzumi was unsure about uprgading his plate: Chapter 27, page 5 (It has been bugging me, since I knew that I read that you can upgrade directle to whatever level you qualify for). It's worded kind of strangely there, though.

As for Kuzumi and magic? 'Pure' magic can wait until the very end of the series, though the black plate will be good for him for now. It goes in line with everything he has at his disposal right now: M0 and Lucy. Like those two, the Black Plate are truly different from what other students utilize. As such, they all are extremely powerful when applied correctly. Also, the three are similar in that they cannot be used recklessly, and that the true nature of them cannot be revealed. If they were known, Kuzumi would not be able to survive for long, since one of his key skills is bluffing. Well, in the case of M0 and the Black Plate, he would be in deeper trouble, as he shouldn't have those things in the first place!

Truthfully, I'd like to see Kuzumi become 'ultimate' in another fashion. The principal did say functions could be added to the plate, inferring that there may be more than one....

Both M0, and the Black plate, are considered secrets of the school. The question is; secrets for what? There is some significance in the Black Plate and the outside world. There is a reason why no one knows of the M0 Plate except for a privileged few.

As for the black plate upgrade, I believe it's normal function is to allow our card holders to be able to cast their magic outside the magic zones, with some limitation dependent on the plate's level. This would be true only for normal plates, a black plate embedded in a M0 plate would be a totally different beast. Since M0 is not magic, being able to copy magic being used nearby would be logical, as explained in the manga.

....Of course, it would really get interesting if M0 and the black plate had a totally different reaction with each other, heh.

That is a very good point. It is funny, in my view, that he was blessed with a great power to change magic into reality, but has little capacity at containing magic.

Kuzumi will almost definitely have a larger magical body the next time he takes the test.... I wonder how that will change things. It would be amusing that there is some trick to the test that makes it easier if you have a smaller body.

I just hope that the 10 trials/levels wont take too long, Kuzumi can't just keep on skipping school and his duties for the student council. Can't wait to see Kuzumi in action with real magic

I would hope that these recent events don't mean a training arc so Kuzumi can enlarge his magical body. I have had no problem with the Magical Exams and this recent trial because they're fresh and new, but if there is a training arc coming up, I seriously hope it isn't boring.

Yeah i really dont think we will see him going through too many levels this arc. Remember the old man training session where there was a lot more to learn but they stopped? I think the mangaka might go with gradual "power up" where kuzumi pass a couple of levels to get the black card and then later (maybe they advance a year) he goes back to gain more levels. Or maybe the crazy ex-principle will just grant all 10 levels to kuzumi since it is all up to him anyway

Having thought on this, the easiest way I see to resolve this test quickly would be for him to get something from the drug-makers club which would give him a temporary boost in raw magical power.

It's also my first time posting in this neck of the woods!

I never really liked Mx0 that much until these last couple of chapters.
This test definitely is making things much more interesting...

Personally I don't think Taiga will use Mx0 to scale the wall in any way. The way he was looking at the wall, I feel that he will try to think of a way to climb the statue using only his wits and physical ability.

You guys ever read Air Gear? That Fats Bucca dude has that wall-ride technique that lets him climb up vertical surfaces while spinning. I dun know how feasible that for this manga, but who knows?

wonder if he will upgrade his plate after he starts to climb the black magic levels? Like I understand that he is using his MO to currently build points to eventually turn into a Gold Plate, and I know its constantly brought up in the manga, but how is he supposed to jump from M0 (the absolute lowest of the cards) to Gold in one shot? And furthermore, didnt Aika say something like bringing someone back requires even greater power than Gold?

Also, didnt the spirit principle say something about his power will undobtedly grow "exponentially"? How can that even happen with an MO card?

I'm still hoping he will eventually upgrade, maybe after the third exams? and that the black magic MO thing is more than it seems.

But he prolly wont hit all 10 levels off the bat

I'm going to guess that by 'exceptional third year student', he means students who managed to get a gold plate. That would mean that the black M0 plating would be the next power up for a student who has obtained a gold plate, making it "greater than a gold plate".

Asked myself too if we're going to a training arc but it isn't always boring. Remember that training arc with nigasaki - that was fun imo

Mm. Remember that the principal said that Kuzumi would have to be told about the Black Plate "eventually". To me, that suggests that the students who are told about the BP and the "secret" are the ones who possess a Gold Plate, and because the number of people who know about the BP is greater than the people who know about Kuzumi being a fake, when he got to his third year he would have had to have been initiated into the secret anyway.

As I recall, Hiiragi-sensei called nigasaki "sensei". I wouldn't be surprised if he was a teacher during the Ex-Principle's time alive. I would be nice to bring him back, if only for him to beat Kuzumi up to get him stronger.

Another thing that I think i should mention is, Kuzumi cant physically interact with the MO field, if you remember during his training with Nigasak-sensei, he was able to pass his hand through it. Furthermore, Even if he can make holes to climb up with the main thing he's trying to do is -avoid- using the MO the more points he uses up the further away he is from having enough to get a gold plate to help Hiiragi-chan get her wish...which is why he kept the MO to begin with.

Furthermore, passing the first level alone will get him the Black plate, its just the higher level he passes the more the storage capacity of the black plate will be. So simply passing lvl 1 will be enough for him to be able to use other magic to assist with the other levels.

I dunno how he'll travesse that wall but I'm sure he's gonna need some help from friends.

Yes but they saw a great skill of the ex-principal

and with other tests/trials coming, students will motivate kuzumi more to do what "he can do"

At least when word of Kuzumi's "acts" gets to the Vice Principle, it will cast even more doubt on him having moe. If Hiiragi questioned the Principle's act to send Kuzumi of to try and get a black plate, I doubt that idea will come to the Vice's mind, so this may help him keep his cover even more.
