I've been working on this for some while now...(it shouldn't have taken as long as it has but I'm lazy as shit) and I just wanted to share it with you guys...
tobi has been my favorite character design besides asuma and jiraiya (kakashi is a given too) and it's mostly due to his mask. I love that mask and ever since I saw it I wanted to make one (now I gotta make a new one for the chp 400 O.G. mask)...I'm not into cosplay (not that there's anything wrong with it) but I'm kind of an artsy guy so I got the materials and got to work. This is what I have so far, and I think I botched the paint job a bit (and I'm too lazy to redo it) but so far I think it's looking really good...I tried to make it as 1:1 with the manga as possible and I think I'm almost 99% dead on...I have very little left to do, (finishing touches to make it look really legit) but as far as the painting goes, I can either stop here, or add in some yellow to brighten it up and do some techniques to give it some subtle colors...these photos don't do it justice, so I'll take some hi res ones later...but let me know what you guys think...
and this is for comparison...here is the mask with a flat coat of orange and nothing else, prior to the painting seen in the pics above and below:
For me, the journey to completion is worth more than the mask itself, so (and I'm not sure if this is allowed) if anyone is really interested, I'm willing to part with the mask... for the right price, of course. And if there's enough interest I'll make a mold and replicas, so let me know.
edit: for people who like to know the details, the mask is made of a combination of plaster and this paper mache type stuff (called celluclay I think). The plaster alone was kinda strong, like a cast you put on a broken limb but not as thick, but the celluclay really made it sturdy...I doubt it will break...the paint is airbrushed on. I haven't put the head band on yet since I might not be done painting, but I plan to attach a stretchy band type headband and then cover the inside of the mask with some felt or something soft.
