It is indeed a useful site for keeping track and organizing. I finally got a chance to update mine. *phew* Now that I have school, I had to reorganize my reading list. I'm still reading the ones I'm caught up with, but I had to put on hold the ones I'm not up to date with.

My anime watching list looks sad, ha ha. I don't have time to watch a lot.

I updated both of my lists a couple of days ago:

Manga
Anime

I'm happy to see that my anime list has increased; but it was a bit saddening to see how short my manga list has gotten, since the only manga I’m currently reading is Bleach. Hopefully my manga list gets a bit bigger soon.

Links are in my sig :amuse I keep my lists as updated as possible :) But I realise I need to start on my "plan to read/watch" lists as they are getting horribly long... ><

I love MAL though, it's a great resource for information on anime/manga such as seiyuu and staff and whatnot :)

I updated my anime list yesterday :):

Anime

and as I was reading it I noticed I really need to put aside some time so that I can finally finish watching Death Note, although I would probably have to start watching it since the very beginning since I’m beginning to forget various things about DN.

As for my manga list…Bleach is the only manga I’m reading atm, and I still need to catch up with some chapters since I stopped reading it some weeks ago.

Here are questions to hopefully spark some discussion since you can rate series on MAL:

  1. What are your standards when giving ratings?
  2. What does a series need in order to deserve a 10 from you?

My answers:
1.) Right now my ratings are pretty disorganized since I give them based on either enjoyment or objective quality. It's mostly based on how much fun I have reading a series. I'm planning on revamping everything so it would be based on quality instead.

I also don't rate a series until its 50th chapter. XD

2.) I try to give as little 10s as possible. A 10 is something that captivates me and is a series that I won't forget in ten or twenty years. Of course this is based on subjectivity so after the "renovation", there will be no 10s. None of the manga I've read so far is deserving of a perfect score. (Even the series I'm a huge fan of!)

Yay for this thread :amuse
My Anime List

Maybe I should put it in my signature like saladesu or something.
Unfortunately, I watch more than I read so I didn't make a manga list, lol.

To put it short. My standards aren't really high, as long as the anime makes an emotional impact on me, a good one..whether it is a sad or happy and manage to does it right, I'll give it a high score. I judge them by the direction of the anime and how everything is directed.

Of course, having high quality animation will be a plus! :tem

I'm trying to be a little objective at least, but that won't ever work. Probably ppl will notice a lot of 10's (5), but I couldn't rate them lower really (Vagabond, Chobits, Planetes, Vinland Saga, Kokou no Hito). I feel a little reassured in that by the fact that most of these (exept for Chobits afaik) are also award-winning series.
In anime lists it's Space Battleship Yamato as a groundbreaking series and Ghost in the Shell getting the 10's.

Overall I preferr the Baka-Update list system a little. I found it easier to manage them and it was possible to give x,5 ratings, a possibility I really miss. I'm really rating a lot of ,5's to make sure of slight differences between manga.
However, the profile/friends/comparisons and especially favorite list features of MAL make it better to me.

My Manga List

My Anime List

My lists are pretty up to date, though I have read a ton of weird/obscure manga that aren't in MAL's database.

My scores may seem a little high, but they are justified. Even most of the manga I dropped weren't total crap.

I have a list on MAL but it is far from complete. I find it hard to keep track there for some reason.

I have a list on Mangaupdates. Only my reading list I still have to add the complete list and plan to read.

I with MAL and MU could be integrated, because there are various things about the two systems that I really like such that I can't just use one. For example, MAL has the character pages and includes anime, MU has a release tracker that's really useful.

When it comes to rating series, I'm not as strict about giving out 10s. If I really, really enjoyed a series, it gets a 10 from me. I've given this to series like FMA and OP, both of which are my favourite ever. My rating hardly goes below 7 or 8 though - I think I'm really lenient :neutral Unless something really bored me to tears or was pointless, I never give anything below a 7.

Same with Matt, I've also read a number of manga (mostly one-shots that were never scanlated) that aren't listed on MAL. I'm pretty OCD about updating MAL after finishing a chapter (or after a volume or two, if I'm catching up with a manga), and I'll even update from my phone if there's internet (since I often read manga on my phone). So my list is almost always updated except for the un-listed manga as mentioned ^^

EDIT: Oh yeah, I might as well link to my lists here. In case I some day take it out of my sig for whatever reason or something weird like that. Feel free to friend me on MAL - I'm a sad person who only seems to have other MH mods as friends on MAL save for a few :p

I switched to MU since the ability to track new releases outweighs the benefits of MAL. I agree with Sally, I wish MU had all the features she mentioned. But MU has some really good features too. I have my reading list in order of latest release so that MU alerts me to unread chapters. That's not visible in public lists but shows up when I view. You can also make customized lists, something I will do eventually.

I enjoyed reading everyone's answers. :)

I also want an integration of MAL and MU since they both have good features. It's probably because I'm still new to MU, but I find MAL easier to navigate. It has an anime list so it's nice to keep track of everything I read and watch. MU on the other hand keeps track of releases and Edited Manga groups so finding a chapter/series is easier. (Especially for alternative manga that are hard to find in online readers.)

For now I'm happy with using both to organize what I'm reading.

here's my Anime MAL list (as my Manga MAL list consists of: Claymore, lol):

http://myanimelist.net/animelist/HegemonKhan

I use a very simple rating system, as doing a more detailed one is too hard for me to decide/rate upon:

10 = good/excellent/great

5 = mediocre/decent/average/"so so"/watchable

1 = UGHN! YUCK! WASTE OF TIME (in terms of the story/plot/action/whatever, though fanservice is never a waste of time, lol)!

So I did finally my own Mangalist. It took me some time to do it. I haven’t read that many Manga but I think I have done well for myself. I haven’t added the different specials for the Manga I read and I haven’t added the One Shots I have read. If I would have done it than the list would have been too long and too vast. I'm pretty sure I have forgotten to add around 20+ Manga I have read because I don’t remember the names anymore. They were short stories I read in one or two evenings. The Animelist is still incomplete or better said I haven’t started to add the Animes I have seen.

So here it is:
http://myanimelist.net/mangalist/Josl

I actually did it because I need some Manga advice. I need a bigger “to read list” and wanted to ask those in the forum who have read a Manga/s who I might like but still didn’t read. For that purpose I gave them a rank so it is visibly which Mangas I liked, tough I tried to stay as objective as I could and rank in the appropriate range and genre how I see it. For example To Love Ru isn’t that great of a Manga but it is a damn good Harem Manga so I gave it a 7 and gave an 8 to darkness because it is much more perverted.

In general i read pretty much everything but my preference is like this:
action/supernatural>comedy>sports=slice of life>romance
and
Shonen=Seinen=Manhwa>Shoujo & Josei

So like I said recommendations are welcome.

My Animelist is linked in my sig.

I love this site.It lacks some manga(little one-shots ans such),but it has nearly everything.
I have this habit of trying to catch up with several series at the same time,so i tend to forget at which chapter i put it on-hold.>__>

When it comes to rankings I'm both kind and strict. I've given entire 15 10/10 (One Piece, Bakuman, Toriko, Hunter x Hunter etc.). But at the same time some series are ranked pretty low (such as Blazer Drive). One-shots are ranked under "tags".
