Its just the translations are variant.
3. Is most likely Joz or Jaws
4. Dracule
6. Bon Clay
Ra, ri, ru , re, ro katakana usually give L sounds.
Zu sounds usually are S sounds when translated to Japanese etc.
All open for interpretation.

When it comes to Going Merry, in japanese it's actually called "Going Merry-go" (or Gōingu Merī-gō romanized to be more precise), because the "gō" is more like a suffix than part of the name. The Thousand Sunny is called Sauzando Sanī-gō, also with the gō suffix. I'm not sure if all ship names end with that in japanese, but in One Piece they all pretty much do (Ōro Jakuson-gō, Reddo Fōsu-gō, etc.). Evidently, Viz wasn't aware of this when they translated it to Merry Go.

These would be my choices as well, except I say Bon Clay instead of Bon Kurei and also Joz instead of Jozu.

I'm changing my mind.... from Jozu into Joz, and the same for bon-chan

I pretty much agree with the translations here. And as a side note, do not call Luffy as Rufy for God's sake.

4. Dracule
The best choice would be around "Juraquille" rather than "Dracule", as his name seems to actually be a junction of Dracule and Jules (or something like that).

Re: "Bon Clay"

I have a solution for "Mr. 2" here: call him Bentham!!

After all, it's his real name, not his "alias" that the Baroque Works follows; Number and (males) then Holiday (females), especially since "Bon Kurai" is the holiday version for his name. It's not his name, since he is both Male and Female in the Baroque Works class; making him have both nicknames.

Mr. 2 is his codename as a male.
"Bon Kurei" is merely the female equivalent of a holiday in Japan. Just like how Oda did it with all the other females in the Baroque Works structure; Ms. Merry Christmas, Ms. Goldenweek, Ms. Double Finger, etc.

So, if you want to be more "accurate" of this guy, then just refer to him by his name, not his codename...

My Writing Experience:
I love keeping my font consistent, and implying an organized, coherent order to anything I do. Whether it is a small comment, or an enormous thesis on something-- I will always do it with my original style.

Rules to Debate:
  1. Avoid the use of the following adverbs: always and never.
  2. Avoid the saying "you are wrong," and substitute something of equal value; "your idea holds error."
  3. Do not present an opinion as a fact; make this a fiction, please!
  4. Always, if applicable, cite the source you are discussing-- even if you don't need to!
  5. Never oppose truths, albeit they happen to be true!
  6. Remain calm and composed; fighting will only ruin what debate may exist!
  7. Attack only the idea, and never the person that presents that idea.
  8. Lastly, have fun and keep it passionate-- remember: always use concise grammar and punctuation if you want to get that point of yours across, better!
Personal:
  1. I don't reveal anything concerning myself; I'm findable!!
  2. I don't discuss my personal life; I'm shy.
  3. I don't expect, or wish, for yours either!!
  4. Don't make me mad; I'm caustic!
  5. Anime/ Manga isn't my life; it's just a hobby! Don't expect me to always be right; I'm a human being!
Thank you for taking the time to read this, now: obey it when you address me..!!

P.S. I do love the Liger Zero, especially the "X" model!!

The title of the thread seems so forcing. :( Different countries, different translations, so you won't be able to bring every member to use a definite name. But I like how Jinbei is used.

Can anyone tell me about Magellans name?

In Japanese they always sound like they say Mazellan, but I saw the name comes from some one based in history who wouldn't have been Japanese, how is his name really pronounced?

Due to this trivia:
His name resembles the name of a famous Portuguese maritime explorer Ferdinand Magellan who was shot in the foot with a poisonous arrow, which ultimately led to his death.
Magellan would probably be the best, as that's were Oda got his idea for the name.

Japanese Name: マゼラン
Romanized Name: Mazeran
English Name: Magellan

i would be more inclined to say Dracule since Oda seems to want him to resemble Dracula, that was my look on it really...

it is interesting to see how we try to kill the time until the next chapter comes out. i wonder what kind of new threads will be started in the next 3 or 4 weeks. but it is kinda boring to discuss everything to death.

personally i dont care if its Jimbei, Jinbei, Jimbey, Jinbey or whatever... as long as i know who you mean.

the way it's pronounce in the anime, i believe they pronounce his name as Jim-Bay so the correct way of spelling it would be Jimbei

WTF, Nobody mentioned the main protagonist ... :blink
Luffy, Rufy, Ruffy ...
I think neither is wrong because the spelling is only altered to sound the same in Japanese and English. And I heard that in french (waiting for Lord Rayleigh to confirm it) Ussop is Pipo, Sanji is Sandy and Zoro is zolo. wtf

While indeed Luffy, Ruffy, Rufi, Rufy etc are all used, the correct one is Luffy. The It's how Oda himself spells it, so even if all other spellings might be accepted in different places (Ruffy is used in Swedish volumes), the one which is officially right is Luffy and the others are wrong.

With that said, I don't really bother if people call Usopp "Lysopp" as I think he's called in German on the forums, or Luffy "Ruffy", etc. In the translations I like to see that they use the official names where possible, of course, but even the official volumes in a lot of languages have altered some of the names pretty seriously, so it's natural that people are gonna spell the names differently.

(although I probably wouldn't have any idea who was talked about if someone kept writing Pipo... :sweat)

In french, Ussop is indeed Pipo. It comes from " pipeau " which is some kind of flute. Playing pipeau is a french metaphor of lying. So we can say " C'est du pipeau " instead of " C'est un mensonge " to say " This is a lie ".

Also, Sanji is indeed Sandy. However, Zoro is not Zolo but Zorro.
