Hi again...it's THE period of the week. Many thanx to Mangastream for the high quality and high speed work. I just hope that my reviews could mirror their speed and quality.
It's crazy action this week...but let's take it piece by piece...
It was not much of a prediction, but it was obvious that this weeks chapter will begin explaining Izanagi a forbidden jutsu of the Uchiha. The forbidden nature was clear, because many of us noticed that after each use of Izanagi on of the eyes on Danzou's sharingarm closes. So a regular Uchiha could render himself half-blind, or completely blind if he or she were a reckless one.
It seems like Izanagi manipulates reality somehow. Madara starts explaining that the injuries or fatality even can be turned into a dream, or object, stuff(probably in a dream or genjutsu) can be turned into reality. The exact definition is this...
Impressive panel. Kishi really knows how to make Danzou look menacing. The face expression, the abilities he has turned him from an old fart with disabilities into someone who can do the ultimate illusion(which I thought it was Mugen Tsukiyomi, but it seems everything is ultimate) and is a menace for Kyuubi itself.
It seems like Izanagi manipulates reality, but this raises many questions. Reality as Itachi defined it is something that one perceives for his/her own point of view. It was questioned then if it is true reality or not, but the definition is still okay. This time there are more people around, so there are many shared points of view. So their reality is what they are perceiving with their senses. The 5 basic senses(smell, touch, vision, hearing, tasting), or at least a few of them are fooled by Izanagi, cuz the image of Danzou dying is there. Karin said Izanagi is not a genjutsu, because there is no disturbance in the flow of chakra. So the 6th sense in Narutoverse(chakra sensing)is fooled as well. Remembering the definition of reality which I stated before, well...what does Izanagi do exactly? It manipulates, influences the 6 senses, yet there is no sign of it.
Madara says that Izanagi takes control of the users personal reality. That's good, but the user's reality, doesn't just apply to the user, it applies to his enemies as well. That's why I smelled some contradiction here at first, but never mind.
Madara also mentioned dream, which is ultimately another form of reality. So I understand that Izanagi is a jutsu, which puts everybody into a state similar to a dream. Those who saw Danzou die, saw just a dream-like vision, and Danzou himself is able to manipulate the dream, in order to materialize himself whereever he wants.
It's a really high-level jutsu, but it raises another simple question. If Danzou can affect the reality even if just his own, then why doesn't he transform into something, like a giant monsta and crush Sasuke(see that madara says that objects or attacks can be made real, which logically are not real at first)
Let's just agree that there are limitations to this technique. The first is clear. The eyes are closing up, and it seems like Danzou doesn't have much more left.
Something caught my attention there...the next minute...somebody predicted in the discussion thread days ago(I don't remember who sorry)
that the closing of the eyes could be continuous, not just after each usage. Which reminds me of the last chapter, where Danzou released something. So it was Izanagi after all.
In conclusion Izanagi is always active, but this depends on the number of the eyes. Danzou released it last week so that's why he used Mokuton, he didn't have time to reactivate the jutsu. The eyes seem to close every minute, so that means the fight itself lasted only 5 minutes until now.
But Danzou has only 5 more minutes left, so let's see what he is planning.
Whoah...he summoned a giant...err, a giant...I dunno what that is really. An elephant, or oliphant?It has bear ears, so it's probably a zombie like Danzou, the bandages on the hand also point to that.(note, why do the summoned animals share stupid things with their owners?this time the bandages...could it be that it hides another sharingan?Shisui's other eye?)
Madara puts us out of our misery and shares us that the thing is a Baku a legendary beast which eats nightmares. So Baku-chan starts sucking everything, which turns out to be a good move from Danzou since he made Susano'o unable to move.
Using this to his advantage Danzou figures out that Susano'o has a weakness, probably a weak point in the armor.
Susano'o is shown with his spine revelaed, probably the suction of Baku strips him slowly, so Susanoo's weak point seems to be its back.
That's why Danzou launches a fearsome attack at Susano'o trying to defeat it or maybe even push him more towards Baku. The tactic is great that's for sure, since he uses the suction power to increase his own Fuuton jutsu.
But Fuuton isn't pumped up by just Fuuton. And Sasuke knows that. Showing us that he didn't lose his mind completely, and that his anger is not that wild anymore, it's rather focused, he heats up things a it.
Nice move, great tactics until now.
In the meanwhile Karin is doing as always. She tries to figure out the mechanics behind the jutsu. She also figures out that the countdown of the eyes is continuous and that Danzou has 4 minutes left to fight. She seems to inform Sasuke about this(or maybe Sasuke figured it out too) and he uses an old trick to confirm the theory. That made me laugh, Danzou fell for it like an academy student. Nice move Sasuke...
So knowing how the technique works not what it does, Sasuke launches a barrage of attacks at Danzou forcing him to keep Izanagi active. This way Danzou is left with only one eye and one more attack.
But before that...
...this caught my attention.IIRC the left eye is Amaterasu, so this time Sasuke is using his right eye. From the surprised, scared look of Danzou it seems like Sasuke did something. A genjutsu maybe?
Anyway...
This is the final panel of the chapter. The two great combatants charge into one another, by using weapons powered up with their own respective elements.It's interestin thugh how Danzou pimped his kunai. With his mouth...this makes Fuuton to be more versatile than Raiton which is a good sign for Naruto...The question raised by the author is correct. Is Danzou another spectre, or is it the real Danzou. But if I'm right, what if Sasuke is not the real one as well?
Quick summary/Opinions
The chapter turned out to be quite alright. From the spoilers(which I didn't read with attention) I got the feeling that this battle will be reduced to a stamina/chakra capacity test for both users. In way it was, but we know now that it had a time limit attached to it. Very nice move from Kishi, making this fight only 10 minutes, all the array of jutsus and insane moves, suddenly became more energic and spectacular. A bit disappointed that Kishi didn't make it somehow to introduce some other characters, but it seems like this fight is really important for the further evolution of Sasuke(and Taka maybe). So the chapter is a 7.5/10. The fight was great, there were new elements inlcluded in the fight, we saw old-school ninja techniques and tactics as well, so not bad. Also the battle was accompanied by great panels, nice captions and panoramas.
But no chapter should be taken out of context. The story itself didn't move forward, just the fight, and the somehow I have the feeling that this becomes a bit stretched. Luckily Kishi shares with us that next week we have the conclusion of the fight.Therefore...
Predictions/Want to happen
...next week we'll get to see the end of the fight. There are a few scenarios though which I have in mind. First is that Danzou used Izanagi, but Sasuke also used a genjutsu. That means Danzou is at disadvantage, and points towards Sasuke as victor.
It can be that Danzou didn't use Izanagi, but Sasuke used genjutsu, which means that Danzou is injured, but still has one more minute left, so maybe he'll try to retreat or something.
It could be that Sasuke didn't actually do anything and I'm just reading too much into those panels, but who knows...anyway, Sasuke is at the disadvantage, becuz the fool deactivated Susano'o, that means he's at his limit as well.
So...last weeks prediction gets to be written again...we'll have the victor next week...and please Mr.Kishimoto...make the next chapter in a way to show other characters as well. Though it's not just a wish I think it will actaully happen. From this chapter I think there's nothing more to this battle, so in order to make the next one interesting, somebody else besides these 4 people(Karin, Madara, Sasuke and Danzou) must be shown.
There are many other possibilities, foreshadowings of what could happen
next week, judging by a few statements Danzou made, but I don't really want to read into them, because it would contradict Kishi sayin that next week is the conclusion.
