Funny how Naruto is less popular but the fans comment the episodes a lot more than One Piece episodes?

Why? Because One Piece has nothing to analyze or discuss at all. It's plain ol' fun jokes and emotional catharsis all the way. It's like asking why old ladies love soap operas or why teenagers love being emo kids. We all enjoy One Piece, but calling it better than Naruto? No, please.

However, despite all the bashing, I love Oda's writings as long as they're not fight scenes. The angles and detailes of drawings are superb!

Easily One Piece > Naruto > Bleach for me.

Naruto has been bad ever since Part 2, and the only thing it retains is the action. Naruto's obsession with Sasuke, Sasuke's little revenge tragedy act, Sakura (haha), and the side characters are all thrown to the sidelines in favour of little Naruteo and Sasukeliet. And most of all, it has just been plain boring lately.

Bleach is just plain horrible. How anyone can still be entertained by this fail of a manga is beyond me. The only redeeming arc is the Soul Society arc, but these past 2 or more years of bland 1 on 1 fights and non-stop character trolling by Kubo make this one of the worst popular shonen out there right now. I'm happy the fandom is slowly dying, even in Japan, where volume sales are going dooown.

Then we have One Piece. Thought it was crap before I started, yet I started the anime anyways during the summer when I had nothing to do. This is probably the only manga that's given me uncontrollable chills. In short, it's too epic. Naruto and Bleach has never made me shake in my seat while I'm reading through chapters. How the fanbase and sales are increasing even after 550+ chapters is a good indicator of this.

This isn't even a question anymore, as it's pretty much unanimous. Almost everyone who has read all 3 mangas claim that OP is superior.

This isn't a popularity discussion, it should be your personal take on the matter

Why? Because One Piece has nothing to analyze or discuss at all. It's plain ol' fun jokes and emotional catharsis all the way. It's like asking why old ladies love soap operas or why teenagers love being emo kids. We all enjoy One Piece, but calling it better than Naruto? No, please.
Sometimes less is more. I wouldn't agree that One Piece doesn't have anything to discuss or analyze at all. You're basing that on the number of posts in anime discussion threads? WTF?
Or you're actually reading it and don't feel like you could discuss about it, about relations between characters, about characters themselves, about battles or about predictions.
I read a manga that didn't make me feel like discussing about anything about it. It's Bleach and I've stopped reading it as a result.

At least One Piece hasn't instated an update in combat rules system lately. Naruto comes back from timeskip, shows us how he learned almost nothing and Kakashi comes and says something like:"Naruto, you've been ninja for a couple of years now, but you see, there's this element rule thing that can complicate battles a little. Let's see which one you are."
I guess Jiraiya just forgot or something.
And yeah, those elements caused thousands of posts on this forum, but just because they can confuse the readers or make them discuss about possible plot holes, it doesn't mean that Naruto is a better manga.
As I said, One Piece manages to do it better with less material than Naruto. That's me, saying my opinion.

However, despite all the bashing, I love Oda's writings as long as they're not fight scenes. The angles and detailes of drawings are superb!
Frankly, I would have hated it if the fights in One Piece became more technical. This kind of fighting is better suited for a manga about pirates. The fighting in which no rules apply. I like it.

Ninja fights are more subtle, more precision is required. Of course, one almost forgets that with all those nuke champions strolling around. (damn, too much LoL)

i think there is a huge difference here which noone is paying attention to-->

OP is not better plot-wise but the plot-holes and overused themes in naruto made it look like going downhills

OP didnt reveal even 1/10th of the big-real-shit yet so we still dont know if there are plot holes or inconsistencies or overused themes or etc etc...we actually know nothing except that there is a boy who is the next candidate for becoming the pirate king and there was an ancient civilization that held great power and there is something fishy about the World's Government . this is all that oda ever revealed about the actual plot ,wrong? who can guarantee that when he starts to reveal everything they wont suck?

but Naruto finally started to show its full-hand (which is imho because kishi is rushing to its end -which btw sux big time) so we are cathing the flaws in the big picture and everything else.. if kishi didnt rush things up to this point and was still going with fights like chuunin-exam with all the side-chars included(upgraded to shippuuden quality ofcourse) nobody would be complaining about the plot because we would be still uninformed about it.

i can only compare OP to Naruto when i actually know what's Oda up to with OP's plot

Well...easy to answer.

Naruto: I no longer follow Naruto. Stop following the weekly update for a year now, and dropped the anime more than three years ago. I only follow the Thai tanko version of it, but that's what I do with every other mangas I read (buy all the licensed ones upon arrival...), so that won't going to help with anything. Naruto is never on my top ten or even top twenty even. Have to admit, I find it one of the most boring shounens ever...-_-"

Bleach: I do follow the spoiler that came out every week...but only the manga though. I dropped Bleach anime about a year(?) ago. Already forgot why. I might pick it up sometimes soon because of the Japanese cast, but not anytime soon, as I still have anime left unwatched. At first, it seems like a good shounen, but after a while...I think it's getting boring (not as boring as Naruto, but certainly is getting a bit too repetitive with the flow there... ._.")

One Piece: Have to say...plain epic. It might not be my most favorite taken how I don't like weekly manga in general to start with, not to mention, it's WSJ. (I personally dislike Shueisha more than other publishers because of various reasons. My favorite weekly of all, CB, is a Kodansha title, and second is FT, which is also a Kodansha title...plus, none of Shueisha title, even Basara 3 which I'm translating myself, is in the top ten list for my favorite monthly. ._.") But, by far the best in WSJ. -_-"

There are many elements that I would like to see in the manga...we're talking about shounen here so I don't expect some complicated stuff...
But the characters in Naruto and Bleach are better written than in OP imo...the ST crew member's life is very detailed, but their relationship has less substance than in the other two...note that I wrote less not little...
OP is just gearing up and presenting us something new, maybe in a 50 chapters we'll know where the plot heads, so these characters might mold together as the plot progresses...so Naruto leads in this category
As someone said above...the fact that OP's plot is better, is because there was no room for plot holes until now...chaining together some random voyages to different islands was great, but the main plot is just a rumor, which is that Luffy will be the Pirate King of the New Age...
In Naruto things are being wrapped up, so this is the time, when plot-holes are closed, gaps are being thinned...
Bleach is beginning something new with this Hougyoku revelation, but Kubo chose a good way to explain things...
I like the story of all three, and I admit that what Oda created is something really epic...I mean the imagination, the richness of his world and the way he handles it in the story is way better than in Bleach or Naruto...but all three are fantasy worlds and if U want to sink in all three worlds U can, it's just a matter of taste...I like Naruto better because of it's Japanese themes and japanese cultural references, then comes Bleach and than OP...
OP story progression is the best, but it's a thin margin which separates it from Naruto.
Regarding art, Bleach and Naruto are close with Bleach taking the crown here...

I never missed one Naruto or Bleach chapter...but there were moments with OP that I skipped because it was boring...
So overall Bleach and OP are on the same level for me, and Naruto is on 1st place, but it's a matter of taste, even if there are objvective elements that weigh in my decision...if one would like to contest those objective elements...please do:D(art, relationship between characters, construction of the plot and individual chapters, etc)

I have to go with Naruto on this one, simply because its a story i've been able to reread multiple times and not be bored with. Bleach has gotten drudgingly slow since the HM arc, and One Piece loses in character development for me. I know alot of One Piece fans may disagree but it suffers from just as much hax as other mangas. It's completely story driven, allowing Luffy and main characters to somehow power up out of nowhere without any training just by getting a higher bounty on their head. The only person you see working on his strength is Zoro in the manga. The story just moves along so well that people just don't notice i guess.

I can recall Luffy powering up once in the manga; gear two and three during the Water 7 arc. He's pretty much been a beast since the beginning of the series. Powers/skills are different in One Piece. Oda chooses powers based on how they look in a fight and adding a little humor to the action. There's no training arcs because training arcs tend to drag the story. The plot stops moving when the main character, see the current chapters of Naruto.

OP ftw!

Naruto has its ups (some of the fights are pretty cool) and downs (Sasuke's emo-ness)..

Bleach was good but ever since the SS arc.. it went downhill.. i hate the way TK sensei killed off some of the characters (espada)... and Ichigo's sudden power ups are plain irritating.. he always managed to mutate and beat more powerful opponents..

One Piece is epic. I love Oda sensei's story telling and art. Even though OP consists of many story arcs and characters, Oda sensei manages to weave them together seamlessly. He's a genius!

Naruto frustrates me sometimes. It's high points are fantastic, the recent team 7 reunion was done brilliantly. Then all of a sudden Kishi introduces a training arc and everything grinds to a halt. All in all it's been really good the past year, from the Pain fight to the reunion there really were not that many bad chapters.

Bleach has rebounded nicely recently. Since the Yamamoto fight ended Kishi seems to have gotten back to basics. Bleach has gotten back into my good graces the last few months.

OP is still the best. There's really no doubt it is a unique, once a generation series that adds a lot to the action genre. It and FMA will be remembered as the first great shonen-action of the 21st century.

Before I state my opinion, I'd like to remind you all that it's just that: my OPINION. Thank you. Now, I shall get on to my post.

I never got into One Piece. I tried reading it, I tried watching the anime, and it never really held my interest for more than one or two chapters or episodes at the most. I just find it boring.

Naruto is okay, but I've slightly lost interest in it. This is due to a few things, but the most irking thing is that every time it seems like it's all coming together, story wise, a whole new arc starts with a lot of confusion during that transition, even though it might just be me. By the way, I'm referring mainly to the end of the Pain saga here, but there are other lesser instances as well... It's just gotten a bit confusing for me.

Bleach is by far my favorite manga and anime series. Maybe the story in itself is what makes me love it so much. I'm not entirely sure. It's just that the way it's set up is far superior to One Piece and Naruto. Again, this is my opinion, and if don't agree, then let's agree to disagree. Let me continue... The way the characters are set up, in the Soul Society in particular, is just awesome, in my eyes. A lot of thought must have gone into the squad emblems (Daffodil for the 10th squad, Lily of the Valley for the 5th squad, Bellflower for the 4th squad, etc.) and that in itself is amazing. The characters, at least for the most part, take on the associated characteristics of their squad's crest. And in addition to that, I totally fell in love with the Turn Back the Pendulum arc. I think it's really cool how, in general, a lot of characters (not just the Vizards, considering Urahara, Yoruichi, Tessai, etc.) were formerly associated with other important characters, and the fact that their roles have intertwined with the plots of such antagonists like Aizen, it's just incredibly amazing how it was thought out.

I suppose, in a sense, you could say that I'm not really a huge fan of stories with the main character having a goal (such as Luffy becoming King of the Pirates, or Naruto becoming Hokage), but I rather enjoy stories with more intricate storylines that make you think. (Ichigo doesn't really have a huge "goal" like the main characters of the other two manga - he tends to focus on the goal at hand, such as saving Rukia or Orihime.) I do realize that essentially all manga (and stories in general) require thinking about things deeper than the surface, but out of these three, Bleach is the one that did it the most for me. It got my attention, kept it, and sparked a long-lasting interest in the series.

Again, this has just been my own opinion, and nothing more. Feel free to disregard my ideas if you so desire, as there is no way I can force you to accept them. In no way do I disrespect the creators and/or fans of One Piece and/or Naruto, nor do I place the creators and/or fans of Bleach higher than those of One Piece and/or Naruto.

Oh, and sorry if you were seriously taking into account my ideas and opinions, but my long winded speech deterred you. I tend to get carried away when writing about things sometimes. ^^;;

Re: NARUTO vs.Bleach vs. One Piece Poll

I think both are very different styles of writing, and I'm sure that OP is WAY easier to write than Naruto. I mean, you have the Naruto fans in their forum discussing that the elemental composition of the chakra proves in fact that X character is able to learn a certain jutsu, there's even a thread discussing psychiatric illnesses of the characters, the culture, values and moral conflicts. I can imagine Kishimoto having headaches on whether his character can learn a jutsu because his blodline limit will allow it or if a raiton bunshin will use half of your chakra. The only people I've seen discussing stuff with so much frenzy by comparing it to the script are Jehova's witnesses with a bible.
Now, compare it to OP, where Oda can write something like this: "This time Luffy will go to a village where... there are... people that walk backwards, the villain will be able to convert anything into cottage cheese". You have an indestructible character made of rubber --rubber with no yield strenght nor plastic deformation whatsoever-- which usually gets powerups out of nowhere whenever he needs them, with no moral code but rather a life built upon a whim, and so many logical inconsistencies that you can't possibly have any plot hole as long as you have enough imagination. Does a sandman get beaten by using 20 liters of water? Great idea! Makes Marvel's Hydro looks stupid. Having a gigantic golden ball melted over your hand is nothing: rubber is indestructible.

Personally, I'll give more credit to Naruto because of the effort to create a "realistic" manga.
So is realistic that a man can handle shadows, clone yourself 100 times, get lightining out of your hand, spit huge balls of fire from your mouth, take out of your own body snakes, without getting harmed, killed, being in a profund pain? Come on, this is shonen, most of the physic laws don't work.

Really I think the opposite. Non realistic? I think Oda handles societies is very realistic, a world where nobody is altruistic enough to live without rules. He uses interesting subjects such as discrimination, conflicts of interests, search of freedom, politics, lack of natural resources, corruption, slavery, war, moral systems. I find Naruto very interesting, but now everything has become a Sasuke/ Madara/Akatsuki/Orochimaru vs the world. The good vs the Bad. So used. At least in the last One Piece war was something like:

"Whitebeard Pirates vs Marines (or WG), the good vs the bad? Its all about perspective: In one hand, Whitebeard, as being a pirate, is socially (and legally) seen as a renegade of law, and during his life he has done things that probably weren't good, an element that should be locked/eliminated for the sake of people, and the war is the best oportunity to do it.
But the Marines aren't angels, because the people who are in the high charges (Gorousei, the head people in the World Goverment) are probably, surrounded by corruption, (See the subject?, that just a few people rules this world because they are powerful politically and economically? See how similar is in this world?), and see Whitebeard as a threat to their interests; because many societies in One Piece world were slavered, and so races (total discrimination with Fishmen, they were treated worst that scum, which was almost solved by the revolution in Mariejoa, but there is still slavery in the most official places of the WG), and Whitebeard, with his great power and strength he protected all those people, also the people that lived in peaces where the marine couldn't get into, because its filled with bandits, assasins, etc..., so Whitebeard protects them.
And Whiteberd, a great capitain, that loves deeply their subordinates, because that is his true dream: a family; that is why he is in the rescue of one of his sons, Ace; he knows the consequences of it, but he is gonna do it, because when a father looses a child, he looks for him whatever happens, even if he needs to fight the Marines."
There are a lot of facts that were a pelude to the war, the facts were always there, and so was the tension, but it just needed to pull the trigger to it, the war's Luisitania: Ace.

In Naruto, is kinda similar, but not realistic. Its like Madara: "I want to own the moon so I can do an illusion that will dominate you guys *insert evil laugh here*. And yes, a bunch of powerful people (but just physically) tring to make the world theirs, but just with jutsus and powers. But just them, the rest is gonna suffer.
In OP, its similar to the Imperialist countries, that dominate the weak countries, but not only by force, but with political, ideologial, and economical domination.

And the themes that he uses, like the desert for Arabasta, the Clean-ish form of clouds for Skypiea, the Scary Castle for Triller Bark, the Venetian form of Water 7, the Japanese-fortress of Marine Ford, the Chinese vilage of Amazon Lily, The bubbled-island of Sabaody etc...

The power ups, well Oda doesn't like to write training arcs (which someone may like it, and someone they dont), so he gives several clues that he needs the training. For example: Gear Second. Luffy gets pwned by Aokiji, and Robin was about to die for it, so he realizes he needs to be stonger. Timeskip (where its supposed to the strawhats to train), he imagines a new power, but he needs to practice it: experiment and error. I suppose you've read until the last chapter, so you could see why Luffy was so strong in the beggining, and how his training is about.

And about the art, I like the way that Kubo handles people, the shape (arms, legs, torso) positions of human people are really excellent. But he really needs to do some backgrounds

Naruto, well, loved the detailed very pointy form of face, stuff, and specially clothes. In part two me hade it more simpler and organic, all the clothes shadows i loved so much are gone (but thats a matter of interests), still there is a epic double spread (the one with the kyuubi), i really hope that kishi does a lot of those in the future.

And One Piece, well art in the beginning was kinda too simple and DB-ish, but is has gotten better.

This is a Huuuuge expample of that.

And for many reasons, One Piece all the way.
now this is getting funny is there any way ever where you can find logic in ANY of the 3 biggies ? i mean just look at the 3 they make their own laws of physics and expound on them,
the reason i dont like OP is its retarded Artwork and Even more retarded Jokes the Main is the most stupid character i have seen in manga world and all the characters are weird and idiosyncratic (though these r my and my OP only one of my closest friend is insane abt OP and we constantly get into argument,) and even more the anime quality of OP is comparable to slide shows so even that is sth that puts me off

Retarded Artwork?

And yea, Naruto has 2 excellent and super epic double pages, but One Piece has more then 15.

it's an interessant opinion, because the art in one piece it's very original and unique, and this make it superior to other manga
