Naruto Masashi Kishimoto | - | Tokyo Ghoul Sui Ishida |
This is my thinking as well. When I first read TG I instantly fell in love with it and had to keep reading it, and tbh has a lot more plot wise for me then Naruto will ever have.
). Ill touch on a handful of them in this post, from both sides of the coin. Some of them are my personal favorites

His mother died at childbirth, his aunt telling him that she had died because of him and went to her grace cursing his existence. Coupled with the fact that his father tried assassinating him 6 times, and his siblings plus whole village shunning him for harboring a monster in him, the One Tails, Gaara grew up believing he wasn't loved by anyone in the whole village. So he became an existence that loved himself and only lived for himself. After meeting and fighting Naruto, however, he realized that true strength comes from fighting for the ones you love. Which pushed him into becoming not only the Leader of his village, but also the regimental commander of the Allied Shinobi Forces.
Unlike Gaara or Neji though, he doesn't exactly have a sad backstory that's shaped him, it's more of....what makes him stand out more than anything is his personality. Shikamaru is probably the laziest character in the whole series, expressing little interest in doing anything that's too taxing. You'd think that would naturally take away all his good traits, but he is quite possibly the smartest character in the whole show, even eclipsing well known S-class ninja and Kage as far as critical thinking is concerned. A good testament of this was when he was the only person who was able to deduce how Hidan's abilities worked. Coupled with the fact that he possesses AMAZING leadership qualities, to the extent of being charged with leading a mission to retieve a rogue Sasuke. He is honestly one of the show's best characters.

What a good man you are Spriggan. Naruto doesn't deserve you. I may not be able to vote for it due to an infinite surplus of pairing salt but as far as I'm concerned you are a champion worthy of the highest respect. May you fight well.
Real story though, this was my first ship ever, the only fan fics I read arduously are NaruSaku stories as well, and back in the day I remember visiting Heaven and Earth sites all the time
This is probably the one ship I'll probably never get over. Not to mention Sakura is one of my favorite heroines when all is said and done. I just.....love these two so much
And here I am only liking the first early arcs lol.

LambuNaruto had its moments but Tokyo Ghoul is more solid and engaging overall.
The characters are amazingly well written, seeing them struggle in that distorted world of hate and tragedy. The main character Kaneki is especially good but there are many others that are great aswell
The plot is excellent, its really hard to predict whats going to happen next or the real thoughts of the characters, its focus in the conflict between ghouls and humans conveys both morals and human emotions very accurately with a story plagued of hidden symbolism and beautiful, and sometimes impactful, dark artwork that only grows as the chapters run.
If you leave nostalgia aside I dont think Naruto is capable of standing against this great work of fiction, it would be a shame TG is overlooked for its horrible anime counterpart.
