Seems like everyone is playing to not get injured. Rather than playing to win games.

One theory behind elevated injuries claims elevated muscle tears and injuries are associated with greater steroid and PED use. A normal athlete will develop muscles closer to equivalent to the strength of their tendons and joints. Steroids and PEDs throw the equation off. Muscles become stronger in relation to tendons/joints/bones. Resulting in more torn tendons, broken joints and bones.

I can't claim to know the exact cause.

A boatload of injured athletes in every game, seems borderline ridiculous though.

In some of those emails, Gruden referred to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as a "fa****t" and a "clueless anti football p****y." He wrote that Goodell shouldn't have pressured then-Los Angeles Rams coach Jeff Fisher to draft "queers," according to the report. The Rams made Michael Sam the first openly gay player to be drafted in the NFL in 2014.

Gruden denounced the NFL's move to hire women as referees and criticized acceptance of players protesting for racial justice during the national anthem.

Zero tolerance for diversity of opinions here, Mr. Gruden.

Framing this as if "difference of opinion" got him fired is laughably dishonest

You fail to understand the context and precedent being set here.

No I don't. Emails aren't some sacred place where nothing you say really matters, it's as recent as 2018. What is there to complain about here? He's a piece of shit.

The idiot coached the team that had the first openly gay player.... that is the fucking context

Imagine them looking up emails or texts, containing profanity, from people when they were 13 years old.

(Its not a problem for me, I never use language like that.)

Do people deserve to be fired from their jobs or loose their livelihoods because of it? Just for using profanity.

Hm.. I don't think so.

Your side of the political fence is famous for saying corporations are evil / eat the rich ideology.

Can you support corporate franchises having the power to fire people simply for using profanity or slurs. Won't the "evil corporations" abuse this power?

Why are you moving the goalposts? This isn't shit being said by a fucking 13 year old, it's a man in his 50s that has either worked in the league or worked as a commentator for decades. A man who works with and coaches black and gay people. What's so hard to understand here? Why is firing someone for using slurs controversial? It's not a matter of free speech, the man isn't being arrested. What you say has consequences. Get a grip.

And no, I'm not defending the corporation either. It is quite funny how this shit leaks out but tons of information regarding Dan Snyder's emails have mostly remain under wraps. Why? Because it's the difference between those signing the checks and those receiving them.

But to act like this is some sort of indignation and not completely justified... too funny

Over the last 50 years.

The rights and freedoms of employees have been eroded.

While the rights and freedoms of corporations and private enterprise have become increasingly authoritarian, exploitive and abusive.

You either support this trend, or oppose it.

There isn't much of a middle ground to be found. :invalid

Yeah, he's done. I mean, I don't buy into the whole sports players and coaches are role models thing but it's just a bad look in a role where people like to pretend that stuff matters.

I mean, to be honest, I don't care if somebody is homophobic or whatever. I believe in punishing people for actions, not thoughts, regardless of how abhorrent I may find them to be personally. Not big on firing people for what they they think and say privately if they can remain professional either. And I'm certainly not a big fan of digging up stuff from a decade ago to punish them in the here and now. But this just seems like a pattern of unprofessional behavior over a pretty long stretch.

An NFL coaching position is a public thing. They represent their teams. You embarass your team or you embarass the league then you're on the hook for that. Gruden did that in spades so he needed to be fired. Simple as that.

Yes, and you're demonstrably anti-union and workers rights, so maybe you have a bit of soul-searching to do.

Does the usage of offensive slurs require a middle ground when you're supposed to be a leader?

Absolutely insane comeback.... holy shit
--- Double Post Merged, ---

" Colts are now 120-1 in games where they’ve had a 16 point lead in the 4th quarter since moving to Indy."

This plus that insane stat the Browns had with their loss to the Chargers, plus everything else this weekend. Way to cap off one of the craziest NFL Weekends ever.

All Gruden said was NFL coaches shouldn't be pressured to give LGBT players favortism over non LGBT players.

He called Roger Goodell a freggat and pussy for pushing political LGBT agendas in sports. Where LGBTs are shown privilege & favortism over non LGBTs.

He didn't state his opinion publicly. He said it privately in an email which could be kept confidential.

Political agendas such as allowing transgender men to compete in female sports should have no place.

I have no problems if Gruden thinks some demographics (like LGBTs) should not be shown privilege and favortism over others.

I support real equality.

While calling them "queers"

How can it be said they're shown privilege/favoritism when it took until 2021 for the first openly gay player to be on a roster?

The Michael Sam ordeal was pushing for him to be drafted IF he was good enough. Plenty of players are drafted that don't make rosters. But there were many "respected" people in NFL circles saying they wouldn't want him on their roster purely because of his orientation, like that gremlin Tony Dungy.

But make no mistake, Goodell is a worm and wasn't pushing for this solely out of some sense of meritocracy, he was also covering the owners asses in case of violations of any anti-discrimination laws.

He didn't state his opinion publicly. He said it privately in an email which could be kept confidential.
How is this relevant? Private thoughts should be discarded because they weren't meant to be seen by the public? A head coach has to stand up in front of dozens of players and staff of different backgrounds and orientations and command respect. How can he do that while clearly not respecting them as people?

Political agendas such as allowing transgender men to compete in female sports should have no place.
What is this relevant to?

I have no problems if Gruden thinks some demographics (like LGBTs) should not be shown privilege and favortism over others.
They're not, so I don't know why this opinion matters

I support real equality.
No you don't, you support "equality" as long as it's convenient for your worldview.

My other issue with this entire thing is the absolutely hypocrisy... not just by Goodell or any of the owners, players, or anyone in the media.

But that has no effect and does not "soften" the blow of what Gruden said/did.

The best and latest example being this -

Does this make sense? To me, yes. But the Buccaneers have no issue employing someone like Antonio Brown, do they? Plus, this is 100% about what Gruden said about the Glazers... lol

Good post @xi0

...

ANYWAYS.

Moving right along. :invalid

Would it be ok if I started posting predictions for NFL games in this thread.

My predictions from last week were 75% accurate.

Could be cool to see how good or bad my calls trend over the longer term.

What is with Steelers players and punching people this season? Watt got away with it and made a pivotal play when he could/should have been ejected, and now Heyward tips a pass at the goal line leading to an interception with 4 minutes left.

I mean, I'm trying not to get caught up in Squeelers-Ratbirds discourse here and be impartial but cmon...

That's more of a push than a punch but closed fist so clearly can't do it.

The frustration is sort of there this season with the Steelers defense because the team is pretty terrible. The defense was good at first and it was just the offense that was bad but now the best of those players are out too. Lets face it the entire AFC North is pretty fraudulent right now. We're just sort of fighting it out for who gets to take that fraudulent nature into the first round of the playoffs and get toasted.

Only reason the Steelers ended up with a tie last week was some pretty terrible officiating in our favor.

Honeslty, you should really be looking forward to playing us twice in the home stretch of the season. If the Ravens lose either of those games you should be so deeply ashamed.

The Ravens this year kind of remind me of the Steelers last year. Good record, but very consistently playing like garbage and managing to squeak out wins in the end.

I have no idea what's going on with Lamar and his health. Tons of speculation going on online right now. Wink Martindale needs to get his playcalling in line or he's going to be looking for a job somewhere else. Taking way too many risks when we don't have the personnel, consistently getting torched by big plays because of it, requiring these miraculous comebacks every other week.

If we don't use our first 3-4 picks on Offensive Linemen in the draft next year then we might as well not sign Jackson to a contract since we wouldn't deserve him.

We've already lost half of our starting roster from training camp, and you guys barely beat us last year when half the team was missing with covid, so perhaps I don't hate our chances.

Why limit it to just one division when it's the entire AFC really. Did you see the Bills and the Titans today?

Thankfully, no. But I saw the "highlights".

Really doesn't make me feel good that the NFL got us an extra game so we can even further draw this out. What a dick move that turned out to be.
