I got this idea on the hangout thread, and I had to share it 
Let's say that Sasuke never developed a Sharingan since, I dunno, he wasn't born with it like the majority of the Uchihas, a Sharingan-less Sasuke, able to use any kind of jutsus not related to the Sharingan ( so he can do a Chidori knowing the risks ), while Asuma can do everything that he showed us thus far.
It can be interesting, since both have elements that are weak to the other, while having the counter for it ( Lighting-Wind-Fire ).
So, has Sasuke reached the level of an elite Jounin without his main weapon?
The fight is located where Kimimaro fought Lee and Gaara.
For information, according to the Databook, they have the same stats in Stamina and Speed, while Sasuke is higher in Handseals, Ninjutsu by half a point and Genjutsu by a whole point, where Asuma is better in Taijutsu by a whole point, intelligence by a whole point, and strenght by half a point.
They have a general knowledge of the other ( Sasuke knows that Asuma is a wind user, Asuma knows that he is a Raiton/Katon user since he was trained by Kakashi and is an Uchiha ).
