Welcome back all! It's been quite a while but Noblesse is back so it's time for me to dust off the ol' keyboard and write a little about one of my favorite series out there.
Lets see, the interesting stuff from last month's paring poll would be....
Oh and since we're in a gaiden type thing I'm not doing predictions; I'm doing a story arc wishlist instead.
Now onto the review!
This chapter starts out in the distant past with Raizel and the previous lord having one of their classic discussions in his throne room. With the previous lord trying to badger him into moving outside his lonely mansion and into the palace with him and Raizel replying with "I decline" to every word he says.
As the discussion is ending Gejutel and Ragar Kertia, the former leader of the Kertia clan, enter the throne room. Raizel takes the opportunity to beg his leave. The previous lord dwells on Raizel's situation a bit and considers how hard it is to hold a conversation with him, thinking that when people go and visit they must just end up awkwardly sitting there starring at each other (which seems about right to me). Then he goes on to consider what excuse he's going to use to get Raizel out of that mansion next . A noble athletics competition is his first thought (HAHA!) but he asks the two clan leaders for their thoughts; it then occurs to him that they probably didn't come here for that and asks them what business brought them to him.
Gejutel reports that large band of mutants that were harming humans were killed by a human; also apparently this human has killed large numbers of mutants before this. The Lord is interested but since the mutants were marked for death anyway he sees no problem.
Gejutel tells him there is more to it than just the mutants. Apparently this human has gained power through very dubious methods and humans themselves fear his strength and brutality. However he has become far to strong for them to deal with and some have even asked the Lukedonia nobles for help but their non-intervention in human affairs policy prohibits them from acting. The lord confirms that even in this situation intervention is not permitted.
Gejutel tells him there is even more. All of the knights they have sent after the source of the mutants have disappeared and they believe the mutant hunting human is involved. And, after investigating, they discovered he has fought nobles before; defeating everyone he's faced, erased the memory of most, and even killed some. The previous lord orders Gejutel and Ragar to go capture this man and bring him back so his fate can be decided.
Meanwhile in a dungeon somewhere with the a captured knight see's his captor, none other than Frankenstein, and remembers his whole squad being beaten by this man; then demands to be released, saying his imprisonment is against the law of nobles. Frankenstein simply tells hims that the laws of nobles have nothing to do with him. The knight is stunned to learn that Frankenstein is a human.
Substance
Noblesse returns with a full blown Frankenstein Gaiden. I'm sure everybody out there that loves Frankenstein (and who doesn't?) is jumping for joy right now.
So far we've seen Frankenstein as a dark hunter of nobles and mutants. Why did he do all this? What did he hope to gain from it? How do he and Raizel meet? What exactly is the dark spear? Looks like we are finally going to get answers to all these questions, and possibly more, in the coming weeks.; along with more hilarious previous lord scenes as an added bonus.
Which brings me to another bit of insight we got from this. We got to see just how hard it was for the Previous lord to attempt to lessen his solitude. In a way, Shin Woo did the impossible in befriending Raizel and pulling him into his social group. I think if the previous lord could have seen it he would have been pleased, amused, and impressed all at the same time.
Presentation
Short chapter and to be honest I expected a little more from the artwork after a long break but there was nothing wrong with it. I'd say artistically average. We did get to finally see the previous lord's eyes though, and that made me pretty happy.
In terms of pacing. It was fine. Most of it was a kind of prologue, setting up this self-contained story of Frankenstein's past. So lots of dialogue not much action.
In terms of humor I loved it. The previous lord is just so awesome. Seeing his conversation with Raizel about moving into the palace mirror the conversation about him being the next lord was great. Hopefully, that's going to become a theme.
Final Rating
A short but good beginning to the story of Frankenstien's past. I particularly liked the touches of humor. Presentation was about average though.
I give it a 4 out of 5.
Nothing proven or disproven.
Lets see, the interesting stuff from last month's paring poll would be....
- Shin WooXSeira crushed all opposition (Natrually).
- Runners up were RaizelXRaskreia and RaizelXFrankenstein.
- M-21XYontsu beat out SangeenXYontsu (Score one for torrid affairs!).
- Shin WooXRaskreia had a much weaker showing then I expected (Just you and me Monsterguy; what we lack in numbers we make up for in heart!)
Oh and since we're in a gaiden type thing I'm not doing predictions; I'm doing a story arc wishlist instead.

HAHA, nothing I could type here would make this any funnier than it already is!

Hopes for this Arc
- Seeing the Gejutel & Ragar versus Frankenstein fight that was mention earlier in the series.
- Learning where Frankenstein's devotion to his master comes from
- Learning how Frankenstein and Raizel met.
- Learning the origins of the dark spear.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY! Seeing what Raskriea looked like when she was a little girl

My Previous Predictions(Current Record 17-18)
Nothing proven or disproven.
- Rael will lose his next battle to the RK-4.
- I think Lee Youn-In is going to be more than just a soon-to-be-forgotten sub-character. I suspect she may have a role in the plot.
- Raizel will name Shin Woo his successor; resulting in him inheriting the title and power of the Noblesse.
- The female operative from the Union will eventually end up on Raizel's side, like M-21 and the others.
- Rael will show up at Raizel's school seeking revenge on him and his human friends.
- Na Yontsu will get mixed feeling about recruiting Shin Woo and Ikkan.
- Raizel will ultimately choose to use himself up completely in order to help his friends.
- The Union was originally created by the Traitorous Nobles.
- More traitors than just Roctis are in league with the Union
- M-21 and Yontsu. I think it's going to happen, even if I have no idea how.
