- the irregulars have every reason to feel superior to tower-born people - because they are in every way
- as such, they probably look down on tower-born to varying extent, but there is a wide range from ambivalence to resentment or a total disregard for their lives
- looking down on them or not, that does not equate to mis or maltreatment of them
- as mentioned above, you could look down your nose on the 'ants' before you, and still treat them with care (like, say, Buddhists do as they treasure all life down to the smallest beings). Take Gustang for instance - he seems tower-born as "mere bugs," yeah yeah - we know. But you have a wide range of 'bug collectors' and many take great lengths to create enclosures that would give the bugs the best life they could have - mimicking nature as much as possible, and keeping them well fed and cared for (down to pest and parasitic treatment, and even husbandry concerns). Then, you have the crazy kid with a magnifying glass burning them up under the sun (think: Rei) or just putting two bugs in a jar and shaking it to force a death-match. In short, just like pet owners you can treat those beneath you with contempt or violence (think: those that breed dogs to fight them), or you can try to recreate paradise for them (still for your own enjoyment all the same).
- people are complex, even fictional 'people' - things aren't always so black-and-white
- for example, Urek is often held up as someone that has a higher standard of attitude towards tower-people (even in this very thread), yet when he met Baam he was apathetic towards him and even tried to kill him (before he could tell he was an irregular) merely for being competition. He casually killed the tower-born rankers that opposed him once out of the Zygenia shinhueh belly. At the end of the day, Urek is still an irregular stomping on bugs - on purpose or accidentally. Gustang tried to convince him of this reality. Him play-pretending that everyone is on the same level is just that: pretending.
- as such, as a general rule, the sycophantic tower-born probably get better treatment than randos or enemies (duh)
- family members/offspring are generally treated even better, depending on their household. Khun's are fucked (literally and figuratively) and ignored. Hendos are doomed from birth to have a short life due to their FH's voluntary actions and he's more concerned with prolonging his life than their own. Hon seems to be more 'proud' but that's only insofar as his kids help maintain family status. On the other end of the spectrum, Han may care about the treatment of his kids as a 'justice' type of guy, Yurin doesn't seem to be super-tyranical or despotic (so far), and Hana was said to even be a kind person with a gentle personality (though rare for a FH it is said). Blossom doesn't seem the type to use others' lives as playthings, but her lazy personality could suggest her abuse is more the type to be uninvolved and disinterested in her children.
- still, we have examples that even non-irregulars can be important for the FHs - Gustang was soft on Garam, Yurin on Yuri, and even Rei at one point seemed to care about the well-being of his DDs back in the day, which brings me to my next point:
- their opinions are subject to change over time. Gustang seems to have had SOME change of heart, at least as it pertains to empire, and this MIGHT trickle down to his attitude towards bugs (he's still a supremacist, but I think his 'concern' for the souls on FoD and aiding Garam hints that he's not exactly Mengele-esque towards them like Rei might be). Then, we have Rei who was hinted to be concerned over the death of a DD, and in present time doesn't seem to give two shits about anyone, including the ultra-rare twin princesses who you'd think he'd at least be able to name.
- to the above point, the 'care' that the FH's have over the select few, generally related, tower-born can stem from different motivations. Yurin might like Yuri because she reminds her of herself for instance, but what about the Ha that don't (or the male Ha members)? Rei might have taken offense to a DD being killed, but not necessarily out of genuine care of the loss of a family member, and more along the lines of taken personal offense that a member of his family was killed (how it looks outwardly as egg on his face). Gustang might 'care' for Garam but who knows if that's just because he needs a bug caretaker on FoD... likewise the souls there are cared for in a way (he doesn't like Urek stomping around - it could destroy them), but there's also the personal benefit he has as keeping them secured on FoD keeps his secret movements from escaping with them.

- Rei and/or Zahard seem to be the most egregious in their complete lack of concern or care, even of their own family members that aren't irregulars (and Zahard doesn't really seem moved by other irregulars for that matter). Zahard purposefully has his daughters duke it out to their deaths, with no true interest in them. Rei can't even be bothered to remember the names of his own princesses. Eduan and Bloodmadder are probably up there for similar but slightly different reasons. Hon seems ruthless, but below the surface. I mean, he egged on a child to commune with literal demons and take the lives and souls of others just in the off chance of being able to fight as an equal to him one day (an impossible task). Seems pretty dark and inhumane. The others are unknown. Best bet is being born a female Yeon I think. Competent fighters in the Ha family probably don't have it too bad, particularly princesses. Eurasians can do what they want - which doesn't seem to be much. Book nerds might get by as a Po Bidau, the bugs that they are.
TLDR: shit's complicated
