Reading this chapter puts me in such position where I clutch my hands in excitement. The further I get into this chapter, the more I think about the consequential notions in each event. It is very exciting as cliffhangers are shown in several pages, making me speculate about the reasons and results of the characters’ activities. I will no longer elaborate this opening. Instead, I will start my review and write my ideas about this chapter. (special thanks to MangaPanda)

Caribou is starting to get in touch with his sense of humanity. He shows an astounded reaction as the person who took care of him gets hurt in this ruckus. Maybe he will defend the lady and fight for their protection and project more concern with her.

Captured

So Robin is right. The small being she was able to catch in the past chapter is indeed a gnome. This earthly creature is no stranger to us. They have been portrayed in countless fictional books and movies as hat-wearing individuals possessing supernatural skills that enable them to protect and fight. They live in the forests, behind those big, thick leaves and trees. Some depict them as gentle creatures while others illustrate them as dangerous beings who punish those who obliterate their possessions. The difference they establish in One Piece is their gullibility in one’s swashbuckling adventures and seemingly harmless objective. Show them your weapon and they will punish you; show them your friendliness and they will welcome you. Robin is able to prove that. After imitating a popular sight in Gulliver’s Travels, the gnomes free the pirate after vowing her undamaging interest in them. But they are cautious. They avoid being seen by the humans thinking that they will deprive them of necessities once their true appearance is revealed. Their dexterity and speed help them to hide from those who remain ignorant of their existence and they abuse the fact that they are being perceived as fairies of the land. They can help Robin reach their rendezvous because of the speed they possess. Usopp may ask their help especially when they are in such pinch. One of them is able to show us the form of strength that the gnomes have when she disintegrates the ground while she is self-deprecating. It seems that when push comes to shove, they can evenly fight against enormous creatures like humans. In addition to that, it appears that they will not refuse the hero they idolize. What makes Usopp popular among the gnomes is his ability to lie and narrate blustering adventures in Grandline. Some of them may be true like his encounter with the giants and the struggle he had to go through to be more skillful but because he is a liar, he might have edited some of his narrations. Because the gnomes live in the forest, this plant-wielding hero appears unintimidating to them.

The Skeptic

Zoro remains skeptical about the existence of fairies but gets easily swayed by the hear-says of the villagers when he realizes that his swords are lost. Because they cannot clarify the disappearance of weapons and other things, they just recognize it as a phenomenon done by the fairies and allow them to take whatever they want. Such disappearance is a manifestation of the gnomes’ disapproval of weapons. So the gnome takes away Zoro’s swords as they are more conspicuous compared to others’. But what really astounds him is not the existence of the gnome but the report that he has for others. According to him, Doflamingo and his group are on their way to attack the Strawhats, a plan that is more horrifying because those who are in Thousand Sunny have insufficient strength to fight them. I am not sure why the gnome is concerned about the Strawhats. Maybe he is more concerned about the harm it might cause them when the pirates and the Shichibukai fight. But the latter knows about the existence of gnomes. Such connection might have allowed Doflamingo to use them as guardians of SAD since the “flower field” or Green Bit might be the factory of the said stuff. Like the Strawhats, they might be in danger for allowing them to get nearer to SAD.

Characterization

Few panels are provided for Rebecca and the toy but they show solid characterizations, entailing connections and plausible alliance with the Strawhats. What these panels illustrate is that Rebecca is a brave girl who wants to fight Doflamingo because he must be stopping her from getting whatever she aims for. Maybe there is a rule in Dressrosa where toys and humans cannot live together. Thus, she wants to defeat Doflamingo to be able to nullify the rule he establishes. The panel where she picks up a petal and smiles at the sight of a girl playing with a monkey is a figurative description of a girl who indulges in peace and harmony between toys and humans. This entails that Rebecca is just a normal girl, not a Kuja pirate. Her chances of winning may be minimal, creating the toy’s desire to obliterate SAD so the concentration of the people would be taken away from the fight. The part where the toy ignores the crying girl is another illustration of his desire to stop her. If she realizes that he does not care about whatever she does, maybe there is no point in fighting anymore. He does not have interest in her activities so why would she fight for them? He ignores her so she would think that it’s useless to fight.

Pinch

I thought Doflamingo quit the Shichibukai. Law and the Strawhats trusted it as well, because it was announced in the paper. But just when all appear to be taking their place, they get bitten by the fangs of this very cunning Shichibukai, constricting its grip so they will not be able to move. Law is in trouble. He is alone with the scientist and on his way is the Shichibukai who wants to punish his former subordinate and the new Admiral whose skills are so unplumbed that he may see himself at the pit of the hole he creates. Sanji tells him about this deceit and such idea must have come from the woman he is enthralled to. She must be his source because he has been accompanying her as far as the past chapters are concerned. Law on the other hand, must have another plan if things get complicated especially when he knows the skills of his former captain. I am not sure if Admiral Fujitora will attack Law; he does not announce that he will capture the latter nor the Strawhats. What he tells his subordinates is that they will go to Green Bit and maybe he will attack Doflamingo instead of Law because Smoker tells him about SAD.

The Spectacle

The ending of this chapter opens many questions and speculations among its audience. Law’s plan will measure his intelligence as far as strategizing is concerned. How will he get out of such pinch? Doflamingo is on his way to Green Bit and he has little time to think about an effective strategy that can defeat Doflamingo’s cunningness. Admiral Fujitora will go to their rendezvous; it’s easy to think that he will attack Law but the audience must be cautious to the lines he utters. He does not directly tell his team that they will capture Law and the Strawhats. He just announces that he has some enormous titles on his sleeves that he needs to confront. He could have been entailing it to Doflamingo since he has a reason to capture him.

The Downside

Doflamingo’s influence is more enormous than I thought. He manipulates the contents of the paper just to deceive Law and the Strawhats. He makes them think that things are going their way when in fact, he is laughing at each move they make. He does not resign as Shichibukai because it secures his position to create SAD and enables him to reach his goals without the Marines getting in the way. If my speculation is right, Fujitora can help him as far as defeating Doflamingo is concerned. But if he goes there to capture them, then Law has to strategize to save himself from such pinch.

Overall

This chapter puts me in such excitement. The solid characterization of Rebecca and the toy causes us to speculate about the relationship they have as they establish thoughtful conversation. The Shichibukai on the other hand shows that he is not in tight pinch; he illustrates his intelligence by deceiving them as he fakes his resignation and manipulates the paper. Law needs to make a move before the latter sets foot on Green Bit. Zoro is on his way to help his nakama but I am not sure if his opponent would be a terrible one. Sanji may tell Law about the source of the Shichibukai’s deceit at further chapters and the toy is helping them to reach their aim. Check out the prediction here for 712.

How about you? Do you think Admiral Fujitora will attack Doflamingo instead of Law?
