One piece 792 review : Dogeza

With the arc practically over, all that Is left is to see the aftermath of Doflamingo’s defeat, and its repercussion. As usual the excerpts are from mangastream’s version.
The title of the chapter refers to Dogeza, a form of prostration in Japanese culture, or commonly known as the kowtow. Thanks Erinyes for sharing with us the explanation of the term in Japanese:
Dogeza (土下座 "sitting right on the ground"?) is an element of Japanese manners by kneeling
directly on the ground and bowing to prostrate oneself as touching one's head to the floor.[1][2][3] It is translated into English as "prostration"[2] or "kowtow".[1] It is used to show deference to the most highly-revered high-class person, as a deep apology and to express the desire for a favor from said person.
“Dogeza” is our traditional manner. If we really would love to change other people’s opinions or ask a favor, we sometimes use the manner to others. “Dogeza” has very strong apologizing style and strong activity for Japanese people. When Japanese people look at it, most of us are inspired because kneeing our both legs and hands on the ground and bowing is very humiliating.

On the other hand, when we express our appreciating emotions, we also do “Dogeza”. For instance; before Japanese girls have a wedding, they do “Dogeza” to their parents to express their appreciating emotions. In my case, I did “Dogeza” to my parents before my wedding date. I appreciated my parents how much I appreciated about raising me until I grew up while I was doing “Dogeza”.

In addition to that, You can look at the “Dogeza” style greeting in both a Japanese tea ceremony and a flower arrangement. We use the greeting style in our dairy life. At the time, the style does not have such apologizing and appreciating meanings. The style is just our manner to greet each other.

About time Sabo finally dealt with Burgess, and for good this time.

The chapter kicks off with the outcome of the Sabo vs Burgess fight. Unsurprisingly Sabo seemed to have prevailed again, with Burgess laying on the ground defeated. The fight was skipped but I don’t think it would have made any difference if it had been showed, since those two previously clashed during the tournament and in both cases Sabo won. So it wasn’t necessary to show him own Burgess again…However Sabo doesn’t finish up Jesus. He doesn’t see it as necessary as he realizes that DD is defeated and the birdcage is finally down.Burgess ironizes that he’s too soft but Sabo doesn’t seem to pay him attention at first, and at that moment his den den mushi starts ringing. But Burgess isn’t willing to let it go, he continues to taunt Sabo, and brings up Ace in order to push him over the edge. He reveals what where Ace’s words after he was defeated by BB on Banaro Island, before getting shipped to the Marines, to not tell his little brother about it. Burgess continues to push his luck by pointing Sabo’s absence at Marineford, which I kinda agree with a bit, but in the end it would have made no difference, on the contrary it would have only put Sabo’s life in danger.
As Burgess continues to badmouth Ace,Sabo loses his composure and grabs his face in his dragon claw. He states that every night he wondered about Ace’s words, but that he decided to live without regrets. And this is true for all three brothers since they always sought to live without regrets and to be completely free. Hiding a knife behind his back it seems that Burgess goal was to get Sabo to lose his calm, and stab him in order to get the Mera Mera, but luckily Sabo manages to foil his plan ,and he sends Burgess flying with one of his fiery punches. With this Burgess is finally dealt with, honestly he should have accepted Sabo’s mercy the latter wasn’t vengeful despite what the BB pirates have done to Ace.Good riddance.

The revolutionaries goal was to retrieve a list...I wonder what it's about. :hmm

Sabo finally picks up the den den mushi after all this time, only to be greeted by an angy Koala who scolds him for not picking up earlier. He informs her that he dealt with Burgess’ threat and asks her about a list. She reveals that the RA retrieved it, and with this their business on the island is over. This list is interesting, as we’ve seen before the goal of the revolutionaries while coming to Dressrosa was to find the weapon factory from which weapons were smuggled to various countries in the NW. Doflamingo played an active role in this, as the biggest broker of the underworld. I can see the list being a bunch of things, but to me the most logical answer is that it’s a list of names of DD’s clients, countries and various actors of the underworld that have tried to acquire weapons and such from him. To me it seemed that the Smile business was exclusively held with Kaido who sought to get as many Zoan users in his crew. To me it would make sense if Kaido wanted to have the Smiles exclusively sold to him, because if he doesn’t then any other Yonko or country would seek to buy them. Yet it is not even sure if the other Yonko know about Kaido raising the power of his crew through artificial devil fruits. BM seems to be after Ceasar only because he swindled money from her, so maybe he ended up taking that money in order to fund the Smile research, with the Smiles being used exclusively by Kaido.

Doflamingo and his men get arrested by the Marines.

The scene shifts to DD and his crew getting arrested by the Marines, all of them even some that were thought to be dead and of course DD himself(with the exception of Viola and Baby 5 of course). And again no glimpse of his eyes, as he seems to have bandages all over his face(most likely because of his injury). It is frustrating but at this point maybe it’s just that Oda wants to keep his eyes hidden, because the glasses of part of his design and it should be the case all the time. There might not even be there a great mystery about his eyes like being misshaped, mismatched or anything. Anyway Fujitora decides not to contact HQ just yet, and has a transmission feed being put up to three of the neighboring countries of Dressrosa. Maynard narrates the events that happened in Dressrosa, and soon orders one of the Marines to follow Fujitora. This is rather surprising since it doesn’t really fit the way the Marines handle such situations, so what can be Issho’s motivation for doing this?

The famous Dogeza: Admiral Fujitora prostates himself at the feet of King Riku, asking for forgiveness on behalf of the World Government.

Meanwhile the citizens of Dressrosa insist that Riku resumes his role as King of Dressrosa. They’re even willing to live in poverty if they can finally taste again the peace they had before Doflamingo took over. They are joined in their plea by Elisabello the King of Prodence who reveals that he has already informed the other Kings of Riku’s return on the throne. Surprisingly Fujitora joins in the fray, and he reveals his feeling of guilt for what happened, and that the world government is guilty for allowing someone like Doflamingo to sit on the throne. As proof of this, he and all the Marines prostrate themselves at Riku’s feet, performing the famous Dogeza, while asking forgiveness on behalf on the world government. This event is broadcasted as well to the neighboring countries. It seems that Fujitora’s strategy if we can call it that was to not have the Marines involved directly in dealing with Doflamingo, so that they wouldn’t get any credit in taking him down. And by apologizing like this to the rightful King of Dressrosa, he’s forcing the World Government to acknowledge that the Shichibukai system is not viable, and that it should be abandonned. That is why he delayed the reports to HQ, so that he would be able to apologize in such a manner before he could receive any order preventing him from doing that. Fujitora’s role in this arc ended up being very important, not because he would have stopped Doflamingo(he prolly wouldn’t even if he wanted) but by acknowledging the part of responsibility that the WG had in these events which is sure to have an effect, up to maybe dismantling the Shichibukai which was his goal all along. And there’s a good chance he might succeed since Akainu might be on the same page on that subject.

The news about Dressrosa, the fall of Doflamingo at the hands of the Luffy and Law alliance as well as Fujitora’s apology are about to hit the world, thanks to the journalists. This will surely have huge effects in the NW.

I quite liked this chapter, the final face off between Sabo vs Burgess was interesting, mostly because we got to know Ace and Sabo’s thoughts. The fact that all of DD’s crew are alive and they’re about to face life imprisonment in Impel down, and even DD himself is quite satisfying. Although it seemed odd that Law didn’t try to kill Doflamingo like he said in before but I think this is the best end for him. I didn’t like the idea of him dying to begin with, and him escaping would have been pointless, since he would just be hunted down by Kaido and the Marines. So perhaps it’s best for him to rot in a cell in Impel down after all.I do not believe CP0 are around and even if they were they would have prolly wanted him dead because of his blackmailing of the Tenryuubitos. So it is really the best option for him. And finally I really liked Fujitora’s move that is quite bold I must say. Hopefully it will have the expected effect.
My prediction for next chapter is that we could see Riku finally accepting to be King again , the usual party although without Sanji and the others around it’s hard to see how it will go exactly. And of course the much awaited news about the Sunny’s crew whom we haven’t heard of ever since they engaged Big Mom’s ship. This might set the next arc into motion if it turns out they were captured by Big Mom’s crew. And maybe we could see Sabo and Luffy taking leave of each other.
Based on my enjoyment of the chapter I’m giving it a 9 out 10 rating. It felt like a perfect conclusion, one that made sense and it managed to hold some surprises like Fujitora apologizing on behalf of the World Government. That image was quite powerful.
