Firstly, what Zoro did was use his killing intent, which is a completely different matter. Secondly, the animators aren't given any furthur information then that shown in the manga so far, so you can't judge the plot from the new opening.

I'm very impressed with the animators though. They done a good job stretching a single manga chapter for a single 20 minute episode.

They've been doing this since the new arc began, keeping an odd 37 chapters behind the manga storyline, which is worthy of praise, unlike another certain manga/anime series ('Cough' Bleach 'Cough') that unneccessarily speeds through the manga in the anime, and then makes us watch pointless, long and boring filler arcs until the manga has enough chapters for the story to continue.

I'd hardly call wasting time by stretching a chapter a good thing...

well compared to Bleach, which I really tried to get into, but simply couldn't because the episode I watched was basically running through one huge floor for 20 long minutes... I think it's a good idea that they animate what Oda draws, not only the main story parts but also little frames like the one last episode with zoro.

what I'm trying to say is this: I'd rather see some pointless micro-fillers woven into the actual story than even more pointless and not canon filler-arcs that would totally destroy the vibe of the saga since it's basically all building up for the climax of the first half.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. The best example I can think of is when they recently approached the red line, the manga had one frame showing the ship sailing through serpent currents. The anime managed to stretch that scene out for several minutes without making it feel like they were filling space and without interrupting the story.

Interestingly enough they turned the rest of that page into a 2 episode filler arc about spa island. I really like this method of filling space, but I think the stretch the anime went to with spa island is about my limit.

Maybe but would you prefer if they rushed everything, and then make us sit through weeks of pointless and boring filler episodes, until the manga has enough chapters to continue the series, like Bleach does?

Tbh I wish they would do seasons, like for example 20 episodes a year. This way they could (probably) avoid fillers and stretching. Also they could use more money on quality animation. I still remember W7 arc with horrible animation. But I guess it will never happen, the fate of mainstreams..

wat do u mean water 7 arc had amazing animation compared to all weve seen before that. well if you compare it to know its shit but like the fighting was better and the animation was better. i have no clue why ud say it was horrible animation.

I can't remember well, so I'm not sure if the whole arc had the same crap animation. But the scene where Luffy and Zoro got stuck and Nami starts crying coz of Robin's sacrifice was horrible animated. I can still remember that particular scene really well. The figures were too square-edged, which looked just weird.

I think One Piece has good days and bad days of animation. I remember there was an episode in the Thriller Bark arc that had bad animation (the character figures looked strange) and then the next episode was fine.

The most noticeable crappy animation is when they animate Robin. Often they draw her facial line too thick. Instead look beautiful, she looked really weird. But I haven't notice Franky being too weird, because he's weird already

yeah its not that big of a deal to me. sometimes animation is bad. no problem. but what i cant do without is good subs. so all the props to the folks who put there time into subbing anime

well One piece has some good fillers. G8 is very good as Razh mentioned. I also liked the Ice hunter one. But there are some not worthy talking about.
Also if the one chapter-one episode is worthy for episode like the last one (396), I wish they haste a little in some cases (395 for example)

yes i agree.. some times fillers are so good that you cant tell if its a filler or not.

There are even some "fillers" that tell stories Oda didn't manage to get into the manga for some reason. I heard warship island arc as well as the part about Daddy the sniper in Loguetown are among them...

Warship Island, I believe was complete filler, fully concocted by Toei. The Logue Town filler, however, WAS going to be in the manga, at least the Daddy the Father part of it, and I'd assume the rest of it (Sanji in a cook-off against Carmen and whatever else happened) as well, although Toei's design for Daddy the Father looked pretty different from Oda's design. But that's the only instance of the anime telling stories that the manga had to leave out, as far as I know. I can think of one other instance where the anime filled in a bit which was mentioned in the manga and not shown, namely, Brook getting milk and salt from the kitchen on Thriller Bark, but I don't know how common an occurrence that is, and it's minor stuff anyway.

And as a modly note, this discussion is starting branch off into Theater and Arcade territory. The Mega Convo is primarily for miscellaneous discussions about the manga, so please keep anime-centric discussions in the Theater and Arcade sub-forum.

Maybe Oda needs to know more about hormones since Iva has an impending battle coming up
