The thing that upsets me in the WG is that they let the tenryubito be : I don't understand why that problem (with is the cause of the slave business that bothers them) has not been settled yet. About Ohara, we must not forget that only Spandam's father decided to destroy the island (territory) with his Buster Call's phone and that only Aka Inu decided to kill the civils.
the tenryubito issue I ... I'll never understand that
but who decided to make Spamdam's daddy the chief of the CP9, and gave him the order to led the investigation in Ohara?

To me, the Gorusei is not enough problematic to be called evil. After all, the only immoral things they have directly done is to decide the death of Ohara's historians and the pirates in Thriller Back (which finally not happened).
IMO those 5 geezer are responsible of every single move of the WG/Marines, well ... some events like Croco&Alabasta, Spandam&Robin ... weren't direct order from them, but their job is to look at what others do. (sorry for bad english)

*Ignoring that rant*

Well, the Tenryuubito are the citizens of Mariejois and ancestors of the founders of the World Government. As it seems they don't have anything to do with the Gorousei or the Government so far by default. They just live in wealth, above the law.

The Gorousei are - as the head of the WG - in command of the Marines, the Shichibukai and the Cipher Pol units, so they decide who is the head of each unit. And Spandam seems to have been promoted because of the incident that lead to Tom being captured.

IMO those 5 geezer are responsible of every single move of the WG/Marines, well ... some events like Croco&Alabasta, Spandam&Robin ... weren't direct order from them, but their job is to look at what others do. (sorry for bad english)
The Gorousei are evil because they are mass murderers - IMO it's as simple as that. Ohara was destroyed on their order, and their duty to keep the void century a secret. Though I don't think they took that decision lightly, they did what they thought their duty was - and not what was right to do. That's unveiling the void century if we go by the scientists from Ohara.

It's his freaking job -.-' , don't you not think that after 10 years he would get a hang of it

PS. Bakuman is manga not a documentary
Stop being so foolish. Being a troll you already got all the hate from the OP community. :E

You seem to have no knowledge of how much time drawing Manga consumes. It's for a reason, that Mangaka have nearly no free time, as it just takes TIME to draw precisely, even when he can shift the backgrounds to his helpers, he still does all the characters and movements himself. Comparing his first chapters to the current ones, yeah he got a hang of how to draw, but he also has added more details and is working more exact.

He may can't just take one day off, as he would not be able to complete a chapter. Reality is harsh, even for you it seems. Not granting him one or two weeks of, when having a new born, being such an ass, shame be on you! XD

As much as we know about the Gorousei, we can only assume, that they are the true master minds behind the genocide of all the people in conncetion with reading poneglyphs and the Void Century. It's their guilt anyway, as much as all the other marines in officer status. Even Smoker.-_-

Spandam being the head of CP9: No problem explaining that, as the marines are corrupt for not taking out such psychos.

No, that's like saying all German officers of the Reichswehr were Nazis and approved concentration camps back in the Third Reich. Sorry if I hit Godwin's Law here but to make that statement plausible: I think that's an inappropriate generalization since even in a military organization even high ranked officers aren't informed about all classified information. The more they get to the top the better they are aware of those classified information. (There are lower ranked officiers that have to deal with these information but those are specialists for classified affairs, I guess)

Smoker apparently is -so far- neither aware on the poneglyphs nor the void century - he just seems to be a stubborn head hunter who's taking down pirates and other criminals so far. Only the higher ranked from Vice Admiral on might have a glimpse about the void century, IMHO. If they really knew why they had to destroy Ohara 20 years back then, Akainu and Aokiji are guilty. Saul was a VA as well when he heard about the plans on Ohara and decided to leave the Marines.

I wonder what Smoker would do once he get an insight...

yeah, I know ... this is what I meant with that question :amuse

Agree, they are just the head of an organization that murders/kill more than protect. well, the Ohara incident was under their command and direct orders, but Croco&Alabasta, Spandam&Robin ... they had nothing to do with it, although they are responsible of supervising. :)

That comparison is just WRONG. People have the choice to join the marines. It may was impossible in the Third Reich to avoid or quit them, but it just not that way with the marines. I've never seen on point in OP, that would make them totalitarian like the Nazis. Normal marines may not know about the hardcore upper members, but they are guilty from the point they do anything that goes against reason. Even for knowing that others do and the HQ, would not disapprove with such actions.

That comparison is just WRONG.
Hence comparison: Those never fit to 100% - but there are similarities.

People have the choice to join the marines.
So people had the choice to join the Reichswehr before WWII broke out.

It may was impossible in the Third Reich to avoid or quit them, but it just not that way with the marines.
In times of war, a marine officer may not resign - soldiers and officiers may be killed at any time if they question an order. Onigumo showed that at Enies Lobby, Akainu probably in Marineford some chapters ago.

I've never seen on point in OP, that would make them totalitarian like the Nazis.
Their agenda concerning the Void Century, and their creation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (Pacifista, Search for the Pluton) makes them basically alike those ones. They aren't in detail like them but overall it's similar to the Nazi's mislead concepts of Aryans and Vergeltungswaffen.

Normal marines may not know about the hardcore upper members, but they are guilty from the point they do anything that goes against reason. Even for knowing that others do and the HQ, would not disapprove with such actions.
Sure they are. I never argued about illegal commands on that point. But most Marines just fight for that part of justice - to bring down outlaws like pirates on behalf of legal orders. So probably 90% of the Marine officers and soldiers are not guilty.

And that's what I meant about that comparison to the Reichswehr in the Third Reich. Even after the Gleichschaltung, after the end of WWII only few of the leaders that knew about the crimes were brought down in the denazification in Nuremberg - most of the officers and soldiers of the Reichswehr that fought for them were not.

that's a common misconception though. denazification wasn't done in nuremberg alone, those were only the heads of state, that remained. the others were charged elsewhere by allied forces and long after that by german courts (anyone who has seen/read 'The Reader' knows what I'm talking about).

that aside, comparing manga to reality and especially to anything WWII related doesn't do any good. like we write here so often, it's Oda's own little universe on the one hand, where everything seems possible and on the other had, we have no clue about how the marines are recruited. they might be forced to, with coby being the exception, that proofs the rule.

Truthfully i dont think Oda is trying to use the german WW2 in his manga, just for a little bit. truthfully im surprised he hasnt used ancient japan in his story. he will use all kinds of regimes in his story, to make fun of them and for inspiration. anyway, ONE PIECE IS AWESOME NOW. i am seriously waiting for the 11 supernovas to reappear, i dont care how long itll take.

i sure hope that some more of roger's old crew is revealed.
Me 2!! I think Oda's reserved that for the latter stages of the New World! It would be awesome if we get a batch of chapters, that focus on Gold Rogers era in the Grand Line and his development. I really want to see at least one flashback of a Roger & WB clash!!! Its bugging me what kind of ability Roger had to counter the Quake Quake fruit!!!

i think we will get to see some more flashback of rogers. rogers crew was stated as the strongest ever to sail the grandline, and thats a mouthful. rogers and rayleigh were strong of course, but shanks and buggy were still young at the time. lets say shanks was as strong as luffy now, and buggy was usopp with a bit more hand to hand ability. crocus probably had some moves but who knows. im sure some of the other rogers pirates are still alive.

WHAT IF DADAN IS A FORMER ROGERS PIRATE

i just know some of the beast that were on rogers ship is till out there somewhere. i just oda grants our wishes

Garp always wanted Ace and Luffy to become successful marines, so I think giving them to a former (Rogers!) Pirate would be contra-productive in that aspect.

well, when I started watching the anime, I had had only 8 days left to prepare some presentations and revise my exams, so I decided to finish it as soon as possible to have some time for revision. Although, If I hadn't had exams, I could have ended it before. :facepalm
I was really hooked

but wouldnt that been a strange twist. rogers knew garp would protect ace. rogers said he trusted him like a friend. im sure it was only a few people who knew who ace was. i see what you are saying though, but if rogers was going to tell one of his pirates about ace it would have been rayleigh.

whomever dadan is im sure he has some skill, especially if he taught ace and luffy how to fight. he is no longer in luffy's home town, so i would say he is a former marine or a current pirate

My vote is that Dandan is a former Marine.

Aside from that, I'm really wondering who will be the next female crew member to join Luffy. I had a feeling a few weeks ago that Vivi would show up at the SA and finally join Luffy's crew on their adventures. After the war of course. But now I'm thinking that their next crew member will be a female fish-woman...not a mermaid, but one of the fishman people females. That would add another level of dynamics to luffy's crew in combat abilities and diversity. I mean now they would have someone that actually fights underwater.

i dont think the alabasta kingdom will show up again until the last great battle of one piece as luffy's allies. persnally i think that robin and nami will be the only girls on the team.

a bunch of us has went over this a lot, and for the most part, we have decided on boa or a unintroduced fishman

Quick question, newest episode of the anime says Shiki (main antagonist in the next movie) was the only one who escaped Impel Down, but who was it really? I looked back in the manga but couldn't find it T_T, I thought it was the Fisher Tiger that escaped...
