Lord Rayleigh.. there is a small thing with your theory though - how sure can we be if Roger meant to tell about One Piece even if he wasn't asked that question by a citizen watching the execution ? Was Roger sure enough that someone would ask him or not ?

Great Theory, I had a similar ideas with some some differences; Roger after reaching Raftel found out that One Piece is the culmination of all the lost history together and discovered the true meaning behind the "will of D" which imo is something similar to the Poneglyphs; something to pass down a message and make sure even if they die the will of the ancient kingdom carries on and that one day someone will accomplish their dreams or whatever. Roger couldn't do that because of his ilness. I think the Ds were a particular race but after much breeding and so forth you had giants, humans who were Ds.
One Piece cannot only be the culmination of all the lost history. It must include the Rio Poneglyph but not only.
Otherwise, it'd mean Sengoku, the WG, Roger's old crew, WB and probably Dragon know what One Piece contains, and could change the world without finding it. The problem is that WB explained that only One Piece would provoke the beginning of something huge.

That he decided before his execution or when he was about to die to reveal to the world the existence of One Piece is not very important in my theory which is about what One Piece is and what Roger did before his death.
Anyway, it makes better sense he decided to be executed for something.

Whoa, I was looking at this again, and I hadn't really been sure what they meant:
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/569/12-13/

Now that we have more info, it looks like they were referring to this: http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/576/16-17/

They weren't allowing any scars on his back! That was how they indulged him.
Great match. Can't help but to remember on this page. WB and his crew are legendary.

Onto the OP discussion. Just a note: the Rio Ponoglyph was eve before OP on Raftet.

Hi people ! I've just read the last chapter and the Roger and WB flashback, added to WB's last words made me make a new theory. Enjoy !

THEORY

At the end of his life, the Pirate King Gol D Roger wanted to challenge the world because of what he learnt about the true story and D people. He had the strenght and the will to do it but he did not have the time because of his sickness. That's why he decided to disband his crew : he needed to do something before his death to be sure that someday some people would achieve what he could not achieve.
Roger gathered treasures to create One Piece, the ultimate treasure that would help a pirate crew to do what he cannot do. He hid One Piece in Raftel, the island he discovered with his crew, which is the most difficult place to go, because he needed to be sure that a pirate crew with enough strenght and will would find it, that only a pirate crew able to carry this burden would find One Piece.
After Roger hid it, he went to live for a few months with Portgas D Rouge to enjoy life a last time. When Roger knew he was about to die because of sickness, he gave himself to the marine because he had to make a speech that could be heard by the whole world : he needed to be sure people will know about One Piece and look after it.

The SHs with the help of One Piece will fulfil Gol D Roger's dream, the dream he could not fulfil during his own life.
Makes sense why both Buggy and Shanks wanted to start their own crews and then reenter the Grand Line.

I am reading the war arc again and I notice something here http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/558/08-09/ bottom right panel.
Gecko Moria summons zombie marines out of the ground (they are stitched up like animals and other creatures) and mentions the more bodies he gets the more zombies he can make.
But wasn't Dr. Hogback the one who created the zombie-bodies and Moria only added shadows into them ? If that is so, how can Moria make new zombies here instantly ?

So Moria hide the corpses there to begin? Well, it is complicated to explain, since he says that thing about battlefield

Moria could always had some bodies hidden somewhere and placed some new victims shadows into them. And there is no problem with creating new soldiers, as he can cut off shadows from alle the pirates and marines around him. It's not like he is "weak" or anything and the cutting doesn't take much time nor does it require fancy technique.

As a side note...Marines had a Centaur :3

And I think He just needs to bodies. Hogback just made sure that they will powerful and made some experiments with them. But that's all.

Hi everyone, I'm new on this thread :O

Those Zombie soldiers are definitly not made from scratch at Marineford. As said already, he must have hidden them somewhere, preparing for the big fight. And those stitches are signs that those were bodies manipulated by the Doc. aka the marines did not have Centaurs, it's a Human/horse chimera, much more awesome in Luffys point of view. XD

Awwww, and I wanted centaurs around here and there. Y_Y

Considering that they all knew a war was coming, I bet Moria did his preparations.

I think than Hogback prepared the zombie before, and Moria has give them the shadow of the soldiers or pirates who were defeated.

Nah, shadows die with their original owner, do they not?
I think he was just referring to the fact that he could make additional zombies from the defeated corpses (he no doubt has been up to his shadow stealing ways again) but the soldiers he raised from the ground were prepared beforehand. That's how it seemed to me, anyway.

I doubt what everyone is thinking, it seems likely to me that moria was using corpses from the war, judging by the fact that those zombies were rising from the ice, meaning that they were either corpses from the war, or had been buried under the ice, which is impossible, as the ice was recently frozen, and the seawater before would have killed them.

It seems likely that oda just draws the zombies like that so they aren't so scary, like they would be if he were to draw mutilated corpses, just like how he avoids showing corpses in the battlefield in general, if you look at oda's commentary, its' the same with buggy, and why you can't see his blood and organs when he is cut up, he just thinks it looks less messed up. Their marine uniforms should indicate where the bodies came from, I doubt he killed marines beforehand, and don't see why he would dress them up. Moria most likely took a bunch of shadows from men in the control rooms or somewhere else indoors, and then used them there and to buff himself.

I also think that`s the reason.

But perhaps Absalom and Hogback are on the battlefield as well.
They may be taking advantage of Absalom`s Invisibility-Fruit to run around with Hogback sewing up the fallen soldiers. ;)

On this page http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/576-65/13 on the little panle with Marco it says: "I leave everything to you.".

Does this mean that Whitebeard chose him to be his successor or is it just a missunderstanding due to the translation?

This is neither WB looking at Marco and saying " I leave everything to you" nor a misunderstanding due to translation. It MAY be a foreshadowing that the panel showed Marco just when WB said that but "you" in his sentence meant all of his family.

I also saw the line as being directed at his entire family.

There are only two characters in his "family" that have long been associated with Whitebeard in terms of the manga: Marco and Joz. Since one is currently in a cryo sleep, and thus without emotion, Marco was the best choice for Oda to show that WB is directing this inner monologue at his family.

That said, many have believed Marco could be the one to take over. Of all the WB pirates left, Marco would be the obvious choice to take over the remants of WB's crew (assuming there is a remnant and they all just don't do a 'Roger' crew and retire).

i just watched the latest ep. and i remembered that ace was transported from impol down to marineford by just 5 vc's. whitebeard alone could have annihilated them. was there an actual reason why they didn;t attck them while transporting ace? i can't remember if they said so in the manga.

Ace was transported through the gates of justice from Impel Down that was at calm belt. There was nothing that could be done.
