So Bepo is a bear, and not a human who ate the Bear/whatever fruit, from his comment about female bears.. maybe related to Hiking Bears? They were ace. I don't remember them talking though..
I'm getting curious about Jinbei.
I was re-watching some One Piece the other night, and was surprised how early on he is mentioned. It says he 'fought together' with Arlong on the Grand Line, then when Arlong first arrives in Nami's flashback someone mentions Fishman Pirates breaking up (must be the Sun pirates, from the tattoos and the timeline). And then on the ship to Marineford, Jinbei thinks about Arlong, then puts it out of his mind 'for now'.
Can anyone remember if there's been any other references to Jinbei's connection with Arlong? Sounds like Jinbei could easily have a reason to hold a grudge against Luffy, or could just as easily have fallen out with Arlong and be grateful to the Strawhats for stopping his idiot plans. I've never found a good translation for the early chapters, and can't be sure from the anime.
But his name's been dropped enough that it's clear Jinbei's going to be an even more important character in the future, and implied that Arlong will turn up again (since everyone always does...) And that's even without the Slavery / World Nobles / Boa Hancock / Sun Pirates connection, and the fact that the Nobles have been trying to hunt down the Straw Hats for over a month now. So many damn possibilities. There's enough story in One Piece at the moment for 10 normal manga..
