This is a light novel. For girls. The quality is likely mediocre and the target audience is wrong. Hence why no one notices this.

Two of the stories are romantic, one is bromantic. One isn't. It's Nami's. But in this story, she is just like Luffy. Luffy and Nami are the same, that's constantly emphasized in this story.

The Heroine of this manga is Nami. It has always been Luffy and Nami. They are the promise for infinite adventure, which is the romance that man want to see.

Look at Oda's comment. What impression does this comment give you, next to Nami wearing the Strawhat, kissing an heart through the air?

Actually, if you look at how romance is presented in this story, it's constantly increasing. In the first story arc, there is just one couple, Gyoru the Fisherman and his wife, Chicken. Koushiro's wife afaik only appeared later, and the partners of Morgan and Ririka are absent. The backstory of Zoro does have a romantic undertone though, because Kuina is a girl.

From then on its constantly increasing. I was already visualizing this but stopped, as I am more stuck with compiling the greater mysteries. Will finish once I start touching up my work with rereads.

But since Thriller Bark it's like kaboom and now One Piece is full of love...even though sometimes it gets pretty dark (Absalom, Hogback, Charloss, Van der Decken, Viola...). But heck, Mr. 9 and Miss Monday have kids now! What impression did you get from the Capone Bege coverstory? Why was Shanks at a mysterious wedding?

There is also Gotti and Lola, then we had Aladine and Bege himself during the timeskip. Wether they are married or not is unknown, but Mr. 9 and Miss Monday are a family now. I am also unsure wether Sai and Baby 5 are actually already wed to each other, but they are promised to each other and for that, Sai canceled of his engagement with Uholisia.

There is a lot of hidden romance in One Piece. The love triangle between Hacchan, Kamy and Octopako. Rayleigh and Shakky. Roger and Rogue. Oden and Toki, heck did no one see that the flashback included a love story?

Sanji and Pudding, that's a Strawhat in a story that was definitely romantic. And Oda kind of confirmed Usopp x Kaya in SBS.

Hancock has fallen for Luffy and the dialogue with her dad implies Vivi has also fallen for someone, probably Kohza but keeping it open makes readers think it is Luffy, and indeed, the scene is there, right at the beginning of Drum Island Arc. But that very same arc also openly confirms that Luffy and Nami are the same.

No, he never actually said that. He worded it ambiguously. Oda often words things ambiguous, and yes, there are lies here and there, after all there is no one to stop him. You have to consider what we are talking about, which is fiction. This is storytelling, which is essentially not that different from lying. What makes the better story, the author revealing secrets via fan questions or big surprises at the end of the story?

Any sort of romance is blatantly obvious, i.e. Kyros and Scarlett, Oden and Toki, Sanji and anything that moves


Only Viola's relationship with Doflamingo was kept more vague, but because it's more dirty

It's not like a situation like that would ever apply to any of the Straw Hats
