Why Davy Jones?
In real-world maritime lore, Davy Jones is:
- The keeper of drowned souls (hence "Davy Jones' Locker")
- Associated with curses, death at sea, and ghost ships
- A spectral figure tied to the deep ocean

This aligns perfectly with:
- The soul-centric powers in One Piece (like Brook, Big Mom)
- Mythical Zoan patterns (Kaido’s Azure Dragon, Sengoku’s Buddha)
- The idea of a terrifying, abyssal force tied to the sea

What if Xebec possessed a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit?
A Mythical Zoan fruit that grants control over souls of the dead, dominion over the ocean’s abyss, and the ability to return from death, but at a terrible cost....

Can trap souls of the dead and the dying, especially those who perish at sea. Souls can be stored in “soul anchors” or “chains,” bound to the user's will. Similar to Brook’s and Big Mom’s powers but deeper, he commands the soul, not just manipulates it.
Also reminds me of Moria, who has several corpses of Xebec's crew.

JJK like Abyssal Domain (Ocean’s Curse) : Creates a field where the ocean itself turns against Devil Fruit users: mini-domains of “Davy Jones' Locker”. Within the field, seawater manifests and saps DF powers. Mimics the effect of falling into the sea, even without direct contact.

Also, we can suppose the user can return from death once, or even multiple times, by pulling their soul back from the abyss. However, each resurrection rots their body further, making them more monstrous over time. Echoes Brook’s fruit, but with a darker, more terrifying twist.

OP Power for sure, but why Did Xebec Lose then?
His power was overwhelming but had a fatal flaw:
- His abyssal abilities created a void even his allies feared
- He may have been trying to bind ancient souls or even an ancient weapon to his will
- Roger and Garp defeated him before he could complete the binding, possibly sacrificing something massive in the process

Two Piece time obviously.
The real thing will not be that complicated. Xebec will have the Yami Yami lol

I could buy xebec having a mythical human zoan of the legendary davy jones. Though a quick look at his real life legend suggests a lot of overlap with the powers and names attributed to imu so far. Xebec also does not seem like the sort of character that would deal in souls and such. Though such an ability would perhaps explain BB's status as a person with two souls or something to that effect.

First hint might simply be about a Davy Jones Backfight. It was said to be inventend on Hachi NoSu (Beehive, Pirate Island), so maybe Rocks did use this method to get new members.

It's a bit difficult to imagine rocks using the davy back fight. The crew was too unstable and violent for any of them to stick to such terms, let alone playing games to win executives.

The fight could be anything though so wouldn't dismiss it so quickly. Rocks could have earned their respect through winning tough games that they all thought they had in the bag. And once under him even if unstable and violent, Rocks strength alone would hold them together. That's why the crew only broke apart after his death and not while alive.

Exactly the fact that the Davy Backfight was introduced by a bunch of Paradise pirates does not mean the original Davy Backfight was on the same wishy-washy level. So chances are high it was more of a serious deathmatch and less childgame like.

From what we've seen it's a bit of a stretch that rocks had the respect of any of the pirates that were part of the crew. Even when attacking god valley we heard at least WB rejecting the notion that Xebec was in charge. At least to me rocks seems to operated like BB's crew does... folk united by common interest rather than by respect or friendship. And of course once rocks broke down the yonko went on to created dramatically different crews.

Ehhhhh… realistically the hints do make sense. They might be a reach or dumb but it does make sense. I feel it’s their way of giving us SOMETHING without spoiling it for whatever reason.

I had totally forgotten that Hachinosou was both the old rocks playground AND where the Davy Backfight originated. Also, Redon seems to be hinting that Rocks "made an offer that couldn't be refused" which could align with a Davy Backfight.

It might be common interest but to me its clear Rocks set the vision and agenda of the crew. He also seems to be respected in his strength since the rest of them are following him. The world knew them as the Rocks pirates which clearly shows he is the leader in some capacity. They don't have to like or be friends with Rocks for any of this to work. Even in BB crew its clear they respect Teach's strength and vision.

Like usual spoilers are full hype piece / peak piece so I take everything with a grain of salt.

I think the talk of Davy Jones = Davy Back fights is a weird bit of logical reasoning personally, but I've been wrong before.

It seems to be more of the Disney DJ = he comes back every 10 years. So maybe Xebec was sentenced to sea but will return... now? It also lines up with an "offer you can't refuse". In POTC pretty sure Will Turner 'had' to become the next DJ.
