Zoro handling kizaru alone is a bit of a stretch but he is definitely positioned to be the first one to engage the marines. The most likely scenario is a naval battle rather than one v one. Brook and zoro are probably not not equipped to hold of as many battleships as the marines can gather right now.
I could see Brook running around water freezing ships and cannons and Zoro using that opportunity to run around slicing them apart.

Ryokugyu said it would be humiliating for him to loose to a few Yonko subordinates like King or Queen.

So an Admiral should still be out of Zoro's league

Don't see why Zoro can't surpass Kizaru this arc Luffy too strong for Kiazru.
The author can make Zoro as powerful as he wants, just like he made Luffy strong enough to fight Kaido.

But why Zoro should evolve so much in Egghead arc specifically?

There's plenty of people left that could be a challenge to Luffy. G5 "overcame the Strongest Creature in the World" out of like half a dozen different caveats. It wasn't 1v1-No-Items-Final-Destination, Kaidou went through a whole-ass gauntlet- including Luffy himself several times- before willingly choosing to take Vajrang Gun head on even though he didn't have to. Kizaru showing up is a big deal, especially considering I and a lot of people consider his logia to be the strongest in the series if he ever chooses to go full out.

People are vastly overestimating Luffy now, which is funny considering where things were last year. He's extremely greenhorn with his powers at this point- awakened Luffy fought for a few minutes with Lucci, and immediately powered down to old man mode. Lucci awakened, while taking horrific damage that was "making him lose consciousness (like in the old days)", powered down and was completely fine. Kizaru has decades of experience and is frankly a huge wild card in this conflict.
Despite Kizaru’s DF, the skill also means bigger role to the user. Kizaru shows nothing special this far, he’s figured to be hit-run character when comes to a fight with top-tier enemies. There are examples of smart DF user threating more than natural powerful one.

But Admiral is admiral. The fight will be heavier than Lucci, but least than Kaidou. Kizaru will be worthy opponent, but not the kicking ass one

So... how long before it's shown that Luffy will get an ass kicking wake up call despite having Gear 5th?
Yeah? Why do you think Luffy needs a wake-up call?

Yeah, sure. And zoro can probably simply spam his ranged slashes at fools but that's not the issue. And it's also irrelevant. It's but a small factor in a larger battle. Even a single battleship is still essentially a floating fortress covered in canons. Now we are talking about a whole fleet spearheaded by an admiral, maybe garp and god knows who else.

I just think back to that time on Sabaody not too long after getting new gears where the stakes got raised and reinforces how he’ll get plenty of new challenges regardless. Otherwise things would get boring. lol

You're forgetting the giant sea robots.

I am pretty sure next serious fight of Luffy will be a struggle, just fighting a mediacore admiral isn't that. If this was Akainu, then maybe... Also at this point of story losing to someone who plot-wise should be at same level as luffy or lower, makes no sense. Possible super strong enemies for luffy are still out there:
-BB
-Gorosei / Imu
-Shanks

Having another power up, before final arc would also make no sense for Luffy. I am pretty sure Luffy will get one more, but it will be in final fight. The possibility to either awaken Nika fruit further or master haki even more.

Hmmm, more VAs? That's at least 2 with garp and doll. A few more and there's enough for a buster call. Vegapunk aims to escape egghead island but if the place, any by extension his brain, is going to be buster called then perhaps his plans will change.

Idk, almost every fight feel mediocre once the mc has already beaten the strongest creature alive. This is why Lucci getting up next frame with bandages doesn’t make much sense.

Vice Admiral Doll in the chapter? 👀
Would make sense given Helmeppo was talking how they were so close to Egghead to get some seraphims as aide.

Interesting how so many are sleeping on Kizaru when there's a strong argument for him being stronger than Aokiji:

Second to be revealed.
Seated in the silver position on a podium.
Second to move during the Summit War.
Positioned against 1YC: Marco and Beckman.
The only one to not get injured during the war.

I get ya but it was mid-story, and there was a need to showcase just how different the level in the NW was.
Now Luffy has gotten his ass kicked repeatedly (even post-TS) and been put in his place more often than any shonen hero I know of, and I don’t think there’s a need to have him get whopped again, except maybe against the very last bosses (Imu/BB if that’s what we’re heading towards).
Doesn’t mean there can't be a challenge or two along the way though

Kizaru has been seen to take less damage than either Aokiji or Akainu in the story, overall. And he was up against commanders and Rayleigh. of course Akainu was up against WB but still.
Anyway the OG admirals are classy, stylish, badass and I would hate for Kizaru to be anything less than a major powerhouse and a challenge to Luffy

I mean, Zoro doesn't have to beat Kizaru, but at least be able to fight against / hold his own. He managed to hold his own and injure Kaidou, as well as hold back the attack of 2 yonkou combined. Could Kizaru have done that? Probably, at what cost?

To me, Zoro holding back Kizaru until more reinforcements arrive would be brilliant. This is the enemy that the SH could band together to defeat just like they did in the past with Oars and Pacifista.

I am not sure that evidences how kizaru compares to the other admirals tbh. If we go by pre timeskip stuff I would argue the manga framed the 3 original admirals as being in the same ballpark. And then we get to the fight between akainu and aokiji... They fought for 10 consecutive days. That doesn't exactly scream akainu being leagues ahead or even somewhat ahead of aokiji. A 10 day fight sounds more like a cointoss tbh. While it's true that aokiji was permanently maimed during the fight and akainu wasn't the significance of this is unclear if we don't know how the fight actually played out. And finally, we don't know how each admiral has evolved since the timeskip. Plotwise I would argue that the story probably requires akainu to be an actual match to a fully realized yonko which is probably just short of where he was 2 years ago. It's not necessarily the case that the story requires aokiji and kizaru to have kept up. it is worth noting that what probably kept kizaru out of consideration for sengoku's succesor is his overall demeanor and personality rather than his actual strength. Given that he seems relatively indifferent and careless to some extent. Outside of that, IMO there's no doubt that kizaru holds a special position among the current iteration of admirals, being the most sr of them.
