I just gotta say, I don't understand doing all this for Koby POST TIMESKIP, because say Marineford 2.0 here plays out and Garp dies, Koby is saved and starts training, there's no way he's getting Garp/Luffy level without ANOTHER two year timeskip!

If this was Smoker, than yeah I can see him doing it in time for the end, because Oda has screw Smoker over post timeskip and he needs a win, but Koby NOW when we're in the "final saga", can't see it

This is a character that was present in the first chapter of the manga for whom oda has jumped through hops to make him into a pretty high ranked marines for someone who 2 years ago had zero power. He isn't exactly a powerhouse but the guy became a captain of the marines in just over 2 years. More important is his status as a hero which comes with weird political implications.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a flashback of koby punching a ship next to garp soon.

Perona's there too and her ability is INSANELY powerful. It might be able to be initially resisted via haki, but once a victim is 'infected' with the horohoro despair, they shouldn't be able to use haki.

The battleship sandbag thing was almost certainly a set-up to show somebody doing to Pizarro what was done to those ships. Coby is easily the biggest contender, seeing as Garp is laid out and Kuzan is still (probably) undercover. Given the setting, it'd be really weird for somebody to sneak/blitz past thousands of pirates just for a dramatic last-second save, but it wouldn't be the first time Oda said "to hell with logistics, dramatic rescue scene go!"
