the fact vergo is not there is quite a bad thing, since in this volume he stopped shining. yet,I do believe he will appear again,so maybe we will see him in the next covers. and it's cool that there are a lot of important characters, but it's too many! tashigi, the children, momonosuke, could have been left out, putting vergo there!

Last few covers have been similar too me, just a bunch of characters no real interesting aspect to them. Some previous covers were more creative, I do hope that we are getting Dofla in the next cover, stuff later is all about him. :XD

Sometime Oda should learn from Kubo how to make simple covers...

Please, no. This one may be overcrowded, but I never want to see Oda draw a plain, drab, boring, single-colored, close-up of a face like Bleach's volume 58.

totally agreed! in this,Kishimoto is the best one amongst the 3: not too messy, not too poor. naruto's covers depend on the situation in the manga, they can have 2 characters, or 10!

Well to me, Bleach cover is hundredth time better than this one. It's not only overcrowded but it has no organization or focus. Bleach cover is clear, the color matches the title and the drawing is only plain and boring because you want it to be. In what way is it more boring than a set of characters put together randomly ?

Obviously not for me.

It's not only overcrowded but it has no organization or focus.
I don't wholly disagree, but what exactly should it do to be more focused? I think it does a better job at expressing the contents of the volume than just a close up picture of Yamamoto's head for the the Bleach volume.

Bleach cover is clear, the color matches the title
The cover is clear? Clear in what? That Yamamoto is featured within? I could say the same thing for all the characters on the cover of One Piece's volume. The color matches the title? So what? That makes it good?

and the drawing is only plain and boring because you want it to be.
This doesn't make sense. Of course I don't want it to be plain and boring. I'd love for it to be exciting, dynamic, detailed and colorful. It's clearly not though. It's just a red hued face.

In what way is it more boring than a set of characters put together randomly ?
The One Piece cover has a myriad of colors and interesting characters. Put together randomly? All those characters were featured in the volume contents. I fail to see how they are random. If Oda decided to put Buggy on the cover, that would be random. If you are referring to their placement/positions, how would you have placed them so that they aren't random? From tallest to shortest? In order of appearance? Like I said, Bleach's cover is just a red hued face on a white background. Pretty boring if you ask me.

Not really trying to get into an aesthetics argument, but whatever. Point being, Oda should be Oda and Kubo should be Kubo. Neither needs to take lessons from the other.

Re: One Piece Volume Cover thread! (Latest: Vol. 68)

To me having many things and many color doesn't make something good. Then what to say of Assassination classroom covers then ? Covers are not to indicates what is happening in the volume but to incitate to make you buy the volume.
Bleach cover is clear in the sense that you understand it immediately making it easy to recognize.
One piece cover is random. It's random characters with random sizes, looking in the random directions.
And I fail to understand why having no color and be a close up makes something boring. To me the drawing is quite powerful and attractive.
But yeah Oda can continue to do Oda but repeating always the same kind of cover is what I would call boring.

To me, it doesn't make it bad.

Then what to say of Assassination classroom covers then ?
The alien teacher's face for the 3rd(?) time in a row is bordering on uncreative.

Covers are not to indicates what is happening in the volume but to incitate to make you buy the volume.
One Piece's makes me want to buy the volume.

Bleach cover is clear in the sense that you understand it immediately making it easy to recognize.
I understand One Piece's cover perfectly.

One piece cover is random. It's random characters with random sizes, looking in the random directions.
You're not making sense. I could say the same thing about Bleach's cover. Kubo randomly chose Yamamoto out of all the characters featured in the volume, and picked a random size to draw him and a random direction for him to look in and picked a random color to draw him in. You don't know why Oda decided to pick those characters and why he decided to draw them in those particular sizes and what directions they were looking in. He could have done it very deliberately for all we know. So you can't really call it random.

And I fail to understand why having no color and be a close up makes something boring. To me the drawing is quite powerful and attractive.
Well, aesthetics are very much a matter of opinion and vary greatly among different people. Which is great since we get all kinds of different types of art because of this. I respect your opinion, but I don't feel the same way. I prefer more dynamic and lively art.

But yeah Oda can continue to do Oda but repeating always the same kind of cover is what I would call boring.
By that logic, you should dislike this latest Bleach cover(or even all the Bleach covers). Look at volumes 56-58. They each feature one character tinted with a different color. This is the same thing 3 times in a row. And before that, most all of Bleach's covers that I can recall still feature just one character posing, but at least he was a bit more colorful in those. How can you say Oda is repeating the same kind of cover and dislike them because of that, but praise Kubo for being even more repetitive?

I don't know but I think Oda's style of doing volume covers mainly depends on the fact that he still is making this look more of a comic for kids and to attract them to read it. With all the colors and dynamics, a 10-year old boy would more likely buy a One Piece volume than that of Bleach.

Re: One Piece Volume Cover thread! (Latest: Vol. 68)

Hmmm... I absolutely love the Bleach covers.
I would say One Piece comes second since I own the Marineford Volume and the inking looks fantastic in comparison to my Naruto volumes.
Although some can be bland, I think the simplism in the cover is nice and just keeps the story vague.
Granted many people may not want such a vague cover lol.

Oda has gotten a little repetitive with covers as it is always Luffy with just current rivals/enemies/allies. And Luffy taking a stance somewhere main in the picture.
Also, the detail in the characer's face when drawn is always extremely high with Kubo.
Its not like we get extremely detailed facial color close-ups from Oda. So I wouldn't say Bleach's covers are boring.

I think Bakuman have the best in terms of art but whatever.

Re: One Piece Volume Cover thread! (Latest: Vol. 68)

It's mostly personal preference, neither of the manga's have boring covers per-say, people just tend to prefer different things so naturally you can't really say objectively which one is better. I personally prefer Oda's covers, my favorites have to be volume 58, Volume 68 & Volume 65, mainly because of the combination of colors and characters and the general layout of the covers.

You are asking redon, why he put his name on there? oO And yes of course he will have the orignial HQ, but that would compromise the very reason of watermarking it.^^ Here is another version from pirateboard.net though.
