Info Pactio Cards: Database & Discussion (Based On The Manga)

One of the most important points of this manga is the Pactio cards & the artifacts which we see appear along with it. I have seen many places around the net but i never found a correct amount of info regarding the pactio cards. So after collecting many info form many sources (including the manga story itself), i was finally able to create this database based on the pactio cards appeared in the manga till now. I am creating this thread for the sole purpose that people would find it easy to find the info's about the pactio cards they wish to search about.

Along with acting as the database for the pactio card info's, this thread will also be used to discuss about the cards as well as for speculations of future pactio cards to appear in the manga & the artifacts along with it.

What is a Contract?

A contract is a form of "partnership" between two (or more) individuals which is used by the Magic/Ki users in the MSN Universe. The contract is done so that the individual is able to help the Magic/Ki users during combat. There are many forms of contract in the MSN Universe, but the known ones for now are,

Doll Contract - used by Doll Masters.
Demon/Spirit Contract (Zenki & Goki) - used mostly by Charm Users to summon Demons or Spirits to help in combat.
Pactio - used mostly by Western Mages & in some cases by Ki users.

This thread Deals with the "Pactio" form of Contract.

What is Pactio?

Pactio is a form of contract which is most commonly used by the Western Mages in the MSN Universe. This contract is formed by a 'Magister Magi' (referring to male master ‘magicians’/‘ki users’) or 'Magistra Magi' (referring to female master ‘magicians’/‘ki users’) with a person who takes the role of a 'Minister Magi' or 'Ministra Magi'. 'Minister/Ministra' is originally a Latin word meaning 'Servant'.
This contract is formed mainly so that the 'Minister/Ministra' is able to help the 'Magister/Magistra' in any way it can (though traditionally its purpose is to support/protect the 'Magister/Magistra' during battles so that they can cast there spells effectively without any interference).
This contract is not only helpful to the 'Magister Magi/Magistra Magi', it also helps the 'Minister Magi/Ministra Magi' in battle as some of the magical power of the 'Magister/Magistra' is transferred into the 'Minister/Ministra' which increases & improves there natural capabilities by an average of ten times there normal abilities.

What is the "Proof Of Contract"?

When the 'Pactio' is formed, a card is created as the proof of the contract. This card is mostly called as the "Pactio Card", but sometimes it is also referred as the "Artifact Card" which can be considered to be a more powerful version of the pactio card.

What is a “Pactio Card” & a “Artifact Card”?

The Pactio Card's are not merely the proof of contract. It has many different functions which helps the 'Minister/Ministra'.
These cards allow telepathic communication between the users of the cards. It also allow the 'Magister/Magistra' to summon the 'Minister/Ministra' at anytime (though the function of this ability seems to be limited for a maximum distance of 10 km according to Chachamaru).
These Pactio cards are made in two copies, one being the master copy which belongs to the 'Magister/Magistra' & the other is kept by the 'Minister/Ministra' which enables him to borrow the magical energy from the 'Magister/Magistra' & for the telepathic communication.
Sometimes though when a contract is formed, there is a chance that the 'Minister/Ministra' maybe granted a "artifact" based on there own abilities, which helps in the field of expertise of the 'Minister/Ministra'. When such an item is granted, the pactio card is also referred as an 'Artifact Card'. The artifact can be summoned by the 'Magister/Magistra' for the 'Minister/Ministra' to use or else the 'Minister/Ministra' can him/her-self summon it whenever they want by using there copy of the pactio/artifact card.

What is an Artifact?

An artifact is an item which is granted to the 'Minister/Ministra' when a pactio is formed. The artifact which the 'Minister/Ministra' receives is based on there abilities, personalities & is related to there field expertise & can only be used by them (or 'him/her'-self allow other person to use them).
To summon the artifact the 'Minister/Ministra' has to invoke the phrase "Adeat" which means 'come forth' in Latin which causes the 'Minister/Ministra' card copy to transform into there artifact. To return the artifact in its original card form they have to invoke the phrase "Abeat" which means 'vanish' in Latin.
The 'Magister/Magistra' also has the ability to summon the 'Minister/Ministra' artifact to give it to them to use it in battle if a copy card is not present with the 'Minister/Ministra'.

How a Pactio is Formed?

Presently only one method is known which is used to form a pactio (though there seems to be many other ways to do it but they are unknown at the present moment) and that is in the form of a Kiss (to the lips) while a magical circle specially designed for the formation of the pactio is active.

Other Points about the 'Pactio'/'Pactio Card'/‘Artifact Card’.

- The pactio cards also has some other functions too (but most of them are unknown at the moment), like blocking some incoming magical attacks. It also allows the 'Minister/Ministra' to upload a number of different outfits into the pactio cards including the default ones.

- The pactio has the ability to bring out the latent abilities of the 'Minister/Ministra' which they have in them.

- If the 'Magister/Magistra' with whom the 'Minister/Ministra' has made the pactio dies, then the contract gets broken automatically & the pactio card dies along with it thus the 'Minister/Ministra' loses all there boosted abilities along with there artifact which they gained when the contract was formed.

- A Temporary Pactio can be terminated by the 'Magister/Magistra' whenever he wants, but the requirement for doing that is unknown. It is also unknown whether a Permanent Pactio can be terminated or not.

- A pactio can also be formed in the reverse order were the 'Magister/Magistra' of the previous pactio can become the 'Minister/Ministra' for the new pactio & the 'Minister/Ministra' can become the 'Magister/Magistra'. This is done depending on how the Magical Circle is written.

- A 'Minister/Ministra' can also form Pactio’s with more than one 'Magister/Magistra'. In that case if the person receives a artifact, it is usually the same as the one he had previously but sometimes there is a chance that the artifact received though multiple pactio’s might also be different for that said 'Minister/Ministra'. This is mostly based on the relationship between those people at the moment of the contract formation.

- It is mostly speculated that to receive a artifact card during the contract formation, it is necessary that the 'Magister/Magistra' has a high amount of Magical/Ki capacity. If the said 'Magister/Magistra' doesn’t have the required amount then the artifact won’t be granted. The rarity of the artifact item is also based on the power of the 'Magister/Magistra' Magical/Ki capacity (the more capacity the magic/ki user has, the rarer the artifact is granted).

Levels of Pactio Formation.

There are three levels of pactio formation known at the present moment which are "Mistake", "Temporary" and "Permanent".

The weakest one of all these is the "Mistake" ones which gives out a "Joke Pactio Card". These pactio don't allow any major abilities nor give a artifact to the 'Minister/Ministra' except for a small boost in there power. The pictures in the joke cards are all comically drawn. These cards are formed when an mistake is done during the pactio formation ceremony such as improper kiss, etc

Both the "Temporary" and "Permanent" pactio's are similar in many ways except for the amount of power gained by the 'Minister/Ministra' & the method of forming them.
Though many "Temporary" pactio cards have appeared in the manga so far, information about the "Permanent" pactio cards are still in mystery.

Description: This artifact has two forms, 'Harisen' (a giant fan) & a Giant Sword. This artifact has the ability to exorcize demons with a single swipe & has the ability to destroy any sort of magical weapons or nullify any type of magical defenses or attacks (which is based on the ability of the user to react to things). Because of this it can be considered to be one of the most powerful & dangerous weapons in the Magical World. Though the 'Harisen' is useless against non-magical objects/things, the sword is able to cleave through rocks very easily (though this power is mostly based on the users own strength). The artifact also has the ability to dispel magic or ki related technique’s with ease.

The reason Asuna couldn’t summon the 'Giant Sword' form initially was because she was an unable to control her powers.

Artifact: Diarium Ejus

Description: This artifact is in the form of a diary. It has the ability to sense the inner thoughts of people & display it in the diary in the forms of words & images (the form of the images displayed in the diary is based on the personality of the user). To use this artifact the user has to first know the name of the person whose mind she wishes to read. This book can accurately read the (real-time) thoughts of the person within 7.5m radius (the accuracy decreases as distance increases).

Based on the skill of the user in using this artifact, they can even summon multiple miniature diary’s at once which can read the mind’s of the targeted person but it would be in simple form (as opposed to the main diary which gives a detailed information).

To get more accurate results on things the target is not thinking about at that given moment, it is recommended that the user ask a question relating to the required subject to the targeted person & the user would get the answer to his desired question whether the target answers the users question or not.

Because of the nature of this artifact, it is almost impossible for a person to lie to the user of this artifact (while the artifact is being used). The only exception to this is that when the targeted person is either having ‘Split Personalities’ or else using the artifact “Signum Biolegens”. This is because in both those cases, the user has difficulties in pointing out the real target for the diary (if the user doesn’t know there real names) and hence the diary would not give results according to the users requirement.

If no name is spoken, then the diary reads the thoughts of the user as default.

According to the manga story, it seems that this artifact is a rare tome in the 'World Pactio Organization' and is numbered "Rare Tomes 16784638". It was created by a Great Mage named "Shantoto". This artifact is considered as a legendary artifact & in the wrong hands it would be a very dangerous item.

The difference between ‘Mind-Reading Magic’ and ‘Diarium Ejus’ is that there is a need for physical contact when using ‘Mind-Reading Magic’ while the mage is asking the target a question but the answer received is only read as a vague impression of what his reaction was to the asked question.
But in the case of ‘Diarium Ejus’, the user can read the accurate sentences of what the target is thinking without the need of any physical contact with the bonus of displaying an image of it.

Description: This artifact is in the form of a small blade (Wakizashi) which is used by Setsuna as an extra blade for her battle. It has the ability to multiply to 16 copies of itself & can be used individually to target the enemy by the user’s thoughts. It can also be used by Setsuna for performing her “Shinmeiryuu” techniques as well (like the “Inatsurubi no Katama” technique).

Description: This artifact is in the form of two fans named “Flabellum Euri” & “Flabellum Australe”.

“Flabellum Euri” has the ability to heal any sort of injuries (be it minor, serious or fatal) within a period of 3 minutes (however it is mentioned by Konoka that she can't heal if the person in question got crushed.
Where as “Flabellum Australe” has the ability to cure any sort of illness or alignments such as “Petrification” (even semi-permanent ones) within a period of 30 minutes. These two artifacts can also be used as an medium (instead of a wand) for using other healing/curing spells as well.

The power of this artifact is so great that it can heal a heavily injured dragon (of the most powerful kind) very easily (though most of it is based on the users own magical power). But there are some drawbacks to this artifact, first of all Konoka can use the full healing ability only once a day (though this might change as the user gets more skilled in using the artifact) & second she has to be in a position where she can touch the person who has to be healed/cured to use her ability. The artifact can also be used to heal/cure multiple targets but the effects to heal/cure will decrease with each additional target.

Description: This artifact is in the form of a book. It can be described as a 'Magic Encyclopedia' or 'The Compendium of Magicology'. It has the ability to display the answer of almost any question the user may have about magic (it is able to display the information in the form of illusionary pages or holographic pages). According to Yue, the amount of information in this book is equivalent to an entire library branch. It also appears to connect itself to 'Maho-Net' and automatically updates itself regularly but because of this if ever an older contents is overwritten or updated then the older content would be lost & cannot be retrieved.

Description: This artifact is in the form of a sketchbook, inkwell & a quill. It has the ability to bring life to anything thing that is drawn in the sketchbook (in simple golem form). According to Chamo, this artifact is used for easy summoning of any level of Golems (level is primarily based on the ability of the user's drawing skills). The only known drawback of this artifact is that, 1% of the damage which the golems take would be transferred back to the user.

Description: This artifact is in the form of a 'Heart-Topped' Wand. Its main ability is to allow the user & any other people around the user to enter cyberspace (only the mind enters the cyberspace and the physical body remains in the real-world in a trance-like state).
This artifact also allows her to control & command the 'Seven Electronic Spirit Cluster Regiment Leaders' which are in the form of mice. These spirits has the ability to manipulate data in any way the user wants. These spirits can also aid the user in the physical world as well (such as acting as a camera to help Chisame view things from far away using her laptop) though for them to have this physical form they would need a active electrical device nearby to have sufficient power to support there physical form. It also allows the user to freely hack into practically any type of system based on the abilities of the user. This artifact also has the ability to update its manipulative & hacking abilities by using many different sources like Chao's future technologies.

Description: This artifact creates up to six small golem cameras that she is able to manipulate and send to any part of the world, allowing her to search for information or use it for surveillance & search and to some extent as a means of communicating as well. They have no combat ability and are used specifically for intelligence gathering and relaying. They also have restrictions on where they can enter (like for example, they can’t enter private places with high magical security levels), and have limited stealth capabilities.

Description: This artifact is in the form of a worn-out piece of black coloured cloth. This artifact contains an alternate dimension (or pocket space) in itself which contains a house included with a kitchen & everything which would be ideal to hide or safeguard people in case of emergency. Also if the user is entering inside the alternate dimension him/her self then the cloth would turn invisible so in order to stop enemies for entering the alternate dimension.
This artifact seems to be useful in many ways based on the user’s abilities like sending enemies Magical/Energy attacks to the alternate plain (thus saving them from some fatal damage). Also it could be used to save people who are in danger just by simply absorbing them in it & then instantly releasing them in a safe place or area.

Since the contract of Kaede with Negi is a Temporary one, there is a time-limit to how long a person can stay inside the “Tengu no Kakuremino”.

Artifact: Type-2130 Chao Bao Zi Satellite Support System: Al-Iskandariya ("Catwings")

Description: This artifact is a combination of an "Orbital Satellite Cannon" and a "Hand-Held Laser Designator". Both the 'Satellite' & the 'Designator' have a 'Cat-like' design (most probably related to Chachamaru's fondness to cats).

Upon summoning of the artifact, Chachamaru uses the 'Designator' to target the ‘enemy/object’ to be destroyed & then the cannon charges and fires (though at this point it is unknown what type of energy source the Cannon uses to attack, but it is speculated that it might be using a combination of both magical & scientifical energy source just like Chachamaru herself).

The power of this artifact is very great & highly destructive (being able to easily destroy a "Giant Summoned Beast" summoned by Dynamis). Because of the highly destructive nature of this artifact, it can mainly be used for outdoor attacks (from what is to be understood by watching its function).

According to Chachamaru this artifact was created by 'Chao Lingshen' and through the 'power of pactio formation' was brought from the future (though how it is done is still not clear).

It is speculated that the “Catwings” is a fusion of Magical applications & Scientific technologies much like how Chachamaru was created as it uses Magical Energy to power its Energy Cannon (which isn’t Mana based).

This drug has the ability to drastically boost the recipients 'reaction-time', 'senses', 'speed', 'power' and 'other physical capabilities'.

Description: This artifact is in the form of magical guns. These guns have the ability to shoot different types of bullet which have special properties.
One of those known bullets is the “Spirit Form Canceller Bullet” which can force a person to lose there ‘Spirit Form’ temporarily. For example, with this bullet, Yuuna forced Homura out of her Salamandra (Spirit) form temporarily.

There seems to be some sort of history about this artifact which is unknown at the moment.

Description: Makie’s pactio is sort of a special one considering that it gave her basically a collection of 5 different artifacts. They are as follows;

#1: Liberum Lemniscus - which is translated as "Unbounded Ribbon". The form of this artifact is that of a 'Gymnastics Ribbon'.
As the translated name suggest, this artifact has the ability to stretch very long distances and can grab/catch objects with very little effort.

#2: Frango Stipes - which is translated as "Pulverising Club". The form of this artifact is that of a 'Gymnastics Baton'.
These baton's have the ability to change sizes to large mace-like clubs and can be summon in multiple quantities as well (the maximum known as of yet is '5').
This baton’s can be used for melee attacks and seems to have quite the destructive power.

#3: Bombes Globus - which is translated as "Bombing Ball". The form of this artifact is that of a 'Gymnastics Ball'.
The abilities of this artifact is unknown as of yet but the translated name seems to suggest that it is used as a bomb.

The other two artifacts are unknown as of yet.

Description: This artifact is in the form of a collection of books along with a special magical bookmark. The books in the artifact contain the life history (biography) of a person created by the user. When the bookmark is used in connection with the books, the user is able to transform into a clone of the person on whom the book is created & is able to have all the powers the person had at the time the book was created (though the user personality is not changed). This artifact lacks usefulness according to Albireo as the amount of time he his able to remained transformed is only few minutes for those whose power surpasses his own & since most other people are weaker to him it is useless for him to transform into them.
The other ability of this artifact is to recreate a specific individual's perfect clone along with its personality, memories, as well as emotion at the moment the book was created which is known as 'Total Replay of Complete Personality'. This ability has a time limit of only 10 minutes & is for one-time use only as the magical biography book will lose its powers & become a plain biography book. This ability according to Albireo can also be called as a 'Living Will'.

Description: The artifact seems to be in the form of a "Bookmark" and is said to have been created by "Fate" himself though it took him more than 10 years to perfect it.

A 'Direct Kiss' to the targeted person by the user is needed to activate the ability of this artifact (which is described below).

This artifact has the ability to not merely reproduce the targeted person’s outer appearance, it even reproduces the targeted person's own personality. In other words it can be said to be a perfect transformation ability & the ultimate substitution technique. Even people close to the targeted person would not be able to distinguish between both of the persons, as even the user of this artifact does not remember her true self & believes to be the person to whom she has transformed. Because of this it can be said to be the artifacts greatest advantage and also its greatest weakness as well.
As the user doesn't even remember her true-self it can get affected by the targeted person's emotion, & because of this if the user falls in love with a person whom the targeted person loves or cares in the transformed state, the transformation would be broken & the users identity revealed.
The effects of the artifact can also be related to a person having ”Split Personality”, were the user in the ‘hidden personality’ and the targeted persons split personality takes the role of the ‘outer personality’. Both of the personalities is active at the same time but the split one doesn't know the existence of the real one and lives her life like how the targeted person lived but the real one knows all the things which is happening to the split personality.

The other weak point regarding the artifact including the one mentioned before is that the artifact cannot copy the targeted person’s special abilities. Also if the targeted person had an artifact granted to them, though the user of this artifact can copy the shape of the artifact but they cannot copy its abilities.

Because of the unique nature of this artifacts working, it is the only known artifact which is able to misguide the user of the artifact “Diarium Ejus”.
