Hello, friends… Today ‘m really sad… Look at my sig, it explains everything… T__T
That’s why the reviews came late this week, sniff.. Well, nevermind, let’s go see a little brat performing such awesome jutsu in this chapter :XD

The Edited Manga used is from SleepyFans

Naruto 428 - Conversation

Konohamaru 1 X 0 Pain

And here we go: Not the most expected battle, of course. Konohamaru must fight against Hell Pain. And I must say, he’s putting a good match, making some important observations about the abilities of Pain, mainly how to stay away from him in order to avoid his jutsu. That kick he’s avoided reminds so much Kakashi dodging Yahiko’s kick. For a nin that hit the head on a wall and was trembling of fear, certainly his acts now are admirable. If there’s some contradiction about this fight, it’s about the characterization of Konohamaru. Assuming this fight was his first real one (and seems that way), then Kono just stepped from a coward child to a nin that was able to land a hit on Pain. The main difference about my statement posted in my previous review was that, when surrounded by fear, a person try to look strong, not that the person will be literally strong.

Let’s take a look on Konohamaru since the beginning of the series. He was always a comedic, funny, pampered character. Almost like a “joke” character, always using those pervy jutsus. And suddenly he turns to be a nin who’s fighting equally against Pain and even being able to deliver a direct rasengan. That being said, Kono has needed more development about the intermediary process, the process about being a true nin through missions, experience. Kishimoto just skipped that part, and he has jumped from the basic to advanced suddenly. It’s not the fact he has learned Rasengan (which is perfectly acceptable, after re-reading the chapter some times, I’ve reached this conclusion, but I’ll comment about it later), but the circunstances involved on Kono’s fight.

OK, now gimme a kiss, a hug…

Hell’s abilities were better explained: Once the opponent is grabbed, Enma will appear for the judgment. Essentially this makes Hell a close range fighter, as he needs to grab the opponent. And only the grabbed person will see Enma. Whether it’s a genjutsu or not we don’t know, but the fact is that Enma will judge even the people that are telling the truth. Nevertheless, now it’s time to judge Konomamaru, and not even Ebisu was able to do a thing to protect him. But well, fortunately, that Kono was just a bunshin, and Hell was hit by Rasengan. RASENGAN? But Naruto isn’t in Konoha right now, how is this possible? This time Kono was the one performing RSG. At first, so many people were pissed off with this (including me), but with a further understanding of the chapter, this wasn’t as illogical as it could be.

I believe the Rasengan training took place shortly after Naruto returning from his journey to meet Tsunade. This proves Naruto’s awesomeness, to teach such jutsu in a short period of time. Rasengan is an A rank jutsu, thus shouldn’t be learned easily, but from what we can conclude, Naruto was very objective while teaching the fundamentals of the jutsu. Yes, he was using sexy bunshins in the process (really good and funny moments!), but the point is, he was able to pass all the knowledge to Kono. Both of them have their merits: Naruto, for passing the fundalmentals, and Kono, for learning them. Naruto still is the true genius; he’s learned it in a short period of time, whereas Kono had 2, 5 years to practice, and his Rasengan was far from perfect: only a small sphere was generated, but it was able to push down Pain. After all Kono is a Sarutobi, thus he deserves the benefit of the doubt. On the other hand, Konohamaru being able to learn RSG means that every nin at his age could do the same. This means that the statement about every new generation surpassing the previous one is essentially true, but in order to do this, first the nins should get some level of maturity, and at their ages they don’t have such level. Seems like Kishi is pushing this statement to its limits. I don’t think this is the end of Hell, though: Raikiri couldn’t kill Asura, and I don’t see how RSG, one rank below, could kill Hell.

Back to the titans and the so awaited fight, Tsunade immediately recognizes that Pain was the little kid Jiraya helped in the past. She has a good memory, indeed, but Yahiko’s objectives were far from fighting against her. He doesn’t intend to fight; he’s just in a mood to a little conversation. Definitely the next pages contain one of the most interesting speeches in a long time.

war…

From all the possibilities, this one was the most difficult to predict. Not only he won’t fight, but he’s making a proposal to Tsunade. He’s proposing an alliance! Join forces with the leaf village. As weird it may sounds, in politic terms such proposal is fairly common. Another great move from Kishi. It’s good the see such subject again. Last time we saw it was when Madara was explaining the foundations of Konoha. Konoha is the strongest village, and joining forces with them would be perfect for Pain. Let’s forget about the superpowers and others illogical stuffs, rather we should focus on such things like these proposals. With those, Kishi is approaching Naruto to reality, which is extremely necessary in a world where the wars are one of the main themes. All the politics involved behind the proposal were so true in our world (will be discussed in the next topic). And Pain, trying to make an alliance while trying to capture one of their comrades illustrates perfectly such theme.

With the proposal, Pain is making his goals public to everyone. The thing I’d like to point here is about the dialog: it was quite good and well developed. It was good to see the different points of view from both Konoha and Pain. While Konoha thinks Akatsuki is a bunch of terrorists, Pain thinks of Konoha as the enemy who disturbs peace. The contrast, the confrontation between their pragmatic visions and beliefs was well explored here, making us to think which one is the correct or not. Of course, it could be a little difficult to understand these semantics at first, but when done correctly, it’ll be easier to understand Tsunade, as a Hokage, and Pain, not as a villain, but as a character who was affected by war. And to help this part, again the panels with Tsunade and Pain were superb: Pain activating rinnegan and losing his cool for the first time were memorable.

Whether I don’t know if Madara was aware from this or not, I don’t think he’d be in a mood to be part of an alliance with the leaf. That’s why I believe at some point, Pain and Madara’s goal will conflict, and so an internal war in Akatsuki. Regarding this proposal, I’ve made a theory about it, and I believe it’s rather interesting in the context. Again, let’s use a military mind here: If Pain succeeds on his task, he’ll obtain the power to annihilate every village, right? I trust you know the phrase: “You are either with us or against us” OK, let’s assume Danzou becomes Hokage. We all know he’s a war hawk, and I believe he’d do anything to protect Konoha. See my point? Konoha, ruled by Danzou, becoming ally of Pain and Akatsuki in order to protect the village. He would join Pain rather than see the entire village being destroyed. At first, this theory could be illogical, but not with Danzou. His methods aren’t exactly what I’d call “good”.

FINISH HER!!!! FATALITY!!! FLAWLESS VICTORY!!!

And now we’re heading to the last part of the chapter, where Ino, Inoichi, Shizune and a random ANBU member are gathered trying to figure out the secret of Pain. Story wise, they’re making progress with all the information, but unfortunately, for us, readers, we haven’t found anything new. The Pains are controlled by the chakra receiver, they can use only one jutsu and someone is controlling them through the chakra receivers. Nothing useful, as some people predicted these stuffs before. Well, maybe just one new piece of information: Pain must be nearby, to be able to control all the sixth bodies at once. But this statement is based on Ino’s assumption, thus it cannot be labeled as true until further information. Assuming the information is true, True Pain could either be Nagato or even someone known among the Konohatians. This would explain why Pain was able to infiltrate somewhat easily in the outskirts, before the assault. But then, Ino’s thoughts were interrupted by another enemy: Human Pain!

With a rapid set of moves, Human was able to split up Shizune from the remaining members, using a smoke bomb, and finally, he has taken Shizune into his mind control, and is extracting information about Naruto’s whereabouts. I’m hoping that Shizune doesn’t die, as she hadn’t fought for a while in the manga, but probably Human won’t use fatality on her, now that he knows where Naruto is. And immediately, Yahiko was filled with the newly fresh information. Now the plot thickens: Will Pain ceases the rampage? Or will he keeping the destruction to lure Naruto? Even if he knows that Naruto is in Myouboku Mountains, Pain would take at least one month to get there, and probably he hasn’t such free time, and this assuming he knows the way to Myouboku. Will Tsunade let him go so easily? Personally I do believe Pain will prepare an ambush in Konoha, he won’t go after Naruto, but will make use of some sort of strategy to call Naruto back. And the most important thing to notice: Pain has achieved his goal, even if indirectly! He was after Naruto, and Naruto isn’t in Konoha, and with the new piece of information, he’s succeeded. For the time being, we can say Pain won the battle! If the chapter wasn’t so exciting like the previous ones, the cliffhanger was one of the best parts, as the clock is ticking. The arc is reaching its climax, and I still hope to see a fight between Tsunade and Pain, as now there is so much in the game.

***Key Points***
 • The theme involved Tsunade and Yahiko’s conversation
 • The exciting, thrilling cliffhanger.

Summary

OK chapter. Not exactly the best one in this arc, due the redundant information about Pain’s identity and some inconsistencies in Kono’s parts. But the speech involving Pain and Tsunade was brilliant, for the realistic view provided by it. Almost no fights here, but seems the arc is reaching its climax, now that Pain knows about Naruto. Some flaws here but still a decent chapter, not spectacular . Let’s just hope to see better chapters from now.

And Now…

Countless possibilities. But IMO, Pain won’t just sit and wait without doing anything. He’s won this time, and he can’t afford to waste more time now that he knows where Naruto is. But I’m expecting to see more from Konan, as she still needs to show some skill and about Hell too. IMO he’s dead and this time another RSG won’t save Konohamaru.
