If you were in a position where it was unavoidable for you to be cursed by the Gods, which curse would you choose. Essentially, if you had a lover, would you take Elizabeth's position (curse wise only) or Meliodas position?
I'll just layout some ideas and reasons why one curse might be better than the other, but first let's start with the definition of each:
Eternal Life (Meliodas): ''You will never again age, and even if you should die,you will be revived''. Along with the subsequent revival, the cursed individual has their emotions taken from them and consumed by the Demon King - reverting the person back into their former sociopath self (TC Leader Meliodas)
Perpetual Reincarnation (Elizabeth): ''I will continue to live out short life spans as a human, and each time I will forget all my memories of my previous lives. If by some chance, I should regain all my memories of my previous lives. Then no matter what happens or how you try to protect me, after three days, I will unavoidably die. And that isn't all, every time I'm reborn I will inevitably meet and fall in love with you and then just as inevitably, I will lose my life before your eyes;;
(Chapter 224 - http://ww1.read7deadlysins.com/chapter/nanatsu-no-taizai-chapter-224/ ) - Elizabeth's explanation of the curses. besides the emotional effects of Meliodas revival.
Now, both curses make the individual suffer greatly, I think that's already established in the community, but who would you choose if you absolutely had to? Believe it or not, I would choose Meliodas curse, which seems to be relatively held as the worst curse out of the two, but I disagree, I believe it's the better one out of the two.
A lot of you will be wondering how a curse that makes you have to inevitably watch your lover die before your eyes 106 times could be better then being reincarnated, but let me explain.
Yes, Meliodas watching Elizabeth dying 106 times is almost impossible to explain, but at the same time, Elizabeth will always come back to him. When she dies, she immediately becomes a newborn baby, as seen in Danafor and allows the process for Meliodas to watch over her, see her grow up and eventually fall in love when she is at suitable age. Meliodas explains himself in 248, that regardless of her form, Goddess or Princess of Liones, he loved every bit of her and his heart would beat like crazy (iirc) whenever they were intimate (romantically or sexually I imagine). It is painful to lose the one you loved for a lifetime (human wise), and it's even more painful to be unable to do anything to stop the process of falling in love and losing her every time, but at the same time there is a security for Meliodas, he gets Elizabeth back. I'm sure the death of a loved one in the real world is extremely painful because you never get to see them, but for Meliodas he gets the reassurance that she will always come back to him, as the curse dictates this.
Now, of course Meliodas loses his emotions to the Demon King if he dies, but that is if he does die. Meliodas is incredibly powerful, and it took a combination of all the Ten Commandments to bring him down and kill him. Individually, besides the Gods and a few exceptional individuals, it will be difficult to kill Meliodas and make him come back with less emotion. Thus, Meliodas gets to live an immortal life without losing his emotions, which is pretty evident as he is his good self even after 3000 years after the curse, and only transitioned back to his evil self now in recent events.
Now on the other hand, Elizabeth's curse dictates that she will always die and come back. She's reborn as a fragile human who live out short lifespans, and in this space of time she can possibly activate her memories, and if she does, she has a 3 day time period of when she will die. That's pretty terrifying, to recollect all of your memories to only realise that you will die in 3 days time, and leave your loved one in both pain and distress. Guilt is one of the worst human emotions to process and deal with, making this 3 day process pretty terrifying, especially when you consider she just collected back all of her happy and sad memories, which reinforce the fear of dying and leaving Meliodas.
Then again, when she does die she reincarnates into a new life without memories, that's great right? Well not always. Obviously, some reincarnations will be happy lives for Elizabeth as she will have Meliodas in her life and might not trigger the memories (as seen by Nakaba saying she lived to old age one time) but at the same time, 107 lifetimes greatly increases the possibility of experiencing utter shit in a life. Elizabeth obviously died 106 times, which is pretty horrific itself as we saw her one time, impaled by wood through her chest - probably leaving her to die slowly, but besides death itself, what if Elizabeth experienced sexual assault, murder, loss of family herself, mental illness and even physical illness? Point is, everytime she is reborn and given a new life, this isn't always a guaranteed good and sheltered life and it's probably fair to assume that Elizabeth Liones is the pinnacle of her lives, in terms of enjoyment and quality of life.
Final point of why I would choose Meliodas curse over Elizabeth's, is because he has the possibility of being able to break their curses. Elizabeth is now a fragile human, who's weaker physically then a Goddess and might even be magically inferior (another debate another time) then her original self, and with this in mind and her 3 day limit of true memories (of finally understanding the curses and can be able to act) she doesn't really have the possibility of breaking the curses herself, meaning she can't end her own situation or Meliodas individually. That's why she probably made Meliodas promise them to break the curses, since only he can. Obviously, this puts more pressure and guilt on Meliodas in order to break them, but him having the possibility too, through the collection of the ten commandments, is a positive for him.
I've probably rambled on for too long right now and I'm sure I have more ideas as too why I would choose Meliodas curse over Elizabeth's: be sure to give me your ideas on which curse you believe is better or worse and which one would you select out of the two?
I'm not sure if I can myself, but can the moderators maybe add a poll to this thread, depicting a choice between Elizabeth or Meliodas curse, just to make it more clear what the community thinks on this discussion. Thanks for reading all of it, if you did
