Since I'm such a Wiki wh0re Here's what Wikipedia has on the following:

Languages of the Philippines - Tagalog is not the only language native to the Philippines, and they differ greatly!!

There are also articles on other aspects of Philippine language usage such as specific ones on the other indigenous Philippine tongues, Englog (more popular known to us as Konyo English), and Philippine English (how English is used by Filipinos). If you have doubts on Wikipedia, you can always look for these in a search engine.

BTW, did you know that there are editions of Wikipedia in Tagalog, Cebuano, Waray-Waray, Ilokano and Kapampangan?

Salamat! At least you know something else other than Tagalog that is from the Philippines, even if it's a little bit. I don't understand the other languages we have because no one has taught me those nor have I tried learning them. Add the fact that my dad was from Bulacan (Tagalog na Tagalog!) and my mom grew up in Manila.

Hmm... convo threads in other languages is something we probably ought to look at ( just so you guys don't feel so tempted to turn these threads into convo threads which is perfectly understandable! )

Maybe you guys could just start a separate thread here in this forum where you could talk in your own native language without getting off-topic (teaching the language, etc.)? Something like the Tagalog Hang-Out Thread - I dunno though XD

Oh well, just a suggestion ( "aha, talaga, talaga..." )

Another thing Nah-Nah taught me was "ay nako kumain ka na ano ba yan" when I had gone for a day without something - XD I found that one amusing ^^

Yeah that dialect is awesome, unfortunately that dialect is getting extinct nowadays coz few people uses. There are other dialects in the Philippines that are Indonesian-like, Malaysian-like, or even Japanese-like (niponggo? i guess, i'm not so sure about it)

The word "eskwela", I would guess it comes from the spanish word "escuela"
