Re: The Pinoy Hang Out Thread v. 4

what do you mean low memory? low disk space or memory? cause if it's memory you're running a lot of programs that your current memory cant handle. close some. take note memory im talking about is primary memory (e.g. RAM) not secondary (e.g. hard disk, flash disk)

programs that take up lot of memory (RAM):
1. half life 2
2. jenna haze DVD on winamp
3. azureus, limewire and basically any java program not utilized properly
4. ongoing norton virus scan
5. objectdock! yes. damn that bitch
6. pink floyd
7. svchost trojan horse
8. ongoing RAR archive
9. filtering a 5000px image
10. burning a DVD while playing call of duty 3

re: memory
try to limit ung mga auto-start na progs pagka-boot...
and dammmn those java progs....takaw sa memory! that's why i don't like interpreted language programs....soooo bloated like a whale! same goes for those norton products....they need to be on a programmer's weight watcher's monitor!

at least linux does it better! :D
oh, there's now a windows port for the 3D desktop cube thingie found on linux!

Re: The Pinoy Hang Out Thread v. 4

daan lng... hehe

re: low memory
check mo na rin baka may spyware/malware running as background process - minsan yan yung nakikiagaw ng resources eh...

kung wala ka pa anti-spyware software installed, try ad-aware and a-squared... also scan your pc while on safe mode para minimum drivers/processes yung tumatakbo...

Re: The Pinoy Hang Out Thread v. 4

@TM: you know java programs are supposed to be FASTER than c++. but the way school are teaching more on object oriented, interpreted, well the old but powerful stuff is usually ignored nowadays, hence java is not utilized properly. business. what happened to the "Humble Programmer"? it's become the "Opportunistic Programmer"

what's this ac-dc? hehe. first time k narinig yan ah. pm m nalg kung medyo... ehem :jk

Re: The Pinoy Hang Out Thread v. 4

@yonie
well i think java was designed to be FASTER and EASIER TO PROGRAM not FASTER IN RUNNING.
how can interpreted be faster than native? it's like a curve is shorter than a straight line! (at least in 2D space...no need for that complicated "time-space warp ngayon din" thingie! :p )
and i thought memory management was supposed to be better in java so that programmers need to worry less about that... :notrust
that's why java's for businesses since these new breed of people suck on memory management in native programming languages...

all hail "malloc/new"! :XD

Re: The Pinoy Hang Out Thread v. 4

i get the BI. but what's ac-dc is equal to "/"? slash?

check out this links. there are a lot of articles about this but wtf, first come on google first visit :)

http://www.idiom.com/~zilla/Computer/javaCbenchmark.html (and this was in 2004)
http://www.javacoffeebreak.com/articles/thinkinginjava/comparingc++andjava.html

Conclusions: Why is "Java is Slow" so Popular?
Java is now nearly equal to (or faster than) C++ on low-level and numeric benchmarks. This should not be surprising: Java is a compiled language (albeit JIT compiled).

Nevertheless, the idea that "java is slow" is widely believed. Why this is so is perhaps the most interesting aspect of this article.

Let's look at several possible reasons:

* Java circa 1995 was slow. The first incarnations of java did not java a JIT compiler, and hence were bytecode interpreted (like Python for example). JIT compilers appeared in JVMs from Microsoft, Symantec, and in Sun's java1.2.

This explanation is implausible. Most "computer folk" are able to rattle off the exact speed in GHz of the latest processors, and they track this information as it changes each month (and have done so for years). Yet this explanation asks us to believe that they are not able to remember that a single and rather important language speed change occurred in 1996.
* Java can be slow still. For example, programs written with the thread-safe Vector class are necessarily slower (on a single processor at least) than those written with the equivalent thread-unsafe ArrayList class.

This explanation is equally unsatisfying, because C++ and other languages have similar "abstraction penalties". For example, The Kernighan and Pike book The Practice of Programming has a table with the following entries, describing the performance of several implementations of a text processing program:
Version 400 MHz PII
C 0.30 sec
C++/STL/deque 11.2 sec
C++/STL/list 1.5 sec

Another evidently well known problem in C++ is the overhead of returning an object from a function (several unnecessary object create/copy/destruct cycles are involved).
* Java program startup is slow. As a java program starts, it unzips the java libraries and compiles parts of itself, so an interactive program can be sluggish for the first couple seconds of use.

This approaches being a reasonable explanation for the speed myth. But while it might explain user's impressions, it does not explain why many programmers (who can easily understand the idea of an interpreted program being compiled) share the belief.

Two of the most interesting observations regarding this issue are that:

1. there is a similar "garbage collection is slow" myth that persists despite decades of evidence to the contrary, and
2. that in web flame wars, people are happy to discuss their speed impressions for many pages without ever referring to actual data.

Together these suggest that it is possible that no amount of data will alter peoples' beliefs, and that in actuality these "speed beliefs" probably have little to do with java, garbage collection, or the otherwise stated subject. Our answer probably lies somewhere in sociology or psychology. Programmers, despite their professed appreciation of logical thought, are not immune to a kind of mythology, though these particular "myths" are arbitrary and relatively harmless.

@yonie
haba a....hehehe....die hard java fan.... :XD i admit outdated na ung knowledge ko sa java esp. JIT. hell we didn't even take what u posted sa microarchitecture lessons ko.... :p dagdag mo pa dun ung multithreading and multiple processor cores....haaay....
hey, there's another way for java to run as good as native/compiled code! sa linux nga lang... :XD as in run java classes/jar like any executable file!

btw, part of the wrapper was written in C! :XD

re: "\" forward slash not backslash :D
continues to the next line, so one line lang talaga siya....parang word wrap w/o messing the compilation

Re: The Pinoy Hang Out Thread v. 4

hm so if that's what you mean, i get it :)

she's really beautiful. hot.

btw im not a die hard java fan :sweat, i looked up articles like that long time ago to determine why java apps i use are slow (like java limewire, compared to c++ bearshare, or java azureus compared to c++ bitcomet). altho it does make sense to continue my java educ but i really aspire to be generalist so c/c++ is the generalist's best friend :D

oh yeah my linux trainer mentioned that java kernel support. if only windows could OPEN UP... moneymakers...

btw yeah, svchost is a windows file, but a trojan got famous a while back when it used that name and a lot of people are fooled... but not my activity monitor! ha :box

@svchost
bakit naman andaming instances niya na tumatakbo? saka maraming worm ngayon na ginagamit ang pangalan ng iba't ibang system processes (i.e. explorer) kaya gusto ko na ring magpalit ng OS...

@google earth
may nilagay akong marker ko sa google earth kanina bago ka mag-post... ipo-post ko yung coords ng bahay ko...

Re: The Pinoy Hang Out Thread v. 4

yeah i know what you mean i could date the picture taken from my subdivision to be 3-4 years old, coz there's no mark of foundational digging near the pic. it's supposed to be the new SM taytay, due later this year. isipin mo, walking distance lang.... parang good and bad. good kasi di na ako gagastos ng pamasahe. bad kasi alam na kung saan ako hahanapin...
