@yonie- it still doesn't change the fact that they ripped off the song "chandeliers" to make the "pinoy BB" theme.... i'm a musician, and i find it hard to condone musicians who plagiarise....thats just friggin wrong..

Hehe barrage of the emo bashers. Magrereply ako. Andami pala.

emo is supposed to be anti-conformist??? W T F!!!! thats the biggest load of bull in the world! if they're so anti-conformist/ establishment why the fuck do they all LOOK ALIKE?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?????
True. That's what I always hated about people who label themselves non-conformists.

yeah, it's like you bump into someone and their ice cream falls and you're like "so emo dude, you gonna write a song about that?" and all that stuff.

for me, the ultimate emos would be linkin park. no denying it. matchbox20? nah, just amateurs...
hahahahaha! ice cream! lupit nun a. anyway hunter, how could you include matchbox? they're not even punk.

i miss the hardcore scene in the philippines... together with the metal scene... now its all cutey rock... shit i cant feel the rock in today's scene... what happened to the grunge, to the ORIGINAL pinoy alternative like grin department, siakol, eheads, parokya, rivermaya not some crappy reused stuff from cueshe and 6cyclemind and damn WTF happened to rivermaya!!!! fuck even the bands who participated in the previous scene have gone gay, look at slapshock... from hardcore to............ crap
you know what's supposed to be more appreciated today? the GOOD alternative scene! our techno retro britpop scene!

1. up dharma down
2. orange and lemons
3. radioactive sago

these bands are one of the greatest bands in filipino history but they are horribly underrated compared to the mainstream. also i have the techno compilation of the hottest manila mixers and bands (Local//:E!), they are so freaking awesome
ang sad nga e. Minsan iniluksa ko din yan. The death of good pinoy bands. However, kahit sa emo-ness ng music scene ngayon, there is still a distinct filipino sound to all of them.

I do agree that, despite the mainstream crap we hear these days, merong developing good music playing on the side. Siguro in a year or two, they'll become the mainstream again, when the emo people die out on the scene.

@ orange and lemons- they're plagiarists....fuck them....
nagustuhan ko yung first album ng orange and lemons, but after they got that hit (na plagiarized) and got over-confident, nakain sila ng corporate world. sigh. there goes another death.

at least imago isn't emo...

anyway hunter, how could you include matchbox? they're not even punk.
i listened to their music. it's like they made a song (or songs) about their everyday depression. just look at the way they dress!

and hoobastank. DAMN we should ban them on the airwaves. they make me sick. making a song about a headache, G*DDAMN!!!!!!!!!!11

eto pa nakakaasar: tuwing sisingit ang tatay ko sa pc ko para mag-surf ng net, ALL MY WEB SHORTCUTS, FAVORITES AND LINKS KEEP DISAPPEARING!!! ang masama pa dun, hindi pa niya alam kung bakit nawawala --- ako pa ang may kasalanan....

haha. boyband songs are mostly emo too

aw man, look, the name of emo has been bastardized by stereotypes and ignorant people... emo used to be a respected name, a great genre of hardcore, now bands hate it when they are labeled emo, just because of the negative tone of the word. i blame this stupid emo subculture. emo used to be emotional hardcore, hardcore that's so angst-driven the singer is usually acting really emotional, even crying, shouting to the end of the world and that is a very beautiful thing. now, emo is associated with suicide, love, GAY. man, sometimes stupid aspects of society like this make me mad

listen to original emo songs from bands like embrace, from the legendary ian mackaye. now listen to the more familiar sound of emo, but still hardcore, from sunny day real estate. now jimmy eat world. and now, typecast. see the evolution of this once great genre. am i wrong to hate the new wave? i dont care, to me the current wave is straying away from the roots. too far away.

ROFLMAO!

galit na galit kayo sa mga emo bands ah!

I haven't been giving focus on Filipino Music nowadays so I really don't know how to classify music. Our radio at home only plays novelty songs (which makes me hole up more in my room).
Honestly, wala na kong alam sa mga bagong kanta ngayon so you'd rarely see me singing along over some music played on the radio. Kakanta na lang ako kapag yung mga luma yung naririnig ko like The Dawn, The Youth, Yano, EHeads, Rivermaya, Wolfgang (SHET! I heard "Halik ni Hudas" one time sa radyo and I was singing on top of my lungs that the people in our house were staring at me) etc.

Back in college, I was so proud that Filipino music is being recognized again...then I hear this from you. LMAO!

my cents on emo songs:

not needed!!!! emo songs can't make you work harder(I always have my MP3 player even at work--even during a call.) It can't take away your stress. It might give you more. When you really don't want to go to work but you have to, emo won't be boosting your enthusiasm. Try playing a jumpy or hardcore music, you might even find yourself striding faster over to work.

AND WHERE THE HELL IS WOLFGANG!?
GOD! I'm being nostalgic of my headbanging days! I remember when I was still a kid back then, we would all go to the mall, wearing our Metallica/Pantera/Nirvana/Pearl Jam black shirts from Cartimar, then we bully Hip-Hop guys especially in Isetann Recto. We kids would yell at them "Hip-Hop bulok! Magwalis na lang kayo ng kalsada!" Pag may umalma, paliligiran nung mas matatanda sa min. MWAHAHAHA! ~Ah! Bliss~

LOL!! i remember that too!!

but i'm just an elementary kid back then...
no fashion sense...
plain little dude you wouldn't even notice...

uh, isetann recto? never been there, though i heard it's still operating...
cartimar? never heard of that too.

come to think of it, i've been playing windows 3.x games during that period......

Isetann Recto is that washed out mall at the other end of LRT2 (from santolan to recto line) and yeah out of all the Isetanns in the Philippines, I think Recto is the only one operating properly now. Isetann in Quiapo and in Cubao are operating still due to reasons I can't comprehend.

Cartimar is a section in Recto where you can find almost every shop selling t-shirts of rock bands. Of course these are all unbranded but it's still good. If you want hardcore shirts, that is the place.

When I was in those ages, the only games that I know are Sega and NES games. PC's are a whole different world to me. It's like, only geeks use PC's before. They're only for the elite intelligent ones, or so I think.

i also play nes games then. i think they're called famicom(family computer), the us version is more costly then...

it was cool playing with 16-bit PC games back then. DOOM scares the sh*t outta you. prince of persia -- never got to the end, or even found out how to save my game.

on the famicom side, there's the button-basher supreme - street fighter. there's also the side-scrolling violent mario 2(he's the gta back then - those cheap fireballs!), then the shooter contra.... and last but not the least, when snes was out, there's super contra, mario 3, mario kart and biker mice from mars.

And I was excited back then to be able to do a Hadouken! Ah, those days~

When SNES came, all I played were MKII and DBZ2 and DBZ3. I was addicted to mashing the buttons!

@bbsai

I just checked the site and I think it's pretty good! Haven't browsed all of it though. Will do after I get myself a can of beer.

whoa! this site looks great!

@l4pb: listen to embrace and fugazi, established by one of the greatest personas in the music scene, Ian MacKaye. you'll see what im talking about, emotional hardcore. most of the lyrics are not about love, for mackaye, its about his straight edge philosophy (no violence, anti-corporate, no drugs, beer, smoke) in his songs. you rarely hear any love dilemmas in the early emos. and then compare it to today. you'll see why the degradation of emo over the years... from revolution to submission. wtf!
