hey guys i found another new but high-quality group, (i was movie-hopping on anidb) niizk. they're using DVDrips and h.264 mkv for their projects. what is great is that they encode the anime movie masterpieces like satoshi kons and studio ghiblis, with other greats as well. the channel and packlist can be found here

re: komikon. Damn. I had the nastiest hangover in my entire life, I couldn't go. But my friend got me an autographed copy so I'm gonna kiss him when he delivers it. ^^ I really wanted to go, so I could get a survey of what's happening in the Philippine comics scene, before finally making my conclusions.

Well, this is still an underdeveloped opinion, and leaves room for improvement, but I think that Pinoy comics right now are losing their originality, compared to the old comics. They've all become so manga-ish. Even if the stories are say, forced pinoy myths (like mga agimat and involves pinoy mythical creatures- much like saying the only pinoy architecture is the bahay kubo and such). That's why I really appreciate Pol Medina's work (kahit comedy siya, and not really graphic novels) because everything about Pugad Baboy is so original.

That's why I wanted to go and investigate further because there might have been improvements, or new komikeros out there who are doing their best to come up with an original style instead of trying to make manga. But damn. I didn't go, so I don't know.

you're right bb. btw growing up, do you guys read Funny Komiks? i stopped reading them when i went to high school but i always bought the stuff every week as a child. i remember combatron, tinay pinay, eklok, tomas at kulas, planet op d eyps, mr. and mrs, superblag!..... gawd i miss them so much.. and then all these manga/anime-influenced artists took over, like A/X and stuff... also Batibot comics, where the artists are much better than Funny. i forgot the artist of that really cool series, where the art is so gorgeous it made me jealous every time i see it. wonder what happened to them now, its been ten years since i last seen a copy. maybe its still ongoing

you havent read them? these were the good times for pinoy komiks, the boom, i read so many of these stuff like Engkantao comics, blahblah so many of them. funny komiks are for kids, i dont remember when they started, around the 80s i think. i've read them since they priced P6 and i quit around the P12 price. they're my biggest influence when it comes to the comic industry

hey! naabot ko pa yan! i was 4-6 years old and i still remember buying a copy for 4 pesos. it was the debut of combatron, btw. i recently threw away my (very battered) copies (like 4 years ago), with some dating from 1990...

...back then, deathmetal is still called alchitran, right? he's been killed by his boss (megatron?) for repeated failure, his wasted body floated in space and got hit by the death comet, right? i remember the head design differs weekly until it finally settled on a symmetric design. lawl talaga.

I was reading them when I was 3-11 years old hanggang sa inayawan ko na dahil nagmahal na sya. Last time na bumili ako nun e nung naging 8 pesos sya. Started at around 1 peso I think when we read it.
