bad news "ah! my goddess", i've still got some "first major quiz in politics" to finish... it's essay type, so it's making my mind a bit blurry... need help! here's a question i'd like you guys to comment on:

The AFP is the protector of the people and state. The military had a key role in initiating EDSA Revolution I that ousted the late president Marcos’ dictatorial regime. Why was it during early days of Martial Law the AFP and its allies allow themselves be a part of different anomalies, furthermore where is the word “Protector of the People” in that aspect?

Section 8. Civilian authority is at all times supreme over the military.
This can be interpreted as Civilian authority = the President; for the masses elected the president (in this case Marcos) as their leader. Aside from being vague, the military follows the chain of command; they are not responsible for acting out the orders given unto them, for they follow the “civilian authority”.

(Taken from Article II section 3 of the 1987 constitution)
Section 3. Civilian authority is, at all times, supreme over the military. The Armed Forces of the Philippines is the protector of the people and the State. Its goal is to secure the sovereignty of the State and the integrity of the national territory.
This can be interpreted as “the military is acting for the safety and the integrity of the Filipino people by rooting out dissidents and removing potential destabilizers that will harm the democracy.” As the military is acting for the nation’s health and order, actions such as ‘indiscriminate kidnapping’ and ‘political and media hush-hush’ can be overlooked --- which is different from what the spirit of the constitution is meant to be.
