Discussion Pitou's cellphone (ant arc spoilers)

I notice this scene is almost never discussed, even though it's actually one of the most ridiculous scenes in HXH. We're told that Werefin was able to call Pitou, who had his phone on vibrate mode, and Pitou then answered the phone and was convinced that Werefin had Komugi back. This, of course, led to the ensuing battle of Gon versus Pitou, because otherwise Pitou wouldn't dare risking Komugi's life even with the risk Gon posed.

HXH presumably uses the same technology as real life, so although Pitou was watched by Gon who was closely behind him, he apparently had the time to hit a button to answer a phone. Despite the fact that Gon is someone who is portrayed to have extraordinary senses, he apparently didn't realize someone was talking to Pitou. Yes, Pitou could have even more incredible senses, but the point is that even a normal human close to you can probably hear a phone vibrating let alone a guy with superhuman senses. There's no indication that Werefin or Pufu was trying to talk extra quiet, but even if they were, there's no way Gon could've missed the phone vibration itself. Also I know of no cell phone that just auto answers for you while on vibrate mode so Pitou had to have hit a button somewhere to receive the call, and again Gon totally missed seeing that.

And what would've happened if Pitou was not able to receive the phone call? Actually, I have no idea. He wouldn't risk fighting Gon, but he'd probably still say the same thing. So then what? It seems like what really ticked Gon off was the fact that Pitou said he was going to kill him. He's obviously not going to say that without knowing Komugi is safe. So what happens from there?

In the beginning of the scene, it was stated that the palace had lots of noise echoing within it.

It's also quite likely that Pitou has faster reflexes than even Chrollo to answer the phone.

It doesn't matter how good Pitou's senses are because as long as Gon can hear it too then there's no way to hide it, and Gon probably can hear it even if they're in the middle of a rock concert as he's always been described as someone who has extraordinary senses.

I always wondered if Pitou wouldve been able to heal Kaito if he didnt had that call were Pofu said they have Kumogi back...
Because for me it felt like Pitou changed his Mind after that call.

I don't think Pitou was lying about Kite being dead. Like he said the most he can do is make him a puppet whose body doesn't decompose. Though without having Kumogi back I'm sure Pitou would continue to try to negotiate with Gon because he's certainly not going to risk fighting him without knowing Komugi is safe.

Honestly it was pretty dumb that none of the assault took advantage of Pitou's 'I'll do anything you want' terms. Even if you cannot expect Royal Guards to turn against Meryem, they could at least break all of his arms and legs and then he'd be effectively out of the fight. Like Pitou said, breaking his limbs doesn't stop him from healing so he'll certainly accept these terms, and that'd ensure they have one less Royal Guard to worry about since it's not like he can possibly heal himself while someone's watching him because he's effectively in Zetsu in that state.

Yeah thats right. Without that call Pitou wouldnt have fought gon - that has to be the twist with that call.
So, that Kaito was unable to be revived was true.

Even if Gon heard it why would he care? It's not as if he didn't want to let Pitou talk. He didn't care about it, he just wanted her to heal Kaito, that's all. Even if she was making a joke, he wouldn't give a shit about it. He knew Komugi could be healed in 1 hour(maybe) and he let her discuss with Pouf in his presence, even when she used signs to discuss with him, he was aware of that. In their conditions, he didn't say she should stay quiet. He said himself that he "trusted" Pitou.

Even if Gon heard it why would he care? It's not as if he didn't want to let Pitou talk. He didn't care about it, he just wanted her to heal Kaito, that's all. Gon isn't stupid. He obviously knows Pitou is only doing this because he has Komugi as a hostage, and surely he is aware that Pitou's friends are also unfathomably powerful and quite capable of retaking the said hostage. That's why Gon didn't even give Pitou a chance to speak after Komugi was healed, because anything Pitou do could be some kind of code/trick to get Komugi back and once he has Komugi back, of course Pitou isn't going to help him anymore. The point is that he went through the effort to make sure Pitou is cut off contact from the rest of the Ants so that even if say Meryem just came back and instant killed everyone and took Komugi back, there's still no way for Pitou to know this so Kite will still be healed. The 'trust' only exists as long as Gon has his hostage, and any communication between the rest of the Ants to Pitou can only worsen this position.

Also, all the Royal Guards are relatively honorable, but as the manga points out, things like honor and loyalty are irrelevent to Meryem, and that sort of applies to the Royal Guards as wel. That is at least Yupi and Pitou seems like someone who will honor their words, but if then they decide honoring their words could possibly threaten Meryem, they'd immediately take back their words (that's why Yupi was puzzled by the fact that he let Knuckle live, and Meryem said the correct action for an Ant is to immediately take back his words after Potclean was removed and just kill everyone). It's unclear how well Gon and others understands this, but at least Novu pointed out that regardless of what the soldiers may feel, they will always obey Meryem's commands. Besides, it's not like there's any particular reason for Gon to actually trust any of the Royal Guards, especially Pitou given their history. Gon's deal with Pitou was pure blackmail, and he's aware of that.

Remember the fourth phase, when Gon was able to steal Hisoka's tag because Hisoka was completely focused on killing his target ? Or when Geretta managed to take out Gon because he was so excited to have managed to steal the tag ? Geretta said something like "Because you were so focused on your training, you weren't careful enough and didn't watch your back, I could have got you many times". Gon's ability to focus (something Biscuit praised in Greed Island) is of course a huge advantage, but it can also be a drawback, when Gon is so focused on something that all the rest doesn't matter to him.
That's exactly what happened here. Gon was completely focused on one idea and one idea only : have Pitou heal Kaito. That's all he was thinking about. When the phone started vibrating, Pitou answered faster than Gon could see (we know Pitou is leagues above Gon) so the vibrating may have lasted less than a tenth of a second. Even if Gon' hears did catch it, it would have blended with the background noise. Then, Pitou probably put the sound of the phone call at the bare minimum (again, so fast that it was done before Welfin had started talking), and since the phone was in his pocket, the sound would have been very low. Even if Gon did hear the voice, (and it's very possible he didn't : we know he has superhuman senses, but he's not Melody, and again we're talking about a cellphone in the pocket of someone else who was at least a meter away from him, with the sound probably as low as possible, in a very noisy room), it would have been a vague sound at best. With some concentration, maybe he would have realized it was a voice and that someone was talking to Pitou, or maybe even understand what was said, but he wouldn't have paid any attention to a vague sound. He would have dismissed it as background noise, because he only cared about one thing : saving Kaito.
