Discussion Prejudices about Seinen

I don't think I've ever had any prejudices about seinen, except from maybe when I was still reading shounen tripe I found it to be "unattractive" looking. What a fool I was indeed.

I can understand that partially. The first story given to me as Seinen was Shigurui (I mean ok it's actually Shounen but content/displaywise absolutely following every aspect one would connect to Seinen).
It really has a very, very unpleasant style. I don't mean that it was a bad, shabby or whatever style. It's just having unpleasant faces and disgusting scenes, but actually is pretty close to reality this way sometimes.
Shounenfaces tend to never be really ugly, even for ugly characters. Seinen shows really perverted, distorted, seriously ugly things instead. Especially Shigurui, Berserk and Wolfen Crest for example.

On the other hand I was one of the people consideren manga to be a little nerdy to begin with. So I was rather happy to escape the typical "mangastyle" used in many Shounen, as Seinen often have a much more realistic style.
Also some of the next Seinen I was reading were Berserk and Vinland Saga, which I guess can be considered to have a little more "western" style in general (especially Berserk).

The seinen that lured me completely out of my shounen cave were Homunculus and I think Ryuguden. I guess they had just the right amount of imagination I needed back then.
