Tbh I have several questions or things I don't quite understand.
1) (General question) Can you feel if something flying towards you is infused with haki? If not, then Ace would've been in big trouble if Van Augur was a haki user. This is actually closely connected to the second question:
2) Can you only turn your body into the element or can you also create "holes" in your body where NOTHING is and where even haki can't hurt you because you moved that part of the body (as your element) somewhere else? That would explain how Aokiji wasn't hit by Whitebeards attack. And it could also make Ace not care about Van Augurs bullets if he just created holes instead of turning into fire.
I hope you guys can follow what I mean. If you can only turn into your element then there are many risks and then Ace was stupid AND Aokiji should be dead. So you have to be able to create holes where even with haki nothing can happen to you aswell. That's pretty op, what do you guys think?
EDIT: One last question: What if that house that JB threw at Ace wasn't destroyed but Ace simply turned into fire? The house would've hit him and he would've turned into fire but he wouldn't be able to get THROUGH the house. So he would have to be a very thin layer of fire and escape to one side, right? What if somebody threw something so huge at you, that you can't produce enough of your "fire" or "smoke" or whatever? Would this person just dissapear? Or be crushed in his human form? I really can't imagine it
I guess you're right. Even though Ceaser didn't create a hole but just moved his whole (gas-)body to one side. Considering that, it is likely that you can perceive the usage of Haki, even with a flying object.

Unless the huge thing in question was coated with haki, I doubt it would crush the person's human form. Depending on the element, the person should be able to escape as there form is ethereal enough to get through the tiniest of cracks. Probably not, but I'm going with how Luffy didn't know one of the Boa sisters and Sentomaru were using Color of Armament, before he even knew what haki was.
I think it depends on the power you have. Smoker and Ace can create holes because of their logia power, while Akainu might not be able to because of ice. Unless Van Augur used haki, Ace didn't need to care either way as logias don't get hurt by normal attacks.
There are few risks, and I think Vergo pointed one out to Smoker. Smoker kept spreading his smoke body all over the place, but Vergo said that made him an easy target thanks to his usage of haki. I forgot what happened to Aokiji though, whether he was already ice or not. But I'm guessing it's harder to kill him because he's an ice user.

I see it the same way. These questions were to get your opinions because I wasn't 100% sure here. The third question though is only hypothetical it will never happen. But IF a HUGE (let's just say 1km²) thing made of diamond or something fall on a logia user then at first he would turn into the element. The element would be compressed and pressed to the ground. And then what? I mean everything would be crushed under this weight. It wasn't really meant as serious question I just wonder HOW they would die then (bc in this scenario I'm pretty sure even a logia can't do much)
