So Penny is back,i had an inkling that she might be brought back because she is a robot.


The ED(OP actually) was very spoilerish but the visuals were gorgeous

And what's with their hairstyle lol,Qrow's voice was something i was unsure how it would turn around but thankfully i got used to it quickly.


A Good buildup episode but nothing extraordinary.

This. That was also what i was expecting.
But in the end she is a cyborg so extracting her memory data wouldnt be that hard. It cheapens her fate from vol 3, but in the end thats what happens when dealing with robots in a series. They always have an easy ticket to come back, unless you completely disintegrate them.

I mean, sure, it makes sense. Penny being back doesn't violate any in universe rules or established facts. But from a storytelling-plot perspective the story did loose a fair bit rather than gain anything. Penny was a motivating factor for ruby and arguably one of the more tragic developments in volume 3. So... both of those are lost. And this also leads to other issues....

seeing an army of heartless pennys would ahve been simply better. Of course, we could still get them but with the actual penny being alive its just not as good a development.

We could get to see penny die for real this time around... But does it really serve the story? You could have found a second thing to traumatize team ruby with.

I suppose that if the series is ballsy enough to have penny be an enemy AND fight team rwby then things could get interesting. Specially if a party is forced to kill the other... I suppose watts could easily override penny and force her to do that.

Thats a pretty interesting prediction. I would suggest holding on to this theory, especially since we are dealing with Watts now. And we even got a mention of his "genius" hacking skills. Yeah not sure if they would go for the kill if Penny became an enemy, but i would applaud the CRWBY team if they did that. I think the villains need to get a W in this and the next season.

I feel totally indifferent about this episode, it didn't spark any hype within me. Also didn't like the revival of Penny at all. Sure, as you guys said, it doesn't go against anything shown in the series, but she should have stayed out of the series regardless. I guess I can live with Penny turning into an enemy, that's basically getting the best out of this questionable decision.

I barely noticed the change in Qrow's voice. That should be actually a positive thing since I liked his previous voice... but who cares about Qrow at this point? The fact that he got captured as well - even though he was the last one to be attacked, mind you - speaks volumes about his right to exist in this series. Surprise attack or not, I can't buy all of our protagonists to get captured like this.

On the bright side, I like the current setting of the city and here is hope that Ironwood and Winter will spice everything up. Some new designs look ugly as hell though...

By the way: Weiss 4tw!

Curious to know who that blonde woman is thats fighting alogside Qrow.

But the fact that Tyrian is hunting her? ( Did Jacques side with Watts ) there's also info about Reporter being assassinated.

Whole Penny stuff I knew she was coming back since Volume 3 but it could be done much better ( and have different personality )

If only she would fight that in Volume Proper.....

Episode 1:

Story playing out as expected. Of course they're going to get in trouble as soon as they get there.

Penny's return... was expecting it to happen at some point, though I'm not a fan of the new hairdo. The question is what they do with her as the story continues, and it would not surprise me at all if she did end up as an opponent at some point. Now whether they manage to do any good development with her finding out about Pyrrha's fate is the question in my mind right now. And whether they bring back her floating swords--granted they're probably a pain to animate, and given it was the wires that cut her apart back, I could understand if they weren't rebuilt for being a potential point of weakness, but they feel too iconic to me to leave them out completely.

As for the action... while the animation was smooth and fluidly done, there wasn't really any choreography. Even if they were grimm that only take a single hit to take down, they should at least do... something besides run/jump forward and get slashed (even the train fight in the last volume had the 1-shottable grimm fighting back). Felt more like something they put in just so there was action of some sort, but it didn't impress.

Qrow is largely a disappointment tbh. He hasn't really done much of anything since.... volume 4 when he fought tyrian. But since then he has largely been useless or unhelpful. You'd think a pro hunter of his caliber would stand out so much that at least the plot would force him elsewhere so as to have something to do but nowadays it barely looks like he is stronger than the team. so there is just that feeling of.... why is he even there?

Realistically speaking is that given how things are, qrow shouldn't merely be with the kids... Given the circumstances its him and james that should be in charge of the entirety of the crusade against salem. Qrow so far has not been up for it and is largely stuck in that limbo between being too useful or not at all. James of course has not lived up to his role as leader here either.

At this point I'd say the gang is past the training stage. That's just not the story anymore. But they should do something to get actual huntsmen licenses or something to that effect.

Qrow's semblance can't be activated or deactivated. Its a passive skill wich is always at work. Realistically speaking he shouldn't be able to hang with the kids for so long in general.Which makes his presence around kids even more awkward.

The wiki has this bit:

So according to that.... the most qrow can do is just increase it's effect but it still does not allow him to actually focus it. I suppose this is why things went so wrong at times during the fight against tyrian.

robin... hill though? I suppose we at least get an idea of what her role will be. elections, possible violent insurgence...

Seriously, I almost feel bad for weiss here. She literally can't take a step without people recognizing her. She is utterly incapable of any sort of stealth related job. Who is exposition prisoner to talk to her like that though? Weiss should smack him with her privilege. He'd die but he deserves it.

I also want to take some seconds to praise Weiss myself. This is syx during V6 on how to get in contact with Ironwood:

However, Qrow causing a ruckus and (intentionally) letting himself get arrested would definitely reach the ears of Ironwood and lead to an audience with him, no?

In any case, compared to Jaune's plan, I consider my idea that Qrow should cause a small ruckus and let himself get captured in order to establish contact with Ironwood waayyyyyyyyyyy better.

Considering the last two episodes, this is quite funny.

I saw a theory in Reddit that Ironwood might have planted a bug on Qrow,let's see if it is right or not.


But if there was so big a threat in Mantle why don't they update the security there too?Lol at the security authority.

Another setup episode, with some interesting moments:

• Love seeing my girl Winter again, the usual "stick in the mud, hard boiled overprotective big sis" lol. Though i dont like her new outfit, and her design seems kinda off, kinda, dont know how to explain it. Must be cuz we havent seen her since Weiss volume 5 trailer.
• Ruby, hmmm .... very interesting that she actually kept Oz's secret about Salem and the world to herself and lied about the relic. I am curious to see where this is going, and if that was the right move. Either she is keeping Oz's face, or she doesnt want to crush Atlas's hope of defeating Salem, or something else is on her mind. I would like that this gets addressed in the next episode.
• Interesting plan about the satellite, thats probably gonna fail spectacularly.
• Lol Ironwood must have been truly desperate and under a lot of stress, for him to hug Qrow like that and say those things
• Elite team ..... a bunch of cringe stereotypes
• nothing else interesting to say about this episode ....
• ....
• The opening grew on me quite a bit

I liked the reunion, albeit some of the antics were rather silly. Also it wouldn't surprise me if Ironwood had something else still planned, so Ruby being circumspect and keeping their secrets might not be such a bad idea (also considering potential Penny issues)

As for the new plan... not gonna work, right? Or maybe we'll be surprised that something actually works out right for once...

MANDATORY MILITARY GRADE MAKEOVERS.

So like, their cloths are armor now? I get jaune but the rest never had that. That's absurd.

I am also a bit lost on the plot... They need that place as a launch site... ok... but why do they need the dust? There's an embargo, they should have way more dust than they can possibly use.

So... at least this episode evidences grown ups being slightly ahead at least of the gang. Of course, its an elite squad and whatnot but still.

As for the yang bit with blake's hair... Is it breaking the fourth wall if she says what all viewers are thinking?

Oscar being kept away from the danger makes sense. It seems like a mistake to not tell james that salem is immortal. You'd think that they'd at least consider that james is almost certainly planning a mass scale operation to nuke or invade salem's territory. Which of course can't work because salem is immortal.

And the luck guy... I figured he'd be a rival or foil to qrow... but... dammit he is a boyfriend to qrow. I suppose the simple reality here is that the entirety of the cast is omnisexual.

I am liking the fight scenes in general. It's an increasingly better improvement over the previous 2 volumes.

The series addressing ruby's quirk was nice. It's clearly more than speed... Since she uses it to kinda fly and turn herself into a red blob. Maybe there are time shenanigans to consider here.

at the end i was guessing the rando would run into cinder and/or goddess neo. It's just weird the way things played out though.

and then.....
