Ok, I was reading the last chapter and I realized the only way this whole mess will wrap up is if Naruto hands the title of Hokage to Sasuke in the end.
Case in point, the reason Hashirama's village failed to reach peace is because they let dumb ass people elect him and then turned their backs on his ideals to worship the man itself.
Konoha was founded because Madara and Hashirama agreed to an ideal of unity, it wasn't an assimilation of the Senju clan over the Uchiha, it was a real deal of peace on equal terms which meant Madara's choice and beliefs over the village meant as much as that of Hashirama.
However, the moment they choose Hashirama as Hokage and ostracized Madara they ruined everything because they placed Hashirama's power (his personal image) at the core of Konoha's ideals instead of valuing the ideals of unity itself.
This was the mistake of switching the means for the end, the village was meant to create peace and unity not to force itself as its result.
Had Hashirama refused the title and given it to Madara, it would have created true peace, because Madara becoming the protector of the ideals of peace and unity would mean that Konoha was truly a means of placing all Shinobi on equal grounds against senseless violence.
Yet people are stupid and democracy is flawed. The people picked Hashirama as the hero because he always defended Konoha and his power forced the Uchiha to accept peace but they ignored that, despite being opposed to it until the last moment, Madara choosing peace had equal importance in the foundation of the village and he had sacrificed as much as Hashirama if not more before coming to terms with it.
Sadly, the moment Hashirama let people worship him as the hero and foresook Madara as the coadjuvant they repeated the mistake the followers of the Sage of the Six Paths did and the world was doomed to another cycle of conflict.
Because people bowed down to Hagoromo without understanding his ideals, his power became a conveniece to them and they turned on each other once he was gone.
Because people credited Hashirama as their leader and followed him, including the Uchiha clan, the village became a convenience for people to hide behind the power and prestige of the Hokage and launch another bunch of conflicts.
The world of Hagoromo failed because it stopped at himself, a god with good intentions who tried to physically change humanity to understand each other but once his all understanding Buddha self was gone all others let personal desire take over and ruin his work.
The world of Hashirama failed because it stopped at the village, a place which hides behind the power of a great hero to justify itself as peace but creates more conflict to prevent others from challenging it's leadership.
Everything I said up until now leads to one conclusion, that everytime humanity hails itself behind a saviour but worship his image instead of his goals then they are doomed to sink in conflict again.
Naruto's path will fail, his ideals of understanding will only last until his death as those who come in the next generations, even his own descendants, will only acknowledge his personal achievements while his ideals dissipate between conflicting interpretations.
For real peace to come forth, the ideals must be stronger than the image of the person wielding them.
This is why Sasuke must become Hokage, because he can push foward the ideals Naruto preach without becoming their embodiment.
Like how Madara opposed Konoha until the very last moment but became pivotal in it's foundation, Sasuke planned to destroy Konoha until the very last moment when he decided to join the war to protect it.
Naruto and Sasuke are now under the same window which allowed Madara and Hashirama to come together and build Konoha with Sasuke, despite being despised as a villain, contributing and sacrificing as much as Naruto to turn the tides of the conflict against Madara.
It is fundamental to remember that the Village took a great deal of effort to see Naruto as a hero instead of a monster because he sincerely fought hard for it but they chided Sasuke as crazy for seeking the position in spite of his previous status as an enemy.
Nevermind that Naruto wanted to be Hokage just to brag about it and went on to fight Pain for revenge's sake until his dad showed up in his mind. Sasuke is fighting Madara just like how Naruto fought Pain but people are too conceited to realize that because they already choose Naruto as their hero.
Everyone says that to become Hokage one must be acknowledged by the people, however, everyone who said that is an idiot and is completely wrong.
It is the people who must acknowledge the ideals of the man trying to lead them instead of trusting their hearts to that person and forgetting his ideals later.
If the people are forced to accept Sasuke as Hokage, then he will try his best to live up to the ideals of peace he wants to build upon, he will spread light instead of embodying it and a system which will work even without him can finally arrise.
If the people elect Naruto as Hokage it will be a repetition of the historical mistake which ruined everything Konoha was meant to represent. Naruto may govern through the love Konoha and the other countries have for him but his ideals will wane and the loyalties build around him will crumble as the nations change generations and his person becomes another legend bigger than his ideals which he was unable to truly carry foward.
What's worse is that if the village chooses Naruto and rejects Sasuke, just as Madara was rejected for his former actions and ideal, he will reject the world build by Naruto and create another massive war in the future.
Worse than that is the fact Madara was a lonesome lunatic whereas Sasuke has allies which will follow him regardless of his position towards Konoha.
Karin plays a massive factor here as she can and will restore the Uchiha clan with him whether it be to protect or destroy the village.
Now, if you think this war is bad, imagine in 30 years a clan of Rinnegan users wielding Snake Sage Mode and Cursed Seals with Sasuke pulling the same level of based shit as Madara currently does.
In a nutshell, if people don't learn to unite towards ideals instead of hiding themselves behind heroes they will just repeat the same mistakes their predecessors made and if Naruto becomes Hokage because people worship him and hate Sasuke we will have the rebuild Uchiha clan rolfstombing the world in the near future.
