Synopsis
During a fiercely hot summer in Sotoba, a peaceful and quiet village with a population of 1300 people, a series of bizarre deaths begin to occur. At the same time, a strange family moves into a long abandoned mansion in the region. Hospital dean Toshio Ozaki cannot figure out the cause of death in the deceased, initially suspecting an epidemic. As investigations continue between the hospital staff and the residents, it turns out that the village is being attacked by vampires.

It sounds very interesting and the element of mystery really adds to my curiosity about this series. Moreover, it seems Gackt is voicing one of the main characters!!!

As I mentioned in the post above, it was the element of mystery that got me interested in this series, since I wouldn’t usually watch this kind of anime…why? Because I’m a bit of a chicken and I’m not too fond of horror series; however I like series in which the element of mystery plays an important part and the fact that Gackt is voicing one of the characters was enough to convince me to watch this series.

The opening of Shiki is perfect for the series. The music, the animation, the way the characters are portrayed; everything fits and goes extremely well with the horror theme of this anime. Now about the episode itself…it wasn’t really scary but it did a good job introducing the mystery theme into the story.

I have been reading some first impressions/reviews and among the anime community there are a lot of people who have high expectations for this anime…I can’t say that I’m already sold on Shiki…but I did awake enough of my curiosity to watch the next episode.
