People that get swallowed are often chewed up, covered in liquids (saliva, blood, whatever that concoction is in the titan's stomach) and "ground up" as unpleasant as that sounds, so it's like the rough equivalent of putting something in a blender on the "pulse" setting. And then to top it all off, when the titan dies, they would be getting poached/boiled to a severe extent due to the super-hot titan vapour.

This has to be one of the more grotesque things to think about when it comes to Titans. Especially if somehow a human was still alive inside the Titan (like Eren) when they died. Ugh, Cringing.

I would imagine 99% of people the titans eat are dead before they get to the titan's stomatch. I do not remember clearly, but didn't the titan that atr Eren's mom break her back first or something? I swear I have seen that happen at some point in the show. So most people die, really, Eren jumped into his mouth basically, so vital parts could not be chewed off. Still, like I said, people in titan's bellies are not digested at any meaningful rate, when they are vomited their skeleton and most of the muscle is pretty intact. So it must be the intense heat at a titan's death that evaporates the body.

Wondering, is 3DMG possible in real life? I imagine no, because gas wouldn't be powerful enough to propel a person at high speeds. And then there's the fact that probably no human has reflexes strong enough to maneuver at such speeds unless he is 100% aware of the terrain he is in (and even then?). But could the mechanics work?

I imagine if RL people tried it, even if they had the reflexes and even if there was a gas canister that could work that way, they would get squashed by their own momentum the second they tried to land on the side of anything. Unless they're using even more gas than it seems (to slow down). I wonder if the humans in that world are "improbably light" as well. Then maybe they could be like insects; able to take a fairly hard impact and keep on going like it's nothing.

Well, I imagine most people could land on flat ground with adequate training, you'd just need to use your legs as breaks. And short landings/jumps from the wall shouldn't be a real bother. Their momentum shouldn't "crush" them. A part of their training should include using your momentum to your advantage as well. And even with all of this adequate training, I don't see how humans would survive in grounds where terrain is irregular or generally unknown to the maneuver-er.

I thought it was clear I wasn't talking about landing on top of things. For that, we all have instinctive knowledge of how best to land. It's also possible to train for hard landings (i.e. when falling from above) so I imagine they'd have done so. But if you look at how quickly they swing into the sides of things (i.e. walls) without any sign of slowing down, and think about the average weight of a person before you even add in all that equipment, it should be fairly apparent that realistically they should be going splat, since you can't roll or something to at least take away some of the impact. Titan bodies are probably soft enough to be okay but buildings and trees should hurt them.

Even if it's possible, they just aren't capable of carrying enough gas to propel themselves for as long as they do in the manga. Not to mention that flying into battle with compressed gas strapped to you isn't necessarily the safest thing either...

The whole 3DMG is so impossible that even the hook throwing to swing from walls is impossible. You couldn't throw the harpoon hard enough for it to sink deep enough and even if you could the wall or whatever it stuck to wouldn't be able to hold your weight. Of course it does not make sense that in the manga they can throw it to a wall and have it stuck there but at the same time they can retract it at will apparently.

Since there are two triggers on their sword handle, I figured it worked like this:
First trigger fires the hook. Aiming the hooks is pretty much overlooked, since it's fired from your hip, so that kinda sucks.
Second trigger makes you reel in the cable, regardless if the hook is still hooked on to something.
Pressing the second trigger for a second time releases the hook. Probably via a second, smaller cable within the main cable.
Can't find any decent images of the hook, but it was shown in one of the episodes in anime that hooks can retract, which allows it to be released.

Just watched a few videos of people maneuvering with the 3DG and I never saw them putting themselves in situations where they would be squished. Take this link for example:

Here when the trainees are maneuvering, they always land on flat ground (relatively flat) and when they make turns, they anchor one of their hooks to a building and swing around them. Nothing I could see would tell me their own momentum would crash them. I really don't remember anyone jumping off of walls, though I may have overlooked something here.

Eren and Levi (as seen in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7kiEy3PPMs) use spinning to stabilize them mid-air (Or Levi could be doing it because he is simply fabulous? I don't know, it's awesome either way :3) and pretty much everyone is shown to be aware of how much momentum they have and how much they are going to travel if they ungrapple at any point during their maneuvering. I don't think 3DMG is unrealistic in this body-crushing way.

The "flaws" still stand. No canister can hold enough gas for you to go flying for a long time (though Mikasa did wear it out pretty quickly) and even if it could, the gas couldn't possibly propel you as fast as it does in the actual anime. I wonder if the canister is made of some super-light but pressure-resistant metal so that they are loaded with a lot more gas than it seems like? Then again, the gas stations soldiers used to fill their canisters don't look like they could put so much gas in such a condensed volume.

↑If it really were about Reiner (new series begins in October, right?) then I think we'll finally get to see where RBY are heading to in the main story............ Since the side story has to at least go in parallel with the main story in terms of revealed plot line, right?
