Great news on the license, though I kind of assumed it was coming. Shinegki is Kodansha's most popular title in Japan that would not be considered blasphemous in the States

Hmm, I didn't expect a live action. I never imagined it.

Anyway, I just read ch26 and didn't expect that there would be *that* inside the titan other than Eren's case.

I had suspected there would. Once Eren was shown in the neck it suddenly made sense why that, of all places, was the only weak point. I bet that every Titan, no matter what class, was a human. The Titans don't have organs of their own but use the organs of the human. Eren's struggle to control himself when he placed the rock in front of the gate makes me think that the difference between he, the female titan, and the rank in file is the ability to maintain any sense of self after transforming. The rank and file titans lose control of themselves, can not revert to a human form, and become fused with the titan body.

A live action would be strange... And aren't Eren and Mikasa the only asian guys there?

I believe Mikasa is the only Asian character. During her flashbacks to when she went to live with Eren, Mikasa's mother told her how rare Asian blood is. Since it is so rare and Eren has a European sounding first name, I am guessing he is not Asian.

Yeah, i remenber... So if they do a live action movie with a japanese cast, it won't capture the idea the manga pass about all the human race struggle.

Yeah, that part will likely be lost in the translation to film. I'm also worried that the effects budget won't be high enough to convincingly recreate the titans. Ultimately I would have preferred an anime, whether on TV or a movie.

Yeah a live action is kinda disappointing and a bit out of subject for a supernatural manga. Even if they have enough budget for the effects (which I doubt), it won't be as convincing as an anime.

As for the last chapters, they are really interesting. Seems like the titans are result of human experiments. I wonder if Eren father knew about that from the start. Maybe he even participate in them that is how he could 'transform' his son.

We already know Eren's father has the serum to turn people into Titans because he used it on Eren. It is also suspicious that he got out of town right before the colossal titan showed up. Whatever is in the basement will reveal his true involvement. No matter what his role, he is deeply involved and critical to stopping whoever is behind the titans.

Eren's father may know a lot but it doesn't mean he is directly involved. He is a scientist and his information may depend on research alone. Reinventing a (even better) serum is not impossible. Showing any kind of interest in the out side world is forbidden by the royal government, so this may be the reason for his underground activities. I just don't want to believe Eren is the son of an evil character... And remembering his attitude towards Mikasa when she lost her parents, he seemed as a very nice person.

Plus, he was crying when he gave the injection to Eren...

That is not unfeasible, Eren's father could have come across old research or secrets and recreated the serum. That could be what is hidden in the basement, forbidden literature from the past that reveals the secret of the titans. But I am not sure that will happen. Unless he is involved, there doesn't seem to be a good reason to recreate the serum and inject it into your son. Sure, you've given him the power to stop the Titans but at such a high cost both mentally and physically. He clearly gave Eren the serum to make him stronger, to stop the Titan, so his role and motivation is still questionable. He may not be evil, he may not be one of the bad guys but he is definitely a suspicious character. I am not expecting him to be a morally upstanding character.

Good point He is not Dr. Frankestein doing such things on a whim. This mystery is at the center of the story so it's only natural that possibilities are so many. Anyway I hope the truth about his father won't hurt Eren, for he already has so much on his shoulders...

I believe you are fooling yourself about this.
Eren wake up crying after dreaming and he feel so much pain when trying to remember the past that he passes out. I guess he has some traumatic memories about what happened years ago being repressed.

About the newest chapter:
Hanji is indeed a crazy woman, the image of her runing to Eren while screaming Can i touch your arm[...]I'll just touch, i promise. She was even drooling
That really made me laugh
And she came to the same conclusion that we: Eren needs some kind of clear goal to transform into a titan in addition to the self inflicted wound.


Nice the way how Eren and his new squadmates are bulding their mutual trust.
And looks like the plan commander Irvin and corporal Rivaille created is bearing fruits. Now let's see if they can capture the woman inside the titan before she manages to escape.

His father is no saint, that much is clear. There is no doubt that he has done some horrible thing to Eren, not the least of which is injecting him with the titan serum. It's hard to say if he has done any further experiments on him or if the trauma is wholly associated with the titan serum, which was administered at a young age, five years before the current timeline of the series.

I like Hanji. She's kind of creepy and weird but in such a cheerful, curious way. She's developing into one of my favorite supporting characters.

I'm looking forward to next chapter. I really want to see who or what they scrape out of the female titans neck and what secrets she can reveal, if any. The series is so new I can hardly imagine all being revealed but at least some clues as to who the real bad guys are would be nice.

Kodansha USA will be launching this series next June.

I was at the panel and the presentation mentioned my blog as a reference when Kodansha mentioned Shingeki no Kyojin. I also spoke to one of Kodansha's people and he said they are SERIOUS in pushing the manga in North America.

Isayama Hajime officially announced/admitted that he copied Muvl-Luv Alternative for Shingeki no Kyojin. I wonder if this will have impact on SnK's popularity.

I'm guessing what he took was the concept of the story which was:

Muv-Luv Unlimited takes place in an alternate world to Extra, where aliens called BETA (an acronym for "Beings of the Extra Terrestrial origin which is Adversary of human race") have invaded and mankind fights back against the alien aggressors with giant robots called Senjutsuhokousentouki (戦術歩行戦闘機?, Tactical Surface Fighter), usually referred to as simply Senjutsuki (戦術機?), as almost all conventional weapons were ineffective.

The BETA first arrived on Earth in 1973 (in China and Canada) after arriving on the Moon in 1967 and being spotted on Mars in 1958. By 2001, the world population has been reduced to 1 billion people, and most of Europe and central Asia have been wiped out. The Soviet Union, though, is still around, operating out of Alaska. When the BETA first arrived in Japan in 1998, 36 million people were dead within a week.

I don't really see this as being TOO MUCH of an impact given that Muv-Luv is still first and foremost a romance rather than a post apocalyptic survival manga. Sides extra-terrestrial beings wiping out the planet isn't anything THAT UNIQUE, Angel Notes anyone? Moreover, its not a mecha used to fight back against the titans but people. UNLESS of course Shingeki no Kyojin actually ripped lines or scenes off Muv-Luv word for word or at least a paraphrase of it then that would be quite damaging but otherwise if its just the concept of the plot I wouldn't think it to be anything too affecting, its still very much his own.

I guess that'd mean we can soon expect to get apologies from 90% of all shounen action mangakas for copying Dragon Ball and the likes
