Re: [Featured] Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

Yeah..It will be interesting to see if Rivaile will be able to keep his cool stance after see his squad obliterated.
On another note the death of Eren's comrades due to him trusting them shouldn't entirely be Eren's fault but if you reverse the reasoning they had it should apply that they didn't trust Eren either, despite them trying to be closer to him and all. In the end they were still very much afraid of the titan's power. Still I hope this arc Eren will trust in himself more and same with his possible new comrades, I'm guessing Mikasa will be joining his team soon .
They were very afraid when Eren's arm transform to grab that spoon some chapters ago. This kind of emotion wouldn't disapear so fast, so i guess you are right about that.
Still it will be hard for Eren not to blame himself after seeing the terrible consequences from his choice. (If only I had chosen to believe in myself from the start and joined the fight)

Mikasa, Reiner and Jean were between the best trainees.I say they are the logical choices.
Maybe Armin too because of his intelligence and keen mind.

Yes, I agree they would be the best choices which is why I am looking forward to them actually taking the spotlight again or excelling as they have not managed to do so with this expedition. Which is understandable since they're out to learn the process but I just wish they still managed to strut their stuff and show why they're the top trainees, especially Mikasa who was left in the background so often that I find it odd that they've not seen how capable she is. However, given that the team which were supposed to guard Eren had instructions to kill him if necessary I do wonder if Mikasa will make that team then, more so once they learn how incredibly protective Mikasa is of Eren. Then again given how dedicated Mikasa is to Eren I somehow wouldn't put it past her to find a way into the team or at least stay close to him.

Mikasa would probably go berserk once she discovers just how much danger Eren was put in this expedition acting as bait and her being given wrong information. Doubt she'll be taking that lightly.

Well, even if they learn i guess the need to fill the vacant posts inside Rivaile's squad will force Irvin to use her and the others.

But it will be curious to see Mikasa close to Rivaile...Pretty sure she didn't forgive him for beating Eren during the judgment :o

Yeah...i can picture Mikasa reacting like this :p

LOL

Picked this up after Kait recommended it.

Ended up reading the damn series from 12am till morning.

This thing is so messed up and so cool. Although I wouldn't be surprised by a Claymore-esque twist with the Giants being products of human reseaerch of an even larger organisation or somesuch.

It has kind of become the successor to FMA, at least for me. I needed a good, dark, deep shounen. I expect both of you to post here regularly :amuse

That is my theory right now: all titans were once humans. The mindless, rampaging titans could not control their power or retain self awareness. Eren nearly lost control before plugging the whole in Wall Maria, maybe the mindless titans were never able to come back from the edge, like he did.

Great twist, after all of that talk of trusting your comrades Eren's faith results in a quick death. Lesson learned: trust your teammates but also trust yourself and your own instincts. As others have said I was a bit shocked that all of the new characters were slaughtered like it was nothing. As with Sena Hayase, I am impressed that Isayama was willing to say that trusting your friends is not everything, considering how much of a cliche that has become.

I agree that some combination of Eren's fellow trainees will join Rivaile's squad. At a minimum Mikasa would make sense as the elite of the trainees. Armin too, as a tactician. I am not sure everyone will join but it would be nice.

Only issue with Mikasa is that Rivalle's squad still has a special duty to kill Eren if push comes to shove and that would impede the idea of having Mikasa join the group despite how good she is. Still perhaps because she is so talented, and many other experienced and talented squad members have been killed, that they may make an exception or something with a twist (that or she puts on a show to get in) since knowing her she'd definitely want to get close to Eren.

Re: [Featured] Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

I feel as if the special duty to kill Eren is designed to give a sense of order to the people and the squad to allow Eren to exist for now (It's akin to saying Eren is not a threat because he's being supervised), meaning Rivaille and Irwin do not actually intend to kill Eren in the event that he goes berserk in titan form. Objectively speaking, his existence is very valuable for many reasons. Rivailles, Hanji, and that superior of Rivailles are the odd ones who do not show fear at Eren's titan ability. They may be the ones who understand Eren the most besides Mikasa and Armin. :^_^

I think there's a silent understanding between Mikasa and Rivaille to safeguard Eren as weird as it may be, after Rivaille beats up Eren in the courtroom he looks at Mikasa. Going by that conclusion, its reasonable to assume that Rivaille is aware that Mikasa cares deeply for Eren.

Chapter 28 left us in a nice cliffhanger. When I first found out about this manga, I also couldn't stop reading for hours. It was just that interesting and new to me. It's the new FMA for me too!:D

I always found that scene to be Mikasa's killing intent, or anger, which was basically so bad it could actually stop Rivalle cold since he realizes how dangerous it could be if he continued beating up Eren. Either way you slice it that has to account for something when Rivalle who puts himself at the line of danger quite frequently and for a long time to actually consider a sense of danger emanating from Mikasa certainly shows she's not someone to mess with. At the very least there isn't an understanding especially since once Mikasa does manage to talk to Eren she has nothing but hatred for Rivalle, and only thoughts of getting him back for hurting Eren, she didn't see his courtroom scene to be an act.

If Eren goes berserk having Mikasa and Armin as squad members increases the odds that he can be calmed and restrained without being killed. I think that Irvin and Rivalle will kill Eren only as a last resort, he is to valuable an asset to lose. Armin in particular can restrain Eren's more headstrong impulses.

I also think that claiming that they will kill Eren was only politics. I doubt Irvin or Rivalle would be willing to kill him unless he can not be restrained and returned to human form. And if he does go berserk, they are the highest authorities likely to see it. Eren is not going to turn into a titan within the walls again.

Not quite as good a cliffhanger as chapter 27 but the upcoming battle should be phenomenal.

Boo to everyone who did not have to wait months between volumes :p

God Dammit what did I just get myself into.

Also I've half forgotten their names already. That's what you get for reading stuff from 12.am into the hours of the morning

:darn

----

*after reading 28*

:lmao At that random scene with the pants-pissing.

Anyways looks like our theorisation is somewhat correct; there's another group of humans involved in this; and they have 3D gear too.

It's looking awfully like the Claymore situation, maybe this is some form of war?

Also How did Rivalle talk to Eren? He wasn't there right? Or was that a memory that I missed from before? :darn

Re: [Featured] Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

Does anyone here think, that this woman titan is Annie)? ( http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/18/4 ) It makes sense, why she didnt kill Armin, and why she didnt join scouting legion... And on one page, that Titan looks really simillar ( http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/27/26 ). Im sorry if someone mentioned it before, I havent read all posts here.
Hrm, you make a good point.

Although it might just be the art...

If so it opens up a very different theory

so the titans are actually the result of some other subgroup of the remaining humans.

Now the only explanation I would have for this is that the subgroup in question is related to the king and royal family / is elite
and thus is trying to cull the population.

Although that doesn't explain where the non-special (non-anomaly) giants come into the story...

24 hours have passed from the release of the latest Edited Manga so you don't really need to use spoiler tags but if you feel you want to ok (theories are also fine not to have spoiler tags assuming of course you're referring to older chapters and not unscanlated chapters)... It would be appreciated if you've read through the thread a bit since this topic was already debated quite extensively earlier and in more detail. The thread isn't that long yet so read around as the posts were quite good. Long story short yes there are those that think female titan is Annie while there is another side that doesn't however it was agreed best to just take a wait and see how the scenario plays out as we still don't have anything conclusive.

Theories on identity of female giant start at page 12 again please do read through the thread before you suggest any theories so that you can build up on what has already been examined by earlier posters and adding what you can to make it more convincing in light of new information or what you feel was missed out. I encourage this even more since the quality of posts for Shingeki no Kyoujin thread has overall been quite high.

I still can't understand what humans that reside in the walls gain from this! Maybe the religious group thinks it is a god power to give judgement... It is irrational, but thay seem pretty dumb already.... And I don't believe the guys breaking the walls nowadays are the same that created titans, it has passed more than 100 years! Why starts this now? Maybe some scientists discovered this now and some big shot in the goverment got an idea....

Anyway.... Anyone else thinks that maybe not the whole world have titans? That maybe those poor isolated guys are only one nation or one continent?

The walls represent the illusion of safety, something psychologically very important to people. Throughout history humans have gone to great length to reduce risk and provide some sense of security against forces outside of human control. The walls could be seen as a metaphor for the ways people have tired to protect themselves from uncertainty. Whether that is increasing homeland security after 9-11, financial analytics, ritual, prayer, there are many examples of "protective walls" in real life. As in Shingeki, most practical, real life examples can at best reduce risk and protect from common place misfortune. But even the best security, best risk prevention can not prevent unforeseen disasters. Nothing could have prepared Japan for the magnitude of the Fukushima earthquake. Nothing could have prepared the U.S. for 9-11 any better than the characters in Shingeki could have prepared for the colossal titan.

Like Shingeki, there are many who would hide behind the illusion security. They would sacrifice freedom and happiness for the psychological relief that the illusion provides. Characters like Eren, or Irvin and Rivalle, would rather take the risk and find renewed hope in freedom, rather than live in constant fear behind walls of their own creation.

Re: [Featured] Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

Anyone motivated to help me finding a nice Shingeki double page for the best Art piece award ?
There is the first titan apparition of course
but in the end it doesn't feel that good, this one seems better

I like this one also too

And there are also great single page

I like the single page the most, personally. The female titan lifting Armin's hood is such a chilling scene. Her gaze, her lips curling up as she looks at him is one of the scariest scenes I have seen.

Caught up in a single reading. I'm impressed :o I picked this up randomly and..

Anyway, for me to catch up on chapter 28 where so many characters that I started to like just died like that :XD
There's a lot of things for me to read in this thread and for me to catch up with the theories. I agree with some but I really
don't like the idea of "humans using titans body as weapon to fight humans"..as far as it goes , I rather take the titans..as mindless titans..
except for a few exceptions. I find it scarier that way.
The constant survival game that the humans play with the titans...I'm surprised by how interesting this premise is..and scary too.

Glad you liked it so much Zeltrax!

"humans using titans body as weapon to fight humans"..as far as it goes , I rather take the titans..as mindless titans..

My theory is that all of the "mindless" titans lost their human identity, most self control, and the ability to return to human form. Remember when Eren had to plug the whole in wall Marie? While he was going berserk he had slipped into a revelry about being home, with his family on a warm day. He was just barely called back by Armin. This is what I think happens to anyone with a weak will turned into a titan: they permanently slip into a warm, safe mental place and never come back. Titans who retain a sense of self and ability to return to human form like the woman, the colossal titan, and Eren are exceptions rather than the rule.
