Why would people think Armin is a girl, when Armin is clearly a male name? I wouldn't mind Armin being a girl, if he were given a girl's name and was established from the beginning that he was a girl.

It's stupid, really; Armin isn't macho enough and shows 'girly' traits such as lack of confidence or cowardice (they aren't girly traits, but try and tell that to our sexist 'macho' internet warriors), thus he is labeled as a girl.

Of course, it's a male name.Then again, Armin IS a shortcut having become a standard name for the male sex.
Originally, Armin was indeed a shortcut for a name of both sexes.
Just how Alex can be for Alexander and Alexandra, Armin was for Arminius and it's female equivelant Armina/Armine.

Not saying armin is a girl, just a nice coincidence seeing Armina/Armine literally means Warrior Maiden.

Didn't the author once made a joke that Armin is a girl? At least I saw that somewhere yesterday that someone wrote that the author said that Armin is a girl for the joke.
