I think they have Shinsoo inside them, the so called "Shinsoo pool". Thinking on calories, we get calories and oxygen from the environment yes, but we store them inside our bodies and transform them into different substances as we live. Same might bê with Shinsoo, since It works like the Tower's oxygen.
People do breath oxygen but it actually seems to be the case that for the most part people have no capacity to store shinsoo within them. People simply control shinsoo around them and the entire combat system is based around that. As in. people use bangs. Then the amount of bangs and the amount of shinsoo in each bang along with how much their control is reduced for each bang determines output. The only known instance of storing shinsoo for combat remains bam's loop. Which was only possible because bam's shinsoo control does not diminish as he increases the amount of shinsoo he is using. In that sense, for most fighters in TOG storing shinsoo is actually counterproductive.

Why counterproductive?
Isn t the idea that people can control a X amount of shinsu and therefore the more bangs they use the less shinsu they can put in each bang?

However people like Baam and other chosen people can control as much shinsu as they want so they don t have this limitation. And Baam's loop is a smart way to make it easier for Baam to supply shinsu to his techniques.

However I admit that the concept of the infinite loop to storage shinsu is a bit weird to me and I might be thinking things wrong.

Everyone has its own Shinsoo flow inside its body. It's used for Shinsoo Reinforcement and techniques like the Floral Butterfly one involve manipulation of the internal Shinsoo flow of the target.

This also applies to Body Reinforcement (신체강화, shinchae gahnghwa; or "Physical Enhancement"). Every living organism has an individual flow of shinsu. By using this flow, one can heal themselves or others, or grant numerous abilities.

Of course, the opposite is also possible. If you strengthen or speed up the flow of shinsu within your own body, you can strengthen and speed up your own body, but you may also inflict a proportional amount of internal damage on yourself. This also applies to others. If you control your enemy's flow of shinsu beyond its limit, your enemy will be reduced to nothing but a skin, like a popped water balloon.

Basically people have techniques they can perform better due to their natural abilities. Like people with high tension have the ability to do better spheres than other people. For exemple, Eduan has the ability to do powerful ice or electrical spears with less effort than he can do other techniques. However, if he wanted he could do completly unrelated techniques to his spears but it would cost him more.
Basically shinsu and shapes and qualitites is like nen. If you are and enhancer theres a certain percent you can be good at emiter, conjurer, special etc,

Take AA for example, his ideal shinsu quality is ice and his shape is a spear, but he can use lightning, water to a certain degree but will have 0% chance of properly using fire under normal circumstances because ice is completely opposite from fire but the gap was brigded when he had an item that can make that possible (fire fish). Like how an enhancer has 0% capabilities to use special abilities with nen.

As far as I know bam only has a shinsu shape but his shinsu quality is generic like everyone that uses shinsu in the tower - water. But, SIU said that viole derives from the color violet and not the instrument and why would SIU say that? Like how color signifies something about that persons shinsu, bams quality if he finds it will come with a different color and I see that color being violet/purple

The point of this I would maintain is finding stuff your shinsoo is suited for. Which can be any shape, any quality and presumably most techniques. The only thing that confuses me is lighthouses... Since those seem to be complex computers. I suppose its technically not impossible for a shinsoo quality to be a lighthouse but it would be weird if your shinsoo is innately suited to making complex space bending computers... Or observers for that matter.
As far as techniques go I think they most likely go with someones shinsu quality. Imagine rak with his rock shinsu saying learning a water make technique. But for irregulars, techniques are from you inner beast. Jahads cosmos technique is either something he created himself or he learnt from his inner demon
--- Double Post Merged, ---

For different shinsu qualities like wind I place my guess that its made by making the shinsu accelerate in a certain direction than that create moment and than because of the high acceleraion of the shinsu wind is formed.

Ice is made by decreasing the temperature of the shinsu to freezing levels than solidifying it to take an ice shape

Electricity by adding volts in shinsu in a certain area using the electricity in your body until it sparks alot and than it overflows like a khun would do it

Fire is by increasing the temperature in the surrounding shinsu and ultimately within until is reaches boiling levels and becomes incredibly hot than use your imagination to make it look like fire

It is indeed a bit weird how a person interacts with Shinsoo. It comes from everywhere on the Tower, so It is safe to assume It comes from the person's body as well as the vacuum inside of them. I've since long theorized that Shinsoo traits are related to one's personal characteristics, and maybe this is related to the Idea of abiogenesis, the Idea of a life force that spawns everywhere and creates different life depending on the environmental conditions. But instead, for Shinsoo and materials, Shinsoo is the life force and the things created are the materials (Crystal, water, fire and such).

For instance, AA has a cool personality and an overall Blue color pallette on himself because his "Nature" is what spawns the cold trait Shinsoo, even before spawning any Shinsoo he is like that, his Shinsoo traits derive from his characteristics.

There are Shinsoo Control abilities that manipulate the Shinsoo of the environment, but overall, unless you are a Wave Controller, one should stick with their own internal Shinsoo and no further.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

On FoD the environmental Shinsoo is Very dim, yet people still live there and don't choke automatically, because their bodies still generate Shinsoo. Fighting positions use the Shinsoo from within, Wave Controllers and Light bearers Control Shinsoo that isn't theirs.

@Jack Van Burace the reason jahad and the FH can play great fisherman roles is because of their superb shinsu reinforcement skills.
Eg, when bam encountered data jahad using shimwonryu he says that his shinwonryu was gathering all the shinsu into his body and exploding it in his body...causing light. Shinwonryu is special because it gathers all the shinsu in the surrounding area into itself. If bam were to master shinwonryu and use in into his body reinforcement his body will be constantly sucking in shinsu, add it with his infinite shinsu, it'll be like a never ending bang in his body that draws shinsu and therefore makes his body strong. If he does that constantly his body will become automatically strong as a result which I conclude as how the FHs have monstrosity of bodies because of this type of shinsu reinforcement.

So by the time he becomes a ranker he should be able to play a fisherman role perfectly

If you think about it, the entire combat system is actually structured around the idea that characters for the most part can't store shinsoo. All characters have a max amount of shinsoo they can control. And most characters experience a loss in shinsoo control as they approach their max shinsoo. So storing shinsoo is counterproductive for most characters because the stored amount would come from their max shinsoo, and thus have less available for other stuff, and their shinsoo control would be reduced.

The loops are a loophole for this on two fronts. The first is that they are self sustaining so it doesn't take from the pool of shinsoo a person can control. Even bam has a max amount of shinsoo he can control at a time and he can't go over (which is his max amount of bangs basically) And the other one is exclusive to people like bam, his shinsoo blessing means he doesn't lose control as he stores more shinsoo. So he can just keep pumping shinsoo into the self sustaining loop. In this sense, anyone can create a self sustaining loop but it would come at the cost of shinsoo control.... So it would become worthless once his shinsoo control gets to zero.

I think traits are opposite of each other, having certain dimensions we can assign to each and every Shinsoo.

Tension/Density (Orb) - Lightness/Speed (Spear)
Burst (Dansulsa) - Control (Wonsulsa)
Hot (Fire) - Cold (Ice)
Hardness (Solid) - Malleability (Air)

Raw Shinsoo should be average on all these parameters and Special Quality Shinsoo have one of these traits on extreme, resulting in a special rare ability.

Ice for instance is lighter than water (less dense) and yet It is solid. Electricity isn't solid at all but isn't dense either. As a result, both fit into a Spear. Bam's Shinsoo is likely neutral regarding temperature, but both his and Evankhell having High Tension will shape their Shinsoo in an Orb. A Shinsoo that is average on other fronts but excels in hardness, like Rock, becomes a Shield. A Burst, light and hard Shinsoo with neutral temperature should be what Androssi has going on for her. And so on.

I think either way ppl are limited to controlling Shinsoo by their stamina: one needs to gather and convert Shinsoo into a specific use, which costs stamina. However, I do think people are usually limited to their own body's Shinsoo too, unless they are WCs able to Control the Shinsoo of the environment. Even having stamina non WCs are likely limited to the amount of Shinsoo they can put to use through their bodily limit. Bam has a weak body compared to a High Ranker, therefore he needs to gather more Shinsoo from the environment, costing way more stamina that he lacks. Using the loops he stores them previously, bypassing both his stamina issues and bodily limit of Shinsoo.

Shinsoo Reinforcement is great but several characters have strong bodies without Shinsoo. Data Zahard used Internal Quality Shinsoo Manipulation and absorbed it. Baam seems better at using it externally, Data Zahard was impressed to see him put Shinwonryu in his Orb and said that he never saw this before. Which implies that V couldn't do it, same for Blosom and his other companions.

In the end it's all about talent. There are so many variables(Myun, So, number of Bangs, management, Flow, Reverse Flow, Resistence etc). Baam even has that special trait which allows him to create as many Baangs as he wants without losing power.

I honestly don't think SIU has gone that way with regards to shinsoo. And as far as I can tell, the greater then amount and concentration of shinsoo, the stronger than attack is. No exceptions. So both wind and lightning and orbs simply benefit from higher amounts and concentration of shinsoo. If you make wind with low amounts and concentration of shinsoo then you simply have a weak wind.

Stamina definitely plays a role in shinsoo control. As in, if you continually make bangs and throw them, eventually you get tired. And even for reinforcement you ultimately need to grab shinsoo from around. That said, I don't think bam would be held back that much by his stamina in that regard. Even much tougher high rankers still use reinforcement pretty often as its basically a lifeline and it doesn't seem like reinforcement is specially draining.

As for the loops, I am not entirely convinced yet that bam can use them for just about any technique. The loops, convenient as they are, don't or shouldn't allow bam to control more shinsoo than he can at a time. As in, if his max shinsoo is 30 bangs, then even with loops his actual limit is still 30 bang. even if within the loops he has enough shinsoo for 3000 bangs. Bam's use of the loops so far doesn't include techniques which require a ton of finesse, he is basically just hosing down enemies. All bam does is regulate the stream output.

Agreed with the later part, but regarding what you said earlier about reinforcement being a Quality, I think you might have a point in there: perhaps some people have more 'talent' (If you prefer tô call It that way) to using Shinsoo internally, others externally. Why did the clicker send Miseng to use a bursting kind of Shinsoo as Reinforcement instead of as an atk like Kallavan does? Should Kallavan be using his as Reinforcement for optimal effects too? I think certain Shinsoo are better suited even for internal/external purposes.

Indeed, higher amounts of Shinsoo equals more damage, but mind the following example: an axe and a saw. Both blades work well in their intended uses, but one is focused on weight to make each blow count, while the other divides the cutting ability among several smaller blades working continuously. That's the difference I'm talking about when I say Orbs are High Tension and Spears are low Tension/High Speed. Orbs are cohese and can work defensively, as well as amplifying Shinsoo use. However, Spears can reach farther and likely breach a defense better with a focused blow (the orb sort of "showers" the area with Shinsoo, the opposite of 'focus').

Each optimal use has its perks, imo. Doesn't contradict the "more Shinsoo= more dmg" Idea. Jahad's Golden Shinsoo for instance is likely similar to Androssi's needle like "burstsy" Shinsoo in shape, but It manifests as humongous needles, unlike her tiny ones. Even if taking a long shape requires less tension, doesn't mean It Will have less impact because It can take as much Shinsoo as the other shapes, only less cohese and more loosely arranged.

Kallavan does use shinsoo reinforcement though. During the fight against white a distinction was made between kallavan using it and not using it. I don't think the EoB is specifically shinsoo reinforcement though. So far the EoB appears to work via releasing an incredible amount of consecutive explosions from kallavan's fists...

As for internal/external stuff... I am not sure of what to make of that. As far as I can tell the only time that has come up is when eduan or zahard used internal quality control to give themselves a boost.

My main objection there is the idea that there would be type of attacks that benefit from lower tension. I just don't think that is how shinsoo works. A spear with higher tension will simply be stronger than one with lower tension, in all cases. In the case of the giant needles and spears used by zahard... I would think they are simply larger but actually maintain more or less the same shinsoo. Hence why its a more dangerous attack. Sacrificing shinsoo concentration for size could have its uses if you specifically need to cover a large area but you'd be sacrificing destructive capacity. An easier example: 2 bangs with the same amount of shinsoo but one is twice as large as the other. Clearly the smaller and more concentrated one would win.

I'm thinking Tension isn't really concentration/Density. I am lacking a proper word, but think of gravity for an instant: higher gravity objects can't have non spherical shapes because their gravity pushes It to that form. Only small asteroids can have several shapes. But gravity isn't exactly what I mean, only the attraction influence on the shape that It does.

Now think of water's surface tension. That isn't due to higher Density, weight or volume, but due to the hydrogen bonds, a specific characteristic of water molecules. It makes water so cohese that It forms droplets that defy gravity itself. When you fill a Cup It can go a little beyond its limits without overflooding. That's what I actually think Shinsoo Tension is. And its effects on Shinsoo shape work like gravity's effects on celestial objects' form.

Molecules without a surface tension are freer to form non symetrical bodies, such as a rod, where the length is much higher than other dimensions. However, to form a cohese droplet these low tension molecules are no good. Same goes to Crystal cleavages: some crumble, some form layers when they break, some form Spikes. The exact properties of the Basic molecules result in a different behavior of the body constructed with them.

In ToG's case, I think the "molecules" in Bam and Evk's Shinsoo tend to be more cohese, forming a harder to disperse mass of Shinsoo, while bad for shaping like a weapon because It takes more effort to fight against its cohesion to put them like that. While low Tension "molecules" such as AA's should be easier to shape, but less likely to stick to each other with same attraction. They in turn are better as attack moves (Mascheny's Lightning Spear) than as shields (Blue Oar/Endless Sky).

Take magnetic jelly: If you shape It like whatever It Will slowly return to a more round shape. Then take non magnetic jelly, shape It into a Sphere, and over time It Will "melt" into a flat shape. This is Tension to me.

Edit: the magnetic has High Tension, the non magnetic has low tension.

@Jack Van Burace, Edahn said that when one uses a shinsu quality/shape fitting him, the tension increases drastically (Khun's ice spear >>> Khun's normal bang). So, I don't think SIU thought about it this much when he introduced these concepts.

Ok but... I don't see why you think that's what tension is. It's literally not the definition as presented in the series and even if you argue its a mistranslation what you are suggesting is not useful in explaining anything that has happened in the story.

Tension as defined in the story: The ability to pack a lot of power into a bang. (also note that tension isn't the concentration of shinsoo within a bang, tension is the skill to pack shinsoo into a bang. In that sense, people have tension, but bangs don't have tension, they have shinsoo concentration).

And then eduan explains that with higher tension does. As in, he makes a particularly large bang that explodes and releases a ton of power. There is plenty about those chapters that seem like weird and unclear translations (like attribute/shape/quality stuff) but in turn the tension part is 100% clear. Tension absolutely does not refer to what you are explaining here. And as I said earlier, your definition explains nothing regarding what we have seen so far. Rather than that, it makes things entirely nonsensical...

Bangs remain the basic unit of power people in the tower use. Bangs are required for shinsoo techniques and I daresay that they also remain the basis for manifesting shinsoo attributes like ice spear. In that sense, if you have higher tension then what you make with bangs will plainly be better and stronger than if you have lower tension. Including the various spears we have seen. A spear made by someone with higher tension will simply be better than a spear made by someone with lower tension.

I dont t think this is very acurate. Shinsu isn t a bang. Bang is like 1 action that can be performed with shinsu. However a person can use all the shinsu they can manipulate into a single bang...

In an analogy, each bang is a machine and shinsu is fuel. And I think baam can control infinite shinsu but he can t gather infinite shinsu instatly (at the moment) So in the analogy baam has an infinite deposit of fuel but he can t fill his deposit instantly so there is a limit to the amount of shinsu he can use at each moment. With his loop he gather fuel into his deposit that is easier to use than fuel he gather from the atmosphere when using techniques.

As you said, for most people the shinsu loop is useless because the amount of shinsu they can use and that they can gather in na moment is similar.

I think the first problema with the EoB is the translation. If I remember right the fan translation of it was essence of fighting.
So first and foremost the EoB is something that should teach people how to fight and therefore improve the phisical body of the user.
Afterwards things get messy. Is it an item that can be ignited like the thorn? Some item that changes the shinsu of the person?
I think we can discard it giving the ability of using a specific technique from what we have seen so far.

I didn't say shinsoo is a bang though. Bangs are simply an unit of shinsoo so to speak. And yeah, people can combine all the bangs they can into a single bang... dunno what your point is here.

As far as I can tell, every person having a fixed maxed amount of shinsoo they can control at a time is pretty much written in stone, mechanics wise. As much for bam as zahard. As in, even zahard has a limit regarding how much shinsoo he can gather via however many bangs and control. Maybe this will change in the future but as of now there isn't evidence of it. The point of the loop however is not that its easier, its that it allows bam to attack enemies with more than his current max shinsoo. Since it doesn't take space from the max amount of shinsoo he can control and his shinsoo control doesn't diminish with more shinsoo.

And... that is accurate but not quite the reason the loop is useless to other people. its not impossible for others to create a self sustaining loop. That's just highly compressed shinsoo. but at some point the shinsoo control reduction is simply too costly for this to be beneficial.

I don't think the EoB actually teaches people how to fight. And if anything, kallavan was worthy of it because he was already tough. If you look at the bits we see of the fight between jinsung and kallavan in the past, its fairly clear that kallavan's body was already monstrously strong. As far as I can tell kallavan's body is his own, the EoB in turns provides him with a stream of layered explosions to attack with. At its best my assumption is that this is basically explosions thrown at people with the full might of kallavan's reinforced ridiculously strong body.

Let me ask one question then: is It harder to Control one Bang with more Shinsoo than several bangs with less Shinsoo, the other way around, or are they the same?

Not sure, though I suppose i lean towards more bangs being harder to control in general. Could change depending on the circumstances and the specks of the user as well.

I think controlling several Baangs with less Shinsoo is harder because you need to multitask. That's where your Shinsoo management skills matter.

If you can create several Baangs, it means you already know how to create one.
