Serialized In: Big Comic Spirits
Genre: Historical, Action

A female, Chinese warrior having faced death to many times becomes the most brutal soldier, Shut Hell, the Evil One. On the Mongol side is Yurul, a scholarly ten year old prince, fascinated by the history and writing of China. The art, writing, and characters are amazing. If your a fan of Vagabond you'll love it.

I read this on a random whim and ended up really getting into it.

I love how badass Shut Hell is. It's a pretty rare trait in a female character IMHO.

I hope we get to see more of Yurul and Harabal in later chapters. I'm really liking those two too.

Glad to see someone else into it!

Shut Hell is an intriguing character. She's like a female Musashi from the early volumes of Vagabond, maybe more menacing then he. The fight with Bektel was awesome, her gauging out his eye and biting off his ear was crazy.

I read it on a whim and ended up really getting into it. I even checked out some book on Mongols in the library just to tide me over until the next chapter is released.

Her fight with Bektel was the best so far, I think. I hope she comes up against another big bad so we can see her fight like that again.

The more I read the most curious I am as to how Shut Hell died in the first place as well as just what was it that brought Sudou back in time to be her.

Raws for chapter 14 and 15 are out! Hopefully Edited Mangas will be out soon.

Re: [Featured] Shut Hell by Itoh Yu

If anyone had not realized yet, like Berserk or Hunter x Hunter, only ten chapters and one volume of Shut Hell come out a year. Volume 4 came out in April, Edited Mangas for the first chapter (number 23), came out yesterday.

Re: [Featured] Shut Hell by Itoh Yu

Gotta say I really like the style and the protagonist, but overall the series is a bit disappointing to me. It sometimes feels not quite elaborated... dunno, hard to put in words. Too rash, too superficial, too sudden. It's definitly worth to have a look at it, but there are better Seinen.
But since it's short so far it's not so hard to make your own judgement

I think the themes are very well established though: culture, history, and learning are constantly threatened by fear, anger, censorship, ignorance, or the encroachment of outside forces. Parallels can be drawn between the mongols and globalization or Tokyo's recent Youth Healthy Development Ordinance restricting content in manga.
