NOTE: This is not, by any mean an attempt to ruin the SnK story to anyone, and it certanly didn’t
ruin it for us. In fact, the obsession we had with both the manga and anime drove us to dig
deeper and deeper. The idea itself is too good to not be shared with you.

There are many theories and alternative histories about Atlantis in the text below that we believe were inspiration for SnK:

Atlantis vs The Walls http://i.imgur.com/RyPABxc.jpg

- About 12000 years ago, there existed a great island in the Atlantic ocean, populated by an
advanced and sophisticated civilization. They were prosperous thanks to natural sources.
The city of Atlantis was located in the middle of the island. Surounded by three concentric
circles filled with water, thus enabling ships to pass through, to the center. Outside the
city itself, in the second circle, lied fertile ground, wich was watered by a network of
cannales that suplied water from the mountains. For generations, the Atlantians lived a
peaceful and simple life. But, in time, they started changing, and soon power and
corruption took over. This story is, universaly, on of the oldest mythis in human history.
From Plato, ancinet Egypt, Romans, to Nazis, Atlantis was always a mysterious and thought-provoking idea. I belive the whole universe and storyline in SnK is settled in Atlantis and
it is a chronology of events that lead to it's ultimate demise. There are a few books and authors that talk about this idea, mainly, this article by Mark Hammons and Geofffrey Keyte, whose works are often connected to the texts of „America’s most famous prophet“ Edgar Cayce.
The story is: "Atlantis is physically located in between Sargasso sea, the Bimini plateau on the south, and the Azores on the far east. This location is close to the island of Bermuda, and if we use the map with the wall sizes (http://davidmear.com/snk/map/), we can see that the circles fit in a triangle that formed by the coordinates mentioned above. The Atlantians were artificially created adaptations of Earth's hominides, with a four-dimensional consciousness. They were, so to speak, "imported" to our dimension. Atlantian's conciousness evolved from less material than ours; from an aetherial body, which was a form of a 4-dimensional consciousness in a 3-dimensional space (shifters = 4d maneuver gear :derp)
They lived for centuries, some of them even millennia, bonding for the physical world. And the more they bonded, the less was their life-span. They discovered that the physical body can be regenerated in both dimensions: 4-D, where they changed time-space, and 3-D where they pushed the limits of physical organism. At last, wishing they could create an immortal physical form, they used crystal powers to tap into biomorphic energy and connect the 3-D with the 4-D plain. The goal to find the remains of Atlantis is not just in finding ancient objects. There are a lot of those, in fact. The real wish is to find the legendary Atlantian technology. Among the discoveries, is, for example, a perfect weather control. They used weather to change the climate in different parts of the island, allowing for a rich and lush natural world. The real technological accomplishments are much more complex. One of their devices was a „Probability gate“ wich used the time-space dimension to power itself. This device allowed the Atlantians to travel between a 3-D and a 4-D plain. American army was seriously interested in the Atlantis myth during the 40’s when they found a strange device in a dessert in New Mexico. Connected to some of Tesla’s classified projects, they concluded that the machine can make people and things „invisible“. Actually, transporting them to another space and time.“

- SnK is, maybe, based on oldest legend in our history, since the myth is as old at least as ancient Egypt.

- This is, roughly, an explanation to the whole universe, the Titans and everything.
To begin: Eren is Atlantian. He can't remember it because of the serum he was given as a
child. Him ,Annie, Berthold and Reiner are siblings. This is why he is never seen as a real
threat by them. His existance in the world of humans is a form of punishment. If we go back
to Atlantis, we know that Poseidon is the ruler of the sea and the creator of Atlantis, thus being the one that sends Eren to Earth as a mortal. In the mythology, Atlas was the mortal son of Poseidon, set to carry the whole weight of the world on his shoulders (both the courthouse scene, and the rock-carrying are symbolic). If the Atlantis theory is true, it can also explain the humans that live inside the walls. Some of them are better at survival than others, main examples being Mikasa and Levi. They are "Oriental", presumably a race-mix between Eskimo Native-Americans and Aztec civilizations that lived near the location of Atlantis. They are not Atlantians, but
their skills and cunning are above-human. This is why they are important, because that’s
how they represent the human aspect. 'Monkey Trouble' is a primitive human, since the whole story could be set long before actual humans evolved in this timeline. His presence could be a mere coincidence, because there are evidence that suggest early, primitive, ape-like humans populated the territory around Central America. His connection with Atlantis could be that he is, in fact, the first to make contact with a race of supreme beings.

- The Atlantis myth also tells of a "Timekeeper crystal", a sort of Atlantis-hard drive, on witch the whole history is saved. This crystal is said to be sealed and forgotten somewhere under the sea. The "2000 years from now" could be a hint that the whole story is, actually, a projection from the crystal, shown to the future humans that found it. -We took the maps from the book covers of manga vol. 1 (there is a whole thread about what’s written here: http://calorescence.tumblr.com/post/51450703198/did-you-know-the-inside-covers-of-the-japanese , basically the Titans first appeared in the Old land and
only a few survivors came to a new land where the walls were already prepared for them. Are
these the wall-cultists?) and compared them with the location given in the article. The map
shows an island near the coast of Florida. http://i.imgur.com/Q2M553r.jpg
TL;DR: The Titan bodies are "Avatars" of 4-D beings (Atlantians), and shifters can control them.
Since the supreme Atlantan (we'll call him Poseidon) knows that the continent is doomed, he
sent his least favourite son to be punished.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed my first post on this forum :)

The theory in general is interesting, but I do not agree with certain points ,such as the '4D maneuver gear'. I don't think that your idea of a 4th dimension is entirely clear and I could explain it (it would take a lot of time), but to make it short, there's nothing 'four dimensional' about Titan shifters. As for the 'in 2000 years to you part', I disagree, as Atlantis is supposed to have been destroyed at about 10000 BC. Also, according to the legend, Atlantis had a very powerful fleet, while all humans(or maybe most, as we don't know much about Reiner, Bertl, Annie and Ymir) have never even HEARD of the sea. As for the rest, good job, and welcome to the forum.

......never heard of the sea huh?

Here's a question to everyone, are you aware how Ragnarok of the Norse ended?

Take a guess first in your post then look.

The World sinks into the sea.

Unless you believe that Atlantis not only existed, but also had colonies throughout the globe and came into contact with pretty much all other tribes and peoples that existed back then, I don't really see how Ragnarok has anything to do with Atlantis. We know that the manga was influenced, at least in part, by Norse mythology, but that has been discussed to death. And I'm sorry to say this, but I'm not really getting what you are trying to say.

Ragnarok is; for all intents and purposes; the Norse Atlantis.

.......seriously?
I'm sorry but that totally is your own fault cause it cannot possibly be clearer that both Atlantis and the Norse World had both sank into the sea and the story after reading the OP might have influences from Atlantis as well seeing the images.

So I looked up the Article.

and what the hell?

Clear Quartz Crystal:

Spacetime is the unification of space and time as a 4D continuum, combining space and time to form an abstract Universe and a Manifold of events as described by a Coordinate System.

I meant besides the sinking part, since that is almost common knowledge in these forums. But, yes, it is my fault. The connection between Atlantis and Ragnarok may not be a coincidence, as I have watched several documentaries about Atlantis, and if I am to believe them, the Norse, Mayans, Aztecs and several others had some sort of Atlantis-like legend in their mythology and the story was almost the same. They even said that Ragnarok was in fact an exaggerated version of the legend of Atlantis. If that's true then it doesn't matter if Atlantis or Ragnarok influenced SnK, since one of them was based off the other.

To make it short, what quoux said.
