I thought about creating this thread to specifically discuss this point since we end up being off topic in the chapter discussion because of it. Some find that SW is too broken, others don't. My reasons for finding it broken are:
1- It's supposed to grant omniscience. I don't think Ugo or Ithnan explained it, but to me it's not knowledge about magic , but more about entering people's rukh and being able to know the memories recorded in them. That's what I think Ithnan was referring to, not that it would allow Aladdin to instantly know all magic. And that is what Al Thamen are interested in, because if they know all the memories of a person then they can make her easily fall into depravity. It is an overpowered ability nonetheless, because of that very fact. It allowed Aladdin to stop Dunya from falling, it also allowed him to defeat the medium but I'll get to this in the next point.
2-In Magnostadt it is really what defeated the medium, without it and without Titus being there with Mogamett, the medium would have most likely continued to regenerate himself, even after the attack from all the vessel users. If it's going to be used everytime a medium is created, then it is overpowered.
3-Solomon was seen having it on his forehead, so there's a possibility that it is the power that sealed Illah and Al Thamen. This means that Aladdin isn't using it to its full extent, so there's no doubt that it is a very effective tool if Aladdin was to use it to the fullest. It might even be able to make black rukh into white again.
So what are your thoughts?
