Re: Naruto 445 Spoiler Discussion Thread

Regarding spoilers, I think that too much strictness can lessen the fun. Some fakes are amusing, and increase the amount of topics to talk about. Indeed on some boards spoilers have been tagged as fake and deleted, only to turn out to be real.

Anyway I like the old system better. If it ain't broken (really broken), don't fix it.
I agree. But many get annoyed because of their anticipation for the next chapter and seeing the thread fill up and it only be fakes is annoying.

However they are funny -- well, typically the funny ones are the fake pictures that people create. Like to one where Naruto rasengan Nagato and Naruto's head was missing and it his hand looked like puddy. Or that one spoiler when in the previous chapter Madara was talking to Sasuke and he was going to take his mask off and when the spoiler came back lol it was a older Obito. Lol or that one when it showed Kakashi and Naruto with surprised faces saying master and the 4th, and then it showed minato in a Askataki (sp?) robe. lol

"The plot thickings!" Next chapter: "Back to that time..."

I don't second that. Granted I'm here a lot, but not enough to keep spoilers up to date.
Bean, TDA, Nat trio.

It sucks when I keep getting blackberry emails for fakes, duplicate posts, or int translations. I cant even use the email alert until a new system is solidified.

Have all Fakes gathered into a fake post. while they are fake they are sometime amusing to read. Have all translation sent to mods and have them posted in one post. So we dont see that there is a new post to only find out its an alternate trans.

is it so hard to create a "Confirmed Spoiler pics and Summaries" where only mods can put stuff into?

that would be good.

Jodi, that idea isn't bad. A trashy speed thread for the quick fix and a organized and moderated thread for only confirmed stuff? The only problem I see here is that such a thread requires a mod to be around period for quickly moderating confirmed spoiler which simply isn't possible. Most of our staff is working fulltime IRL and/or having family, so we can't guarantee a gapless monitoring and for 2-3 updates per day, it's not worth the extra trouble, I think. Hm... but we will discuss this suggestion in any case.

People, please understand that all mods have a busy real life too, so any suggestions that involve frequent monitoring and instant-edits (YA NEED TO MOVE THIS IN THE VERY SECOND WHEN IT GOT POSTED!!!!!11) are doomed to be rejected. We try to stay away from as much additional work load as possible while providing still everything you want in time which isn't easy. This only works with a kind of compromise that allows us to have time gaps betwen mod actions. The Naruto section is pretty busy after all.

As for why we don't delete post of people who posted spoilers and spoiler translations: those are as much contributions as fanarts, raws, scans and full trans as well. We don't want to take away the possibility to thank those people.

If the mods can't find spoilers than I don't know why they are mods.
Eh? Sorry, but do you misunderstand a little what moderators are?

Granted few of the staff are active on 2ch and able to catch spoilers but that is clearly not our responsibility. Rather you can see us as the organization team that provides and maintains the technical and social structures of this community but the contents are coming from the members (which mods are as well) alone. This is not the job of our staff.

I think any sistem you use it need an active moderation the days we're geting the spoilers, so you can take inmediate actions against useless posts or anything.

And I think the fist page showing a summary is a good idea, but must be actualized "just in time" to be really useful to people who likes the hot info : D

And well, I chek a lot of times the spoiler section, and more even if it's a spoiler I like or I'm interested in : )

I love the new system, keep things organized. But do leave the original post in the thread to give the posters some credit for their work. Keep up the good work

I won't be able to follow up on this or reply to any replies to this but I want to say one thing.

Don't take away the ability for members to submit spoilers and don't delete their threads. Simply put, the reason is for the "thanks", the recognition for submitting spoilers. It is a bit (probably very) vain reason, but it is important because the "thanks" system gives people incentives to scour the net and refresh websites to quickly post them on MH. Incentives are important, do not forget this.

The new system seems ok but maybe it might be better to have a spoiler submission thread and a stickied thread for confirmed spoilers and pics(or pending), this way all the fake spoilers and real spoilers might be mixed on the submission thread so the mods can look through like they do now but for ease of use for the rest of us we can check the other thread that is sorted through (and only the mods can change that thread).

The following problems are:

  • Constant posting of international translations
  • Repeated posting of spoilers
  • People posting fake spoilers for the sake of it.

If someone wants to post an international trans, why don't they PM it to a mod, who then puts it in the 1st post, which prevents constant posting of the intl.trans which cause people to check the thread for new stuff only to find it is a new trans.

The other two problems just come down to common sense I guess. :oh

Re: Naruto 445 Spoiler Discussion Thread

The new system isn't bad. Though will there be another thread for international translations? Also will the posts be deleted after they are transferred to the first post?
I'd say have a separate thread for translations or international translations! this one makes the most sense

If the problems are fake spoilers and repeat posting, then create a system where users can regulate the offenders. E.g., if 100 (or some other arbitrary number) people thumb-downed your post, it gets deleted (all thanks taken away) and you get a strike. After three strikes, you can't post spoilers anymore for N chapters.

I know this would take some programming to do but everybody seems to be a smart bunch here.

All in all, I think the current system is fine. Yes, the fake, repeats, and international translations get annoying, but come on, it doesn't take that much to blow pass them. What shouldn't happen is taking away the normal user (the nobody) ability to post spoilers. This is what make this site unique among sites like onemanga, narutofan, etc.

Oh, "thanks" are important. You don't get anything for it, but I know that whenever I got a "thanks," it does feel goof for a millisecond.

Hi, thanks for the hard work and all, I'd like to help by naming the important stuff, maybe this will help you find a suitable solution :
you want to have :
  • confirmed/pending/fake status--obviously important
  • "Thanks" option--in order to encourage spoiler hunters
  • spoilers regrouped as much as possible

In my opinion, mods are here to moderate the threads and manage them as much as possible, they're not here to hunt for spoilers or answer and check hundreds of PMs. Spoiler threads should stay open for normal members and it's no big deal if some spoilers are fake as long as they're tagged 'fake'.

It seems as if fans have become very arrogant, not only do they demand spoilers way before publishing time but they even want them 'fake free'. For god sake they're spoilers, even when they're confirmed, they'll never be as thrilling as the real thing, plus the best they can do is really spoil the fun.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm the first one to check the spoilers thread but I don't get angry every time I see a fake. On the contrary, I find it funny and some times even interesting enough to start an interesting discussion. (I'm no fake spoilers poster, check my post history)

To get back to the subject, the way the spoiler thread is right now, it's a little bit confusing, I think it's a good idea to combine all the spoilers, but I'd suggest to erase the original post content and write in it a title referring to the spoiler posted e.g.: spoiler picture 1 or german translation for script 2.
This will make the thread less confusing, while keeping the original post for the "thanks" option. Plus fans and readers will still be able to trace the spoiler back to the spoiler hunter's original post using the title. Obviously the spoiler title in the first post and the title left in the spoiler hunter's post, should match.
This still comes down to more work for you mod buddy but good luck and thanks again for all the hard work.

I agree with you Nadim, but if you see the spoiler in a mods post you would not go to track the hunter just to thank him.

Some people want a fast fix, this way the hunter's work would go unnoticed. It's a confusing dilemma, but what llmcduff suggested is very plausible if it can be programmed without much trouble to technicians. If not, then we'll keep thinking about a solution. :)

Really, I loved this idea. A clean and organized spoilers thread with confirmed material only looks awesome.

But then...what to do with the spoilers discussion thread? Does anyone here want to discuss fakes until the "official" thread opens? I think it's a waste of time, but I want to hear you.

I'd say have a separate thread for translations or international translations! this one makes the most sense
The idea of a separated spoilers thread for international translations was discussed between us lots of times. We never tried it for a single reason: We have way too many sticky threads already, and creating another one that would be totally dependant of the original thread would cause unnecessary trouble. It's way easier for us to quote the intl. translation into the original post than to keep checking 2 threads to edit, organize and link posts.

Also, this would solve only one problem...but the fakes would still be there, annoying some when "bumping" the thread. In my opinion, fakes are way much more annoying than intl. translations. At least the translations are helping someone (you can see that by the number of "thanks" those posts receive), fakes are just spreading nonsense.

Well, two threads, one for spoiler submission and other for the true spoiler seems reasonable. This way, people would post every kind of spoiler into the first thread, and in the second thread, only the true ones would be posted. The only problem I see with it is that the thread can take a while to be updated, if there aren't any mods available. This way, all the thanks still would remain, but with some advantages.

-People that are eager to see any kind of spoilers and doesn't care about fakes, etc: they could check the submission thread to see if any spoiler was posted.

-People that only want to know about confirmed pics and spoilers: you can check the confirmed spoiler thread, this way, you wouldn't waste your time with fakes :)

About the international translations, they would be posted in the submission thread, and after confirmed, we'd move them to the confirmed spoiler thread.

So, users would post normally in the submission spoiler threads.

And about the submission spoiler thread, even if any kind of spoiler will be posted there, I believe some standards would suit good, just for the sake of organizing.

[agrias]You're my twin, you just don't know it. 4 minutes difference this time. xD[/agrias]

Hmm there is going to be time lag. We get real spoilers on Tuesday which are only given confirmed status after the pics are posted which happens on Wednesday, so you have a one day lag at least. Though people like Dofla would know the NJA spoiler to be real.

[agrias]If Dofla or any other confiable source confirms, it would be moved into the "official" thread no matter what, even without pics. If we're not so sure, we'd have to wait. [/agrias]

I don't know....This system sounds more trouble than necessary; granted it is much simpler once the spoiler is confirmed....but I honestly don't think it is fair to complicate things like that

About the discussions, like Agrias said, we have two situations:

1 - To discuss the contents of the two spoiler threads in just one thread. While this option seems to be simple one, we'd mix the content of two threads, and there are some people which doesn't like to discuss fakes, and wait for the confirmed spoilers

2 - One thread for each section. Things would get more organized, but some posts would be redundanct, as they would be discussed twice.

This is just a simple example. Both of the options have their prós and cons, but I think you got the idea :)

the only issue here is having another stickied thread. It'll be the same editing, maybe even less than if it were just one thread. The only problem is something that would happen regardless if it were two or one thread and that is that people won't post the right thing in the right place.
