I have never posted on this forum before, and depending on the reactions to this post i might not ever post again. I have just read and enjoyed other peoples thoughts on the manga (through this site) for a while, and since I always have to wait for people to put up a review, i figured I might as well do my own.
Now for the review.
Untill i find a better way to put images in my post, I'll just put image links to these mad-size manga pages:
The level of epic in the Raikage vs Sasuke was already pretty good before this chapter. Now another player enters the ring. None other than Gaara, Sasuke's emo-friend from the chunin exams. I thought it was hard enough already to decide who had the upper hand, but when Gaara enters and supposedly "saves" Raikage from further injury, what does that imply? Amaterasu > Raikage? Gaara > Raikage? Or just that Raikage is going mental?
As several before me have pointed out, the samurai appears to be nothing but ninja fodder. I don't know if Kishi wanted to point out something about how awesome ninja are, or just needed some less innocent-looking bystanders to get caught in the crossfire. Either way I don't think we will see them turn the tide in this battle.
Raikage cuts of of his arm? I shouldn't be surprised, as it was quite clear that it was "lost", but it he seems so calm, so maybe he has some sort of back-up plan? Maybe he can use the right arm of his beloved brother to unlock the "Eternal oversized left arm" kekkei genkai? Or maybe his doctor was Kakuzu, and Raikage didn't know he was killed?
Nah probably this is just to show how badass/pissed Raikage really is. This reminds me of good ol' Deidara. What Deidara and Raikage has in common, is that they don't whine about losing limps. They should be rolemodels for amputees.
Gaara and Sasuke talk some emo, but right before things start to get serious, we cut to this page:
Even though Karin is weak enough as it is, it now appears that her "special gift" and "unique abilities" are handed out at the ninja academy. This makes sense. I mean the ninja thing is all about decieving + avoid getting decieved, so when making these kage-teams, it would be natural to put someone in it to take care of the second part of that. What doesn't make sense is why Karin is sent to find Danzo. The only reasonable explanation (besides Sasuke being stupid), is that Sasuke knows that Danzo is gonna try to run. Maybe Sasuke realized just how frikin powerful susanoo was, even before we see him use it.
Kankuro's pubzor is bothering me a lot. It definitely has a human-like face, which sorta implies that he learned something. Either he is using one of chiyos puppets, or maybe even one of sasori's. Of course we also have to consider it being Sasori himself .The last option has a "Obiti-is-Tobi"-feel to it. On one side, it's ridiculous. Sasori was not a strong ninja because he was a strong pubzzle, he was a strong ninja because he used puppies very well. However Kankuro already followed in Sasoris footstep by using some of his older muppets. Wouldn't Sasori himself be the natural addition to the set? We will probably learn more very soon, so there is no need for me to keep wondering about this.
Summary:
The sand ninja in action again, good to see them working. The hokage summit was bound to become a huge kage-level all-out brawl. Sasuke seems to get stronger and stronger as the enemies pile up. As the last previous few episodes this has been mainly introduction -> fight. It is nice that things are happening, but I just have the feeling that Taka vs team Raikage had more potential. Hopefully the next few episodes will stir it up a bit, instead of just being all on Sasuke.
Predictions:
With the kage summit, naruto/kakashi/yamato AND the konoha youngsters all in motion, it is impossible to tell what Kishi wants to show us next week. What anoys me is that the character that has been the focus of my atention ever since Naruto vs Pein, is nowhere near the summit. Well one half of him at least.
I hope you liked it. If not please let me know. If you think I got something wrong during the review, please let me know. If you think you can do it better, you probably can, and should.
