It's that time of the week, folks! Time for reading naruto reviews. May I recommend, if you feel you have the time for it, that you also read the actual naruto manga chapters this one time a week. It's not as great as, say, my reviews, but it may help you understand some of the stuff I'm talking about. Here we go:
2 weeks ago I commented on that singing instructor, saying he and his bear-thingy probably wouldn't go and make the big difference in this fight. I'm gonna stick with that prediction even though the bear-thingy turned out to be a big monster bear-thingy.
What is it? A bear? A racoon? A nin-dog? And will any of us remember it's name, Ponta? NO! I'm gonna make a solution to that problem by renaming it. And I'm gonna call it what all bear-racoon-dog hybrids ought to be called: Pope Rocketfist III.
Alright back to the chapter. Pope Rocketfist III jumps at Kisame and slashes out for him with his holy paws of rocket-propelled fury. I think this whole thing is just gonna serve as a simple test of Kisame's strength. Killer Bee is just gonna sit back for a while and see how Kisame handles Pope Rocketfist III's divine apollo-style attack. And then the real fight will begin.
Note: I may very well be wrong about this. There may be enough rocketfuel in this catholic monster to make it act like a Gamabunta or Genma.
But to mine and many other's disappointment, the fight cuts off after the first page. Actually this chapter covers a wide range.
So, what happened to Danzo and that byakugan-guy (Ao)? Well finally we get some info on them. They we're all attacked by zetsu-clones as well (I remember someone predicting that), and fought them without much problems it seems. Team Hokage has been out placing some booby-traps, and I must say, that is some boobytrap:
Ao versus team Hokage seems a bit unfair for a fight. I think something is gonna happen, probably team Hokage running into someone (team "everybody-else-from-Konoha"). But this trap looks pretty interesting. According to my skills in japanese (none whatsoever) "Shinten kugutsu juin no jutsu" roughly translates to "Makes you see what spooky trap sees". "... jutsu". To a guy with a byakugan, that is some mean jutsu. My fellow reviewer CVB3 translates the kanji on the earrings to "to hear", and cleverly notes that this will probably have some significance.
At the kage meeting Raikage is pointed out as leader. They obviously want the best qualified, but also one they can all trust. Raikage had already been ordering them around a bit, and since he already put all his cards on the table, he seems reasonably trustworthy.
The only one not completely buying it is tsuchikage. He is old, he doesn't like the idea of handing over any power to foreign villages, and he is also a mean old fart. But in the long series of logic reasoning going on at the kage summit, his final decision fits in perfectly:
Note: Tsuchikage fought Madara before. First they just appear as cynical weirdos, next thing you know, they sprout tentacles. Watch out for this one guys.
Finally we get to the part that named this chapter "Sakura's confession":
I don't like this. Why is this set up so theatrically?
They are standing in a circle around those two, and acting like something big happened. She said she liked Naruto. Did anyone expect her to not like him? Kishi introduced this triangle of teenage-crushes very early and it has since evolved a lot. Sasuke's indifference to Sakura has been made so obvious that it is a mystery why Sakura ever cared about him. Naruto's goofy attitude towards Sakura and Sakura's violent responses have long since been replaced by a feeling of mutual trust and friendship.
If she had said something like this during part 1 it would have been noticeable, but at this point, it can hardly come to anyone's surprise. All those "what happened to you Sakura?"-remarks seem really stupid to me. What happened to her? Read chapter 3-460.
The next few pages go on in same style. In my honest opinion just recaps of what happened between them. Sakura is obviously just trying to do the right thing. Trying to make the whole Sasuke situation a lot simpler for Naruto.
It ends on a whole different note though. Naruto sees through her attempts to remove some of the burden he is carrying, looks her straight in the eyes, and says something that I really didn't see coming:
Look at their eyes. Look at their expressions. A really nice pic.
I'm very mixed about this last comment by Naruto though. He obviously expresses some of that insight we have been seeing from him lately (mostly in combat). It implies that Sakura still loves Sasuke, and for no apparent reason still wants him "back". A complex idea on its own, but also a very beautyfull message. I'm just not sure what it means that Naruto realizes this. Actually Naruto encourages her to pursue her love interest in Sasuke. Either that says something about Naruto's character, or it says something about how surreal that whole teenage love-triangle really is.
I'm not gonna pretend that my thoughts on this are objective in any way. I see this one way, and hopefully some of you see it in a different way. Make up your minds. What do you think about Naruto/Sakura/Sasuke situation? Thoughts different from mine are very welcome.
Rating of this weeks chapter: 4/10.
Yup, I'm gonna give it 4. I should remind you that I promised to be tough on the ratings, and this week I'm gonna let off some steam.
Not 0: The plot is moved forward, not as much as one could hope, but on a lot of different fronts. This chapter spend a lot of time on a lot of things that I personally didn't enjoy reading as much as I usually enjoy reading Naruto, but 3 for pages 1-16 and +1 for that last picture. A gem in my opinion.
Not 5: That whole Naruto/Sakura talk seemed misplaced and "staged" in a way.
