Incidentally, I went to see this movie yesterday. It was pretty good.
Reviews!
Time:
The best Hollywood movies always knew how to sneak a beguiling subtext into a crowd-pleasing story. Superman Returns is in that grand tradition. That's why it's beyond Super. It's superb.

Newsweek:
Next to Singer's champagne, most recent superhero adventure movies are barely sparkling cider.

Hollywood Reporter:
This high-wire act would have gone for naught if Routh had not so capably filled the Man of Steel's costume. Like Reeve, he is just right physically, looking at times like the old comic book drawings of Superman. There is honesty in his acting where the emotions that play across Superman/Clark Kent's face and body come from deep within.

It's not a hideous piece of crap. It really is about a step behind X-Men: The Last Stand, equally poorly directed, equally missing complexity, equally not up to the standards of the first two films, but with less interesting characters and absolutely zero sense of humor about itself.

Latino Review:
If you have any misgivings about the castings, as I've already mentioned, Brandon and Kevin are unbelievably good so count on many chills going up and down your spine. Watching them is like watching the comic come to life.
Boston Herald:
Singer & Co. can be content knowing theyve managed not only to resurrect an American icon but done it with smarts, grace and even poetry. Its going to be hard for any superhero movie to beat the magisterial bearing Singer so emphatically summons as in one memorable shot Superman is seen suspended in space, his dusty-colored cape twirling, an ancient god come from the heavens.
IESB:
Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird it's a plane no, wait, it's Bryan Singer walking on air because Superman Returns is brilliant! In his crowning achievement, Singer has brought the iconic superhero back to the big screen in a very big way.

Those are 'outside' reviews. What about us geeks?
Blue Tights:
Bryan Singer has delivered a Superman film that sets a strong foundation for the future of the character. This isn't really just another Superman film. This is a strong character film that is about Superman... about a God finding his place among mortals. It's a Superman that knows when to have fun, and when to take itself seriously, and hits all the right notes along the way.
Superman Homepage:
This movie is far greater than I could have ever anticipated, and I went in with extremely high expectations.
CBR:
I can say with total confidence that it was everything a comics fan - and movie fan - could hope for.

I've had low expectations for this Superman movie for a long time, but Bryan Singer saved it. I still wish Singer had stayed with X-Men, though, definitely after seeing the great work he did here. But ah well.
